Not sure if this was true or not, but I had heard somewhere that as Clinton was vacating the White House for Dubya's arrival a bunch of his staffers went around and took the "W" keys off the keyboards. That shit just cracks me up, I just hope it really happened! Edited to add: This is just about the joke, please no diatribes that will get the thread knocked over to speaker's corner. Hardly legal speak here, but I have had two somewhat similar situations where I had a problem with a company and they were unwilling to budge. Both times I sent letters to the BBB and to the Attorney General both of my state and of the state that the company was headquartered in, copying the president of the company as well as my primary contact. In both cases, within a day or two of my receiving a copy of a letter sent from the AG's office to the company I received a phone call letting me know that they were going to do what I had requested. During both instances I received a letter back from the AG's office stating that they had contacted the company and that they company said that there was not a problem and that the issue had been settled. If I disagreed I was to write back to them. Long story short, I don't think most companies want to get mixed up in that kind of stuff, regardless of what kind of leg you really had to stand on. In one of the cases I believe it was the copy of the letter to the president of the company, complaining about awful customer service that I had received over the last 7 months, that really did it. Anyway, just my $.02 for what it's worth. At least if they continue to fight it there is someone in the middle rather than it just being a pissing contest. Killing threads since 2004.

Just got home from celebrating my brother's birthday. Part of his happy birthday toast was actually a toast to everyone else sharing such a special day today!

Zero. Woo hoo! Guess I'll be sticking with that leftover beef and bean casserole I brought for lunch. At least I have a Rice Krispie treat to go with it! Killing threads since 2004.

Mmmm...I'd take any one of those right now. More of a late breakfast than lunch, but I'm cool with that. Have been hard up for a good deli sandwich since I left NYC. Of course, their store locator isn't working!!! If you go, see if they have a list of locations. What are the chances there is one in Atlanta? Killing threads since 2004.

Cool that it worked out for you. Knowing someone that got $600 from insurance for a $3,500 kayak and $2,000 worth of gear I'm always a little hypersensitive wondering what is really covered. I'd have to stop harrassing him if something like that ever happened to me! Thanks! Killing threads since 2004.

I have a great boat policy, not specifically inland marine though. I have relatives that love to fish and do open ocean charters, so I made sure it would cover me taking my kayak along to paddle while they fish. (though it would still probably be considered coastal and not open water). Ok...don't want to hijack my own thread! Killing threads since 2004.

Got my GMail here, and now I've got a GMail invite if someone would like it. PM me with first name, last name and email address. I just have one at the moment, but will post if I have more. Going to bed now, so don't wait up for the response. I'll send the invite in the morning. Killing threads since 2004.

I'm just curious what type of insurance do people carry on their gear. If you have insurance, what is the coverage like? Just theft, etc., or will it get you a new canopy if yours is destroyed following a cutaway? I can't yet relate to skydiving, but in regard to kayaking I've known a number of people that just assumed that their kayak and gear was covered under homeowners/renters policies. I checked mine, and while it is true that it is covered, the policy limited compensation to something like $500 - which would pretty much cover the cost of my paddle. In the case of my boat policy it also contains liability insurance (in case I run a ferry off the river, or someone were to be injured while I was leading a trip). I asked this question a few years ago on my kayak forum and found that about 60% of the people had never even thought about it, and of those that had thought about it most assumed it was completely covered by homeowners. The majority of those people found out they were wrong. So, how goes it in the world of skydiving? Edited to add: I'm not actually looking for insurance, just curious about what others have - I don't have any gear now and won't have any for a while . jason. Killing threads since 2004.

Yeah, yeah, you got me! I actually go back and forth. I'm really not a big fan of "drivetime" radio but my iPod died (really I just lost the charger and am too broke to go buy a new one right now) so alas, drivetime it is. I alternate between a few different stations because I can't bare to listen to the same station two days in a row. Today it was good ole' Steve and Vicky. Killing threads since 2004.

My disgust is more with the woman than the announcers. Can't really tell, but it really sounded like she called in wanting to do this rather than having been talked into it. Even if she was talked into it, I guess in the long run it is their job to get stuff on the air that people will tune in to, and I bet you that there will be plenty of people tuning in tomorrow to hear the update. I would love to see the guy give her some walking papers, not because of lying, but because of how she dealt with it. In her defense I think she thought the guy would take it a bit lighter, but the dude was totally destroyed on live radio. Ugh. Killing threads since 2004.

Driving to work this morning listening to the radio (Star 94, 94.1 in Atlanta). A woman calls in asking for advice, says her 28 yr old boyfriend proposed to her, his "26 yr old" girlfriend over the weekend. She said she had to think about it. Why? The thing is, she's lied to him for the last year. She's really 38. I didn't think much of it, just asking for advice, right? Next thing I know she is on the air and they are calling the guy up so that she can tell him she wants to marry him, but that she has to tell him something. She tells him and the guy is totally devastated! Ok, so she probably should have told him a while ago, but whatever, people screw up. But getting him on the phone live to break the guy's heart? WTF?!?!? I'm not really commenting on the lie, like I said, people screw up, whatever, but I thought it was downright disgusting of her to bring the poor guy on the radio to tell him! Kind of strange, but I usually notice a persons neck first, especially if hair is pulled back in a pony tail.

I feel your pain. I have 3 siblings that are all percussionists/drummers. It's faded a bit now as they have grown but for years and years and years they never went anywhere without their drumsticks! There was a point that my mom bought thin rubber padding and lined countertops, etc. with it because she was sick of seeing drum stick marks everyhere!!! Funny though, because after so many years of that I could have someone drumming on the back of my seat and I probably wouldn't even notice. Maybe you should start making some sort of obnoxious gulping/swallowing sound, and when they complain start drumming on your own desk! Killing threads since 2004.

Has anyone else ever rewound and watched some of those scenes more than once (or twice, or three times...) to try and catch everything Williams/The Genie says? There is some funny stuff in there that easily slips by. Killing threads since 2004.

"Dude, Ariel's HOT!" Name that movie. Can't say I know that one. I can say though, that I finally just got the tune out of my head that I've been humming for the last week.

When I used to live in NJ and commute out to Queens, NY (no, I don't know what I was thinking) I would transfer through the Port Authority every day, and every single morning there was a guy with a keyboard singing gospel songs in the LONG tunnel between the bus station and the subway station. That is a dank, nasty walk any time of day. Add wall to wall people and it is just plain disgusting, but I'll be damned if every single morning I walked through there and for a stretch of about 10 ft, as they passed the keyboard guy, almost everyone had a smile. I hadn't thought about him in a while, until I was sitting in Atlanta rush hour traffic this morning (which in only my second week of doing so I've already decided is one of the most obnoxious things a person can have to put up with) and thought of him and smiled.

Well, I guess it's the Dawgs for me too. When I moved away from GA 10 years ago nobody in my family gave a damn about college sports. Now I'm back, 3 siblings have done the UGA thing (two alum, one still there) and my parent's house is a freakin' shrine to UGA. So, in the interest of familial bonding... HOW 'BOUT THEM DAWGS!!! jason. Killing threads since 2004.

Wow, I had forgotten all about it until I read your post, but when I was 8 or 9 my brother and I found an injured frog near our house. We kept it as a pet while it was healing and then we decided it was time to let him go again. Sadly the day before we were going to let him go we accidently forgot to move it from the garage to the backyard like we did every day. We went to feed it that night and it had been in the direct sunlight behind the garage window all day and had actually baked. We were destroyed, but if I remember correctly Mom got us through that hard moment by helping us build a popsicle stick coffin to bury the little guy in the backyard followed by Blizzards from Dairy Queen. I mean, a Blizzard (specifically one with M&M's and Butterfinger) can fix just about any 9 year old's problem, right? jason. Killing threads since 2004.
