you can say whatever you want on sonicbeef.com without fear of banning, because no one cares. unless of course you insult me, because i'm pretty sensitive. in fact, the only person i know of to ever get banned is leroy.
-
i would disagree in my case. most of the guys i jump with are either... married, engaged or in a serious relationship and couldn't give two shitz about some chick they saw at a dz begging to go BASE. not that they would see her anyway, because they're probably not even at the dz. better odds to just be a kool mutha' fucka' and someone others want to have around. not that i'm that "Kool", but i never GC'd to get my first jump.
-
uh, what? is that some kind of april fools joke?
-
i totally agree! i definitely would not jump a nice BASE canopy just to cut it away... that's what rounds are for! just talking the setup in general.
-
you just misunderstood me Faber... not saying you'd be more likely to have a mal on a BASE canopy... just morelikely on any canopy throwing it out from a trash bag. the reason i would choose to do it like that... my 280ft canopy will not fit in my 120ft sized d-bag/container. and why the hell should i buy a whole 'nother rig just for that?
-
oh man! that is brilliant. i mean, who doesn't carry an extra battery around with them everywhere? what better way to put it to good use. i wish i had pictures of the pants i was wearing when after working on my car's battery cables i had wiped my hands on them... they came out of the wash with a some significant holes... ooops! so his rig should be fine as long as it doesn't get wet, right?
-
ha! i got a quick preview of that back in feb.. it's much cooler on it's owner! very cute!! ... and he said, check it out! the shrivel flap really shrivels! tree, now the lavender makes more sense.

Slider Stow for a Mirage? Need Advice/Help
blitzkrieg replied to porterhouse's topic in Gear and Rigging
it is way too easy to make a velcro patch with some light webbing to loop around your reserve flap. i've made tons of them and give them to people all the time. it's easier and faster than messing around with that damn ball and rubber band.. if you can't make one, ask your rigger. not to say that it's impossilbe... but if you're really going to take the time to velcro down your slider before you decide to cutaway... you might have time to unfasten the velcro if you feel it's necessary. -
i only wear camo pants because i got tons of them for free from my uncle. so when i fall down and rip them i don't feel so bad. thanks for the paycheck!

damn straight. quality entertainment. thanks for the laughs...

since BASE is unregulated and there are no guidelines set forth for structured learning... you will probably never quantify anything construed as the proper "qualifications" for any "student". more importantly, i think it is the students responsibilty to understand that... and to have trust and competence in him or herself to take the appropriate action to learn and understand as much as possible about the sport before putting trust into one persons words and actions. their mentor may not intentionally steer them wrong or put them in harms way... but then again, they might. it all depends on who's watching.
-
right on. the spoken word is often more understandable than the written.

first off, it was a joke... a cynical joke, but a joke none-the-less. i may be mistaken, as i have been many times in the past, but i was under the impression that most FJCs ask or at least sincerely request that you have a mentor in your local area. regardless, the way his original post came across... it sure looked like he was just asking for people to come along... if he just doesn't know of any locals, it may have been better phrased to ask if there were any around to show HIM around. just my first thought. don't be offended. i'm not too good on the internet. btw, my words are sincere... be safe.
-
hey a new mentor! i'm sure there are lots of people at the local DZ that think BASE is kool and would love to come learn a thing or two!! congrats on surviving the perrine. be safe.

during my worst trip to the emergency room (suffering breaks in 2 vertabrae, 6 ribs, shoulder blade, and a collapsed lung) i was in the hospital for only one week (no surgeries required) and my bill came to a mere $28,000. i had no insurance and was unemployed. so, i wrote a bunch of letters along with a $20 check to anyone i owed stating my situation and that this was all i could afford for now... blah blah blah... fortunately for me, in the end everything but about $2200 was written off. and i don't mean like a credit card charge off. clear and free. that still ended up being less than the premium i had payed for the year prior's health insurance. just something to think about.

i do think i pack "correctly". i do think that a parachute will do what IT wants. i do think you can influence it. i do think winds will influence it more. i don't pack meticulously. i don't use clamps. i don't micro-reef. i don't use condoms. flat and stable is where it's at. i jumped off some shit with a parachute on my back, some people told me that was pretty cool. i thought it was awesome. my 2nd and 3rd jumps were off a 2000ft A. i have no BASE related injuries or wire strikes, yet. oh, sorry... i thought this was the resume' page.

oh, i'm also making a video. anyone who is around me when i have my camera on and recording will be in it. hope you like it.

not that anyone cares what i think, but since tools were mentioned, i know a few of them so i figured i'd restate my opinion again. i wholeheartedly agree with jason. i think packing clamps are a great idea, especially if they actually work for you, and they're harder to miss in a packjob. for me, i don't feel packing is technical enough to require it. you can have the perfect packjob and still get a 180 and end up in an office window. i speculate that body position and wind will have a much higher persuasion on heading performance. but if clamps help you pack, then again, that is great. i've done some absolutely horrible looking packjobs that have actually scared people to death, and they opened on heading, but that really doesn't mean anything. i guess what i'm trying to say is, even the count your tools rule would lose me, and it would be a serious hassle for me to remember how many and where i put them while trying to remain unseen in the dark. plus, i'm too stubborn to alter between different packing methods. ok, just ignore all of this. avenfoto, are you trying to bamboozle us with that second crap? i don't know what that means??

that's my excuse. very true. i think there's a song about that. ~E
-
yah, i had read that on the uk site last night as well. wasn't sure if it was true, but that's just bad news. i'd imagine it would be tough to leave a clamp in a pack job without noticing it, but never-the-less, i personally refuse to use anything while packing that doesn't belong on there on deployment. maybe i'm just paranoid.

26, some asshole threw me off a freestander... early summer '04. but before that, i did a low jump that left me with 2 broken vertabrae, 6 broken ribs, a broken scapula, and a collapsed lung. of course, that was without a parachute and was only about 35ft. the ground rush was intense. hence my love.
-
if some asshole comes up to me and throws the "N" word in my face with the combination of the word die... i'm gonna pistol whip him until he begs for his life. then when the cops come... i jump.

the newer RWS risers IMO are absolutely the best risers out there. but i've never had any issues with Sunpath's velcroless risers either. i love the hard housing in the RWS risers as well, but some people do not like them because they are slightly more bulky.
