haha, ok. i thought i might have been having a special moment there for a min... that seems like a reasonable route. thanks.

Miami, that's a nice lookin' rig... i must have missed something though... where does that strap go when there's no still? why aren't there companies making D-boxes for stills? ultimately, i think that is the way i'd like to go and will probably just build one myself. thanks to everyone for their input...

it always seemed to me to be a good idea to have an extra strap over your still camera for extra security... i.e. not trusting your camera's life on the tripod mount screw... but, i haven't actually seen more than a few people who have this. so my question is, who is using extra precautions and how are they attached? how do they "clean up" when your still is not attached? thanks!

if only the whole world was more like Sweden...

you're going to jail! CRIMINAL!!!

neither. but that's why i jump two of the best/softest opening canopies in production. i also occasionally double stow if it is necessary to achieve the correct amount of tension. rubber bands break and i'm definitely not worried about a bag lock. in fact i believe (possibley naive) that it is impossible from the combination of a rubber band and HMA lines alone.

see, now that was actually some useful information, because it relates to people! when was the last time anybody saw a tennis ball and a shotput huckin' a 2-way?

when did this become a physics forum? 8-12 seconds. the end.

really great stuff. a new definition to the word inspirational.

...i will be there... in less than 60days.

wow! if the world was full of people like that, i would be a god! with all that is mainstream, i predict some dark days in our future.

you never can tell... but, you are right about the "sheep". unfortunate, really.

as much as i disagree with their "opinion", i have to disagree. newspapers are printed for one reason and one reason only... to MAKE MONEY. forget all that BS about spreading "news" and informing their "people". furthermore, an editor's page or opinion page is designed to stir up shit. more pissed off people fuel more readers and more money. unless the paper is biased, or your letter is out of line, they should print it as well. i look forward to yours and those like it .

happy? yes. satisfied? never. the pay sites (BD) are great, but the free ones are truly priceless.
-
on that note... i was curious as to whether or not a majority came to a conclusion if it was a bad idea to do that all the time (aside from water jumps, of course)??? it seems to me that it would be a safer alternative to non-3ring risers... ???
-
i will.

just cut the female end off of an old extension cord leaving about 4-6" of wire. trim the ends back about 3/4" and then just stick them in the outlet. it will work everywhere, even the US.

Brutally Hard Openings - Need Advice!!!
blitzkrieg replied to freeasabird's topic in Gear and Rigging
IMO, i don't believe it's your stows whatsoever. i've put hundreds of jumps on a ST120 and i always propacked it and would leave the nose where it hangs... i.e. not push it in and def not pull it out. than about 4 rolls or folds in the tail to keep it together. that's it. never had more than a couple brisk openings on it. more over, i agree with 935... i ditched PD for alternatively much softer and consistent openings. if i was sponsored, it would be one thing... but as it stands, i like my neck functional! -
thus far, Jason has foresaken me concerning my email about group assignment. i thought i was the 9th or 10th person to get a ticket, but with the server crash, i may have gotten bumped somehow. either way, it really depends on how much i drink the night before. hell, who needs a pass to jump off a public bridge anyway? p.s. screw the jump, it's all about the party.

if i understand you correctly... i think all Precision sport canopies (with HMA lines of course) are non-cascading. that is how the Xaos line is, and i quite prefer it. i think it would just be way to bulky for the big heavy lines on a BASE canopy though... although, i'm no engineer.

just because i'm bored i felt i'd add my worthless half a cent. being a TM, i already fear for my student's life and take great care in ensuring their safety. second to that is my own, as i feel every student strapped to me is essentially attempting to kill me. add a cameraman, don't get butt hurt when i tell you to F off if i feel you are unsafe or inexperienced. i could care less who the DZO is, or the camera flyer. it's MY call as the TM. i'd much prefer a handcam to a close call. so if TMs are allowing jarret to film them, that is their problem, not mine. i believe it is up to the most experienced person on the jump to decide what is and what is not going to happen in the plan. personally, i think newer jumpers aspiring to be tandem videographers are just lame. have you ever watched a tandem video? bleh!

magot is right. i don't even use a helmet to shoot video. i just bolt the camera directly to my skull.

i've been quite pleased with my S6. it's usually pretty accurate, but no guarantees. the log is kool to look at later, but essentially useless for jumping due to the slow interval. more than anything, it's a great watch all around. especially at half price.
