  1. It is not a reflection on our public school system...The reason we were not taught about Canada invading the US is that it never happened.
  2. Best?? All of it, sitting by the door on the ride up, the perfect exit, playing in the air, the contrast of the violence of freefall and the serenity of canopy flight... Worst?? Monday morning, knowing you can't jump til Saturday!! Blue skies, Anne
  3. When the hell did CANADA invade the US???
  4. I happen to have a taste for Bud light. My father installed a tap in our house when I was six. He had to put a stool in front of it so I could reach the handle and get a beer for him. Of course, I had to suck the suds if I didn't pull a good beer. I have been drinking Bud light for 23 years now. SCARY!! I prefer beer that you don't have to chew. Blue skies, Anne
  5. I have always had freefall dreams- I usually wake up from the sheer adrenaline of it. LATELY, however, I have started having dreams where something goes wrong and I do the wrong thing to fix it. One of them I was tracking away from a guy and he kept following me. I kept checking on him, tracking again, checking again, getting lower and lower. WHY DIDN'T I JUST PULL??? Last night I dreamt that I had a mal and I pulled the reserve before I cutaway and it all entangled. IT really freaks me out that my emergency procedures are incorrect in my dreams!!! Blue skies, Anne
  6. Mine happen to be: 1. Brandy sour 2. Good bottle of Shiraz or Merlot 3. and of course, I'm a skydiver so....BEER! What to you drink???
  7. i biff in at 0.8, 1.0, 1.1. I don't hurt myself, the ground just always surprises me. As soon as my feet touch, I just cave and plf. The main I just bought will be loaded at 1.05:1. Anything bigger than that and I am not comfortable jumping with much wind- I end up going backwards!! Blue skies, Anne
  8. Pammi, I am right there with you. I have 73 jumps and still rarely land on my feet. I have determined (thru video) that I am flaring at the right time. People have told me that I just sort of crumple when I hit the ground. Finally someone asked if I look down. Well, no, you told me not to in the first jump class. Now they are suggesting that I flare without looking down, and then look, so I am not surprised by the ground. So far, I haven't remembered to try that, but I will let you know if it helps!! Blue skies, Anne
  9. Leave it to FFF to turn a perfectly innocent thread into something about sex!!!!
  10. Joe, I bought an Alti III, just like I had used on student status. Brian has a Digitude. You ought to ask him if you can jump with it this weekend so you can compare for yourself!! Blue skies, Anne
  11. SPECTRE FOR PREZ, SPECTRE FOR PREZ!!!!!! I would be willing to be your campaign manager if you keep your campaign promises!!!! Blue skies (and free jumps for us chicks) Anne
  12. Dude, it is SOOOO much easier to be a student that to be a teacher, especially of 14/15 year-olds. Think about the hormones that I have to deal with!!!! Think about the psycho parents that I have to deal with. Think about the creative lies I have to listen to!!!! AAAARRRGGGHHHH!!!!!
  13. I am afraid of how fast you would go if you really relaxed!!!!
  14. Ok, not skydiving related, but.... I am a teacher and have not worked since June 8. I have to be a work at 8 am on Monday. BOOHOO!!!! I teach freshmen. Only freshmen. I am not ready to go back!! The good news is that I report of the 20th. The kids report on the 23. My first paycheck of the year (complete with raise) arrives on the 24th. I know, I will get no sympathy from most people- y'all work 12 months a year!!! I don't know how you do it!! Blue skies and extended vacations, Anne
  15. I think that what scared me even more than the fact that he landed it (albeit safely) was the fact that he seemed so excited and jumped up about landing it. I hoped he would be scared to death that he attempted to land such a sketchy canopy!!!
  16. My friends and I do something similar at bars. We peel the labels off our beers and stick them on unsuspecting people, male or female. The pics are hysterical. I wish I had the technology to scan a few!!! Keep it up Fruce, it is fun to see! Anne
  17. Yeah, being in the same general area helps. Sometimes DZs make students prove that they know what their log books claim, by repeating a level or a specific delay (s/l progression). Having the stamped card eliminates all of that because it proves you are licensed. You don't have to wiat for USPA to process the whole thing.
  18. What, am I the only single skydiver??? Where are we on the graph???
  19. Jonathan, You are licensed in terms of jumping most places, etc. as soon as you finish the card. To get a number you have to submit a copy of the card with the official stamp on it to USPA, then you get your number. The cool part is you can go to other DZs before you get your number as long as you have your card!!! Blue skies, Anne
  20. I think Snowflake is right. Part of your A dive is an oral exam, consisting of 20 questions chosen from the ISP sections. I think this is officially new as of the last couple of weeks. So far, I haven't heard of anyone at my DZ (also Joe's) having the oral instead of written, but I could be wrong! Blue skies, Anne
  21. Welcome Slappie! Yes, this is an addictive sport. Worse, whuffos just don't get us... I feel myself slipping further and further away from maintream society (not that I'm complaining!!) Enjoy and Blue skies, Anne
  22. I can't decide who you look more like... a gymnast (really flexible back) or.... GUMBY!!! No wonder you are falling so fast!!! Looks like you were having fun, and that is all that matters!! Blue skies, Anne
  23. Here at Archway in Illinois: I trained on god-knows what with Mantas, then Dolphin with Skymaster 230 It is a predominantly Mirage DZ- lots of PD canopies, although the trend seems to be toward Cobalts. Blue skies, Anne
  24. JOE!!! Welcome!!! I am glad you are finally here!!! Good to hear about your jump with Jason. He is so awesome to jump with, especially whan you are just starting out!!! I learned so much from him on our first two jumps. I can't wait for you to get your license so we can jump. Are you a fast faller, slow faller or something in between?? Anyway, welcome and we love to hear jump stories here! Blue skies, Anne
