Actually Dom, you got the exact opposite of the point I was going to make. If I change a few words from my original post look how it reads. Many of the supporters of Muslim rights feel that the constitution guarantees them the right to practice any religion they choose. They feel that practicing their religion when and where they choose should not be a crime. If someone commits a crime over their religion, they should be prosecuted for the crime that they committed. They should not be treated like a criminal just for being a Muslim despite the fact that others in the past (most likely more in the future) have used religion to justify committing all sorts of various crimes. That is pretty much the gist pro freedom side of the argument is it not? We can even take it a step further and add in the fact that like assualt weapons, Muslims look scary. You are sort of correct, I am trying to point out an inconsistency but it is not really meant for this thread. I wanted to make sure that I understand the argument before I draw parallels to anything else. Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

So then I can assume that this is how most of the "Gun Nuts" feel when you boil it down? Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

Actually, that is not the argument that I usually hear. Especially when there are proposed bans on things like assault weapons. Those that do feel that it is not unlimited seem to always think the line should be drawn right behind or below their weapon of choice. Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

I know there have been many gun threads on here over the years, but in this case I am looking to make sure I am on the right page with this argument. I am all for gun rights, I own guns myself and I am actually heading to the range later today. Many of the supporters of gun rights feel that the constitution guarantees them the right to own any weapons they choose. They feel that owning a gun should not be a crime. If someone commits a crime using a gun, they should be prosecuted for the crime that they committed. They should not be treated like a criminal just for owning a gun despite the fact that others in the past (most likely more in the future) have used guns to commit all sorts of various crimes. That is pretty much the gist pro gun side of the argument is it not? Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

I worked in WTC for several years. I was born in Israel and grew up a Jew in NY before realizing that religion is a crock. I lost numerous friends and co-workers that day. I strongly feel that opposing the building of this Mosque goes against the basic principles of freedom that this country was founded on. I honestly am disgusted by the people that oppose it. For the life of me I can't comprehend how you can oppose it and still call yourself a patriot. Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

C'mon Wendy, don't make him do math. Math is hard I guess none of the books he read were math books! Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

Hey Dom, Do we investigate every church that opens to see where the money is coming from before we decide if it is ok for them to build or not? Maybe we should see if they are connected to such terrorist organizations as the Vatican before we should allow them to build. Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

Of all of the arguments against this, that is probably the dumbest of all of the ones I keep hearing. When you can show me that all of the Muslim world participated in 9/11 then I will agree with that statement. Since that is not the case and anyone with half a brain knows it, that statement is just idiotic. I know you won't answer this, but would you have a problem if the US Military wanted to open a recruiting center a few blocks away from the site of the Oklahoma city bombing? Actually, you are completely wrong, the system is not being abused, it is working exactly as it should. The majority of voters should never be allowed to vote away the rights of the minority. The courts are the ones that have to decide if the minorities rights are being voted down and if they decide they are, then the majority loses. That is exactly the system of checks and balances that the FF had in mind. The majority does not and should not rule! Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

Damn near certain you didn't actually read what was written. Actually the really scary part is I bet he did. Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

Do you understand that you have just tossed something else out there to incite discussion on another point? What the hell does the righteousness of the Iraq invasion have to do with the mosque? Little to nothing. I happen to think that the mosque should be there and anything that disallows it is anathema to freedom. I happen to understand the reaction of those traumatized by it. I also think that the Iraq carrot does not lead to anything useful but rather obfuscates any legitimate discussion. My comment about Iraq had nothing to do with the righteousness of the invasion. It had everything to do with blaming the right people. For a long time after the Iraq invasion people blamed Iraq for 9/11. Most knew they had nothing to do with each other. It makes no difference whether or not you supported the Iraq war. The families of the victims of 9/11 have every right to be pissed. They should just be pissed at the right people. You say that like good inexpensive space is easy to come by in manhattan. I guess they have every right to be pissed at the people building the mosque. Just like they had every right to be pissed at the people of Iraq for 9/11 Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

I have no idea. Nor have I stated that any religion would be correct in any of my posts. I have just stated that excluding it from the list of posibilities is closed minded. Believing in science and logic does not mean that you cannot also believe in a god. That was my original point. Most of you have been making assumptions ever since. I made no assumptions. You stated that lots of people all over the world believe it so it shouldn't be ignored and to ignore it would be closed minded. Lots of people believed the world was flat. It made no difference how many believed it, it was still wrong. There is not a single shred of evidence proving the existence of any deity or creator. To believe it just because lots of other people do is silly. I have not ruled out the possibility, but until there is some kind of proof, it is a fairy tale as real as Santa regardless of how many people believe. So how exactly does it work then? Is the correct religion the one with the most followers? To me it just seems that the one with the most followers is the one with the best sales force. Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

I know this has been discussed before, but since the court ruling yesterday the zealots are trying to come up with another way to stop the mosque from being built. Can someone please explain to me why anyone in their right minds would have a problem with this mosque being built. This mosque being built exactly where they are building it represents everything good about the USA to me. Can anyone who opposes this give me any good reason other than fear why this should be stopped? Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

For reasons which defy logic, many on the right consider Reagan one of the greatest presidents. I thought this was interesting. http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/barack-obama-ronald-reagan-approval-ratings-economy-link/story?id=11182543 Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

Actually, yes. I have thought about that quite a bit. Given that the man has spent the better part of his life as a strategist, I find it hard to believe that he didn't know exactly what he was doing. Just not sure exactly what his endgame is. Although now he has become a household name, so there are lots of options for him. Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

he could listen to someone that has a clue because he clearly does not. ps [sorry about the "shouting" but I had my cap lock on and I am lazy] Listen to what, the words of a General that gave his opinion to Rolling Stone Magazine? Sorry, I don't care who the General is or what his past service record is, he has disgraced himself. Publicly bashing the CinC in a magazine was as unprofessional as it gets. If a low ranking nobody had done that they would probably be facing a dishonorable discharge at best. He is lucky he is not facing the same. The President had no option but to fire him and to be honest he showed him a lot more respect in the way he accepted the resignation than he was shown. I may not agree with everything this President has done, but this could not have been handled better. Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

I didn't miss anything. Conservatives are great he is even greater, liberals are useless wasters of oxygen that never do anything except take handouts...that about right? Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

All that to do and you still have enough time to come on here and tell everyone how great you are. Congrats! Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

Wait, I thought expanding government programs is bad. They can't do anything right anyway. Oh I see, it's only bad if it is a program you disagree with. It's perfectly fine and they are more than competent if it is a program you agree with. I never mentioned whether I agreed or disagreed with the idea as I felt it was not the point. OK then lets say that response was to everyone in general and not you specifically

Obama upset about the oil spill "blame game"... Seriously?
okalb replied to ridestrong's topic in Speakers Corner
Wow, I am really not sure how you got that from what I said. First of all, I said that if you COULD say something in a less offensive way but CHOSE to use the offensive way knowing that it would be offensive then I have a problem with that. Sorry, but if someone is going to intentionally try to be offensive I am going to lose respect for them. As for advocation violence, I did nothing of the sort. I said you shouldn't be surprised by a negative reaction. A negative reaction in no way implies or requires violence. I tend to ignore and avoid people I don't respect.
