I was the one who started the anti-hate crime discussion in this thread. I am a white male that is as far from conservative as you can get. I am a Bush hating left wing pinko liberal and I think hate crimes are a stupid waste of time and money. If the penalty for crimes are not harsh enough to be a deterrent, fix that. I don't need the government deciding that I should be punished further because of what I was thinking at the time I committed a crime. We have gotten enough complaints about it at z-hills that we no longer tell the customer that their video WILL be posted. We tell them to fill out the form and if their video is SELECTED they will get an email and it will be posted. That way we don't get the calls when they never get their video posted. Handbrake is by far the best product out there. I am in the process of converting my entire DVD collection to MP4 (400+ disks) and I have tried everything. Handbrake is the only product that I found that will use all processors and all cores on the system. All the other only use 1. I am doing my converting on a box with Dual Xeon Dual core processors and using handbrake cut down the time to convert a movie by about 75%. I have found this to be very cyclical. Every few years there is a big push to replace FTE with contractors. A few years later they are trying to force all of the contractors to accept full time positions, a few years later the pendulum swings the other way again. I think it has a lot to do with the bottom line. Most companies have different budget structures for contractors vs employees. So every time they are spending too much on contractors they convert them to FT then when the headcount is costing too much they get rid of FTE and sometimes even hire the same people back as contractors for more money. I have a friend who needed back surgery a few months ago. He does not have health insurance. He saw several surgeons and was quoted prices between 35K and 45K to get the procedure. Several doctors said that they wouldn't do the procedure at all even for cash. They claimed that without insurance if there were complications, there would be nobody for them to collect the additional fees from. He ended up flying to India to have the surgery. The total cost including the surgery, airfare and hotels was just under 10K. He flew home a week later and his back is in great shape. I know of at least 5 other people that have flown to Belgium for orthopedic surguries. The quality of care is fantastic and the cost is pennies on the dollar. Laura and I both have back and neck problems and have both had surgeries in the past. We wouldn't consider anything other than the tempurpedic. I have never slept so well in my life. I recommend that you give melatonin a try. It is sold over the counter not habit forming and doesn't cause any harm. I travel all the time and have trouble sleeping in strange places. Melatonin is amazing stuff. 3mg is the right dosage for most people and it is usually sold in either 1mg or 3mg pills. The best part about it is that a bottle of 100 or so costs around $5. I used to take all kinds of stuff and a pharmacist friend of mine yelled at me and told me that they were all bad for me. I fly almost every week and have been for several years. Things have gotten so bad that I would probably say that 1 out of 10 flight I take is on time. BTW when I refer to on time, I am not talking about exactly on time. I would be happy if they were within one hour of the scheduled time. This is a problem that I have seen get worse and worse over the last few years. So far 2007 has been the worst yet. I know that you can't control the weather, but even when the weather is clear things are delayed. I think there are just too many flight. Airports like Newark have so many flight scheduled that one problem in the chain causes the entire day to be a disaster. I got on a flight there recently and the captain came on and said that we were 56 in line for takeoff. I had another where he said that he wasn't sure what number we were but he couldn't see the front of the line. It was at least a mile away he said. If I check the historical stats for most of the flights I take, they show around 30 to 40% on time rates. I'm sorry, but it can't all be weather. Those numbers are completely unacceptable.
