Congratulations! Here's to 25 more

The Aussie-made Woomera container had a similar system. Search dz.com for more if you're interested.

What out-of-the-ordinary things do you do for safety?
bob.dino replied to a topic in Safety and Training
I can't speak for the items related to O2 or to bench seating, but all the others are pretty normal, with the possible exception of this good idea: -
No. 190 - 220 sq ft is good.

A Spectre is a lovely first canopy, but not in that size. You'd want something around the 200 sq ft mark. Your exit weight (you + all your gear) is about 200lbs. Wingloading is the size of the canopy (in sq ft) divided by your exit weight. For jumpers with less than 100 jumps, a wingloading of 1.0 or less is highly recommended. That means that a canopy around the 200 sq ft mark would suit you nicely.

There's always 2nd-hand Cypres's available for a lot lot less than the cost of a new one...

Pretty good. Autumn's definitely arrived, but I'm still wandering around in T-shirts. Weekend weather was good - a little windy on Saturday afternoon, so some of the less experienced jumpers sat down, but the rest of the weekend was pretty much perfect. Winter is pretty much perfect for jumping in Sydney, though it doesn't get a little chilly by Aussie standards for first load. When do you come back? And where to?

I misread your question - I thought you were suggesting swapping the Galaxy for a Dytter now, not once you'd got your hands on an Altitrack. Whoops .

Bill Booth explained why it's not a handle in post #2 of this thread. He's also posted a longer, more in-depth explanation which you can find by using the Search Posts link above.

Mine is set to 2 by default (v1.5.0.1 on XPSP2), and still some get through - notably the tribalfusion one at dilbert.com.

um... it isn't hard at all... I don't think I've had anything to drink in something like three months... (I think I had a couple on new years... but I probably shouldn't have... ) It's hard when it's a habitual part of your life. I'm debating doing this, but I will need a dispensation: I can't, in good conscience, buy beer for my 600th without being able to drink some of it .

Maybe they've unionized?

I use the same setup as you, but it's worth mentioning that the rearwards visibility is better with rubber-band-on-rig thingys. Also: the rubber-bands won't fit on Talons due to the design of the reserve flap.

You need a visual alti. Period. A dytter is pretty useless under a slow-speed malfunction - how do you know you're above your hard deck? Oh, and you can't jump in Oz without one, whether digital or analog.

The APF have issued a Rigging Advisory Circular that matches Sparky's post.

The later SB (#20) is on the Strong website.

Parachutes Australia have the Talon2 manual on their website.

What the President of the USA says in public and what he understands of the situation may be markedly different. It's very difficult to get the complexities of a given issue into a five second soundbite, which is what is required for communication with the populace who elected him. Simplification inevitably occurs.

Happy Birthday Ms Lea.

Yeah, certified. Don't find it all that interesting anymore - it's not a challenge, and it's the challenge that I find interesting in skydiving.

Getting a new canopy is motivation to WANT to pack it? You sound sadistic. Well, if you want to jump it...
-
: 11 : 0 10 4-way jumps, and one 4-way tracking jump. All good. Beer will be owed shortly - it looks like my 600th will be a hop n pop .

Yep. All the stuff that shropshire mentions is covered there. It's not a perfect book - it's occasionally obtuse and the photos don't have enough contrast to be truely useful, but it's a hell of a lot better than nothing.

It originated on b3ta around about 4-5 years ago.

Looks like they're primarily a demo team.
