Wing Loadings - who is over?
bob.dino replied to jumpingjimmy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Good to hear -
I'm sure it needs a good cleansing.

Says Mr. "If it matters, I'm Irish." That got added around St Patricks Day to distinguish me from the "My grandmother once owned an Irish wolfhound, so I'm Irish" folk. Mostly Irish, with a little bit of a twang. Unless I'm drunk. Then it's just Irish . But hey, my number's on the DD list... Cool

Well, since I wasn't around the first time, how about: "jumping with an uninflated canopy" is base jumping?
-
Yeah, but you've gone to uni there, and you're looking for jobs in the USA too, right? You can't live somewhere for years and claim not to be part of that country... ...and I should know .

Bingo Bricks hit the ground pretty hard, and I'm damn sure you ain't as tough as one. Be careful. Even though chicks dig scars, broken legs still really suck. -

Wing Loadings - who is over?
bob.dino replied to jumpingjimmy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Who needs to search Heh. I was thinking of a different poll, aimed more at low-to-medium experience jumpers. Here's one, and though it's not the one I had in mind, it supports the 30% over contention. -
I'm also waiting for a Viso, also due to cost and reliability concerns with the Neptune. That said, you might find the service situation to be better than you expect. Drop a mail to terminalsports.com.au and ask them what occurs...

There was a poll here late last year (I think). About 30% were over. Do a Search. -
If you were buying an AAD today, what would you buy?
bob.dino replied to docjohn's topic in Gear and Rigging
Yep. It's why, for the next few years at least, I'll continue to buy Airtec. I appreciate the fact that there are now competitors on the market, but I don't want to be the one to discover an unanticipated failure mode in a new product . -
The Optima is nice, and works well. It does not have a logging facility, nor is it a visual altimeter. It's only an audible altimeter.
-
There's a protector available for the Optima that makes it water-resistant

You might also try contacting NZ Aerosports, the designers.

Up near the top of the page, there's a link named "Search Posts". Click on it, enter some search terms such as "landing" or "butt slide" and have a read of the results...

It can be dangerous to your spine. Do a Search, there's been a number of informative discussions on the subject in the past...

LEARNING how to swoop, long or short recovery arc?
bob.dino replied to jheadley's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I haven't jumped a Sam, BUT if your comparision to the KA is accurate then it is not the canopy to start to LEARN to swoop on. I jump a Samurai (at Brian's recommendation). As far as I understand, it and the Katana share a number of similarities in design and flying style. However, I believe the KA is trimmed significantly steeper. The Samurai is also available up to a 170, and I'm loading mine at 1.2. I've absolutely no idea whether this is the best progression - I simply don't have the experience to make that call - but I'm having loads of fun and not scaring myself too often
