In 1999, 68.6% of the US population had driving licences, so that's a population of 192m. How do you get to arbitrarily exclude alcohol-related deaths? That gives you 1 in 4800. However, it's pretty obvious that neither you or I are trained statisticians, so how about we admit that we don't have the training to make statistical claims related to skydiving?
-
The info is all there. Why should we write it all out again because you're too lazy to type "demo" into a box and click on "Search"?
-
Nope. Never did for me, in 400-odd jumps on my 190. You're lucky. If I understand you correctly, you were very close to having a pilot chute in tow. Spend some time learning more about your gear...

That's damn cool. Is the DZ going to adopt the happy family?

T-shirt prices for tandem students
bob.dino replied to clint's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Same as anywhere else; it's a profit centre. It's advertising, but it shouldn't be free - do Disneyworld/Linkin Park/NY Yankees give theirs away? I don't think so. Consumers are conditioned to pay money for T-shirts, caps, and other branded items. Spend some money with a professional graphic designer, get some really slick-looking items of apparel, and charge whatever the market rate is in your part of the world. ~$20. -
Yes. If you use Firefox as your browser, install the VideoDownloader extension. If you don't use Firefox, start using it.

So, sitting near an open door on the way up might be a good idea?

Do a Search. Like most everything else, it's been discussed here before .

Do a Search, it's been discussed a number of times, with fairly comprehensive answers provided.

If your body language is aggressive, you're really not going to help the situation. You need to be able to stay calm and deal with him as a normal human being. You were rude and you didn't listen. You knew he wanted to talk to you about cameras and jumping and you deliberately made it impossible for him to do so. He's an instructor, and part of being a good instructor is helping people understand the non-obvious consequences of what they're doing. The correct way to deal with the situation would have been "I'm sorry, I've got to leave in the next five minutes to get my passenger home in time for work. Could we chat about this next week?" Some people are touchy-feely, and some aren't the world's greatest communicators. None of what you describe sounds like he's trying to persecute you or make your life hell. It sounds like you need to chill out a bit, and realise that he's not the devil incarnate. Next time you're out and the beer light is on, buy him a cold frosty one, sit down and have a chat about life, the universe, and everything. You'll probably find he has your best interests at heart.

Max Wingloading for 280 jumps
bob.dino replied to KevinSpencer's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Jeff should get some top-level canopy coaching before he buys a new canopy. Then he'll realise how good he actually is as opposed to how good he (or his DZO) think he is. -
Have you ever jumped a Spectre? It can turn tighter than a Sabre2, though it takes a little more toggle input to achieve the turn.
-
Just a minor quibble, but 500 jumps isn't statistically significant when reserve rides are occurring every 800-1000 jumps.

how many active skydivers in Australia?
bob.dino replied to Ugali's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Define 'active'. The APF will only issue you an FAI Sporting Licence if you've made six jumps in the last year, and you can't jump in Australia without a Sporting Licence. This is a very bad week to go asking specific questions of the APF office, as they're all at the yearly APF Conference, talking about safety, training, finances, and a million and one other things. -

What's your camera? From the website: ***There are two versions of this lens the Black Eye and the Black Eye X. The Black Eye X is slightly thicker lens and has a wider angle of view than the standard model. This has been tested on the Sony PC 101 and 105 and is the best Hand-Cam choice for these cameras. The X is also compatible on the Sony HC20, 30 and 40 with no vignetting (with a step ring). The X version will vignette on some other models. Order the Black Eye standard for all other cameras.

Any chance you could post the settings you use? It might help those that decide to shell out for a HC3...

The downplane won't instantly accelerate to 50mph, so you'll have longer than in your calculations.

Spectre-210 vs Old PD-230 (downsizing to my rig:-)
bob.dino replied to matt1215's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I understand exactly where you're coming from and, to be honest, you're probably right. However, in my experience, and in that of a teammate, once an F111 canopy gets a certain number of jumps on it, it starts to land inconsistently. The ZP canopy provides consistency, so you know that your crap landings are your fault and not that of the canopy . Make sense?
