Speeding up your fall rate
bob.dino replied to Andy_Copland's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
...but when Solly Williams was in Australia last year he said that Majik (and Airspeed if I remember correctly) were flying at sub-115mph speeds... -

When a parachute opens in the airplane...
bob.dino replied to Skyliber's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If it's inside the plane and the door is closed, contain it, warn the pilot, descend. If it's inside the plane and the door is open, contain it, close the door, warn the pilot, descend. If it's outside the plane, rugby tackle them off it to try and stop it going over the tail. It the person is inside the plane, the door is open, and the pilot chute or parachute gets outside the plane, kick the person out asap and hope like hell they don't take the plane with them. However, this situation will probably develop so rapidly that you won't have time to react before it goes to shit. At least, that's my thinking on the subject. -
I'm not as old as you, but so far since age 20 every year has just gotten better

True, but that doesn't preclude a gradual opening-up of the oil markets to trading in other currencies. If everyone started accepting EUR tomorrow, then it could cause a systemic shock in the FX market. However, if one or two countries started accepting EUR for 10% of their production, gradually expanding with time, it wouldn't be a huge deal.

Huh? You sure? I haven't heard anything about that...

Do you live in NZ? -
If we're going to do Badgers, ww could then go to the creator's site: http://www.weebls-stuff.co.uk.

Welcome back

Yup - you're in the air for a long time, holding your hands above your head. However, I'd bet it was the long walk back in the heat (maybe combined with a little dehydration?) that got ya.

Yup. If a DZ wants to jump through cloud, they have to submit a Cloud Jumping Procedures manual to CASA (Aussie equivalent of the FAA). This states who/when/how jumping through cloud can be undertaken and the procedures to use.

What makes risks acceptable versus unacceptable?
bob.dino replied to lawrocket's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Because too many people die. edit: I really like the APF Safety Poster Safe Skydiving Is An Attitude. -
I know ecletech, so if you need rights to use it, let me know.

For the benefit of others, some of the problems that can occur with ill-fitted riser inserts: Can the cutaway cable fit outside the hard insert but inside the fabric channel of the riser? Then it could be trapped there by twisted risers. Is the insert secured in the fabric channel? If not, it could slide down the cutaway cable and prevent a timely canopy release. Is the far end of the hard insert sealed? If not, and the tip of the cutaway cable can reach that far, twisted risers could trap it, preventing a cutaway. There's probably other failure modes as well, but those are the ones I can think of right now.

Turkey had 21m tourists last year. It's a fairly safe place for tourists, as long as you stay away from the borders with Syria/Iraq/Iran. However, it's not completely safe.

Still does. Of course it also says 'Jump High. Jump Low. Take Risks.' The care label on my jumpsuit says "Warning. May contain nuts."

How Do You Avoid Landing Beyond Your Target?
bob.dino replied to JENNR8R's topic in Safety and Training
If I'm on final before I realise I'm going to overshoot? I overshoot. If I've done my job correctly, I've chosen a landing 'runway' with plenty of room to both over- and undershoot. Of course, with practice, I realise earlier on in my approach that I'm too high and adjust my pattern accordingly. Sashaying in the pattern is dangerous, and it also makes it very hard to fix your pattern for the next jump, because you don't know by how far you were going to miss your target. -
Why did you start skydiving?
bob.dino replied to Chris-Ottawa's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It was 3am in a bar in Stockholm, and it seemed like a good idea at the time. -
Yup, that's the normal way it's done. Smartarse .

If it's loading a 170 at 1.7, it's definitely huge . I can see a lot of Katanas appearing at 1.3-1.7 loadings, roughly where a lot of people currently transition to XF2s. I wonder what it'll do to the sales of Stillettos?

I received a 50%-off voucher for a complete Aerodyne system.

Samsung SPH-A840 is all you need to know. Ooh, it's a USA-only CDMA model. Sorry, I don't know a bloody thing about those... if all you need is one ringtone, spending a couple of bucks might be the easiest route.
