  1. Been done - it was called a Woomera. I've seen one covered in cane toad skin .
  2. There's no way in hell he's getting an RW tutor rating in Australia with 100 jumps. Standards are higher than that here
  3. Post date: 2004. I can personally vouch for Nic. She did over 160 jumps with me last year and didn't let me kill her even once . She's no fun .
  4. The term originates in the USA, but as far as I know it's only in Australia that the jumps are part of the licencing progression. Other countries may or may not have equivalent qualifications. ps: were you up at Mike Carré's in Sydney several months back? Getting an A licence and learning to pack? About to attend an ABC camp at Nagambie? If so, we chatted. I'm the garrulous tall redhead Irishman...
  5. As I understand US law, it's illegal to force retailers to hold to a RRP, but it's acceptable to force them not to advertise their discounted prices, which is what PD has done. You can see this on amazon.com in the Electronics section - "you have to add this to your shopping cart before we tell you how much it'll cost". B&H Photo/Video require you to click a button to get the price emailed to you automatically. That may be what'll end up happening with the online stores in skydiving.
  6. Get a jump partner or two and start doing RW dives together. Download the Collegates 2-way dive pool or take the 4-way dive pool and eliminate one of the jumpers for 3-way dives. The APF have a 3-way dive pool, as well as a table of learning 2-ways in the RW training (B-rel) manual. Both available from the website.
  7. From here on in, there's no standard training progression. It's all about where you want to go! That said, get your starcrest. I've watched a guy with 1500 jumps get capped from a 12-way headdown jump because he didn't have his starcrest. Oops . Note to non-Australians: a starcrest isn't exactly what you think it is. Do a search on my name; I've described it multiple times.
  8. Borrowed a rig. Opened the container to shorten the main closing loop before jumping it. Dithered about repacking it completely. Left it for a while. Closed it without repacking it. Jumped it. One riser was twisted through the other. Nearly chopped it. My fault? The rig owner's fault? Dunno.
  9. I'll agree. This "we have great prices, but you must call us to get them" policy is endemic across US business, and is one of the most annoying things about buying retail in the USA. It irritates me to the point that I'd rather shop somewhere else. However, it's probably not annoying enough to force me to a different brand of canopy, and given that PD is the market leader I think they can get away with it. Unintended side-effect time: the headline deals dealers use in advertising materials will now feature someone else's canopies. Also, based in my layman's understanding of European competition law, any attempt by PD to enforce this in Europe would be illegal.
  10. So... you going to Leichhardt on Monday night?
  11. Best system on the market today, hands down. I've not seen a Racer tandem system, but I was informed by a local rigger that, while really good systems, they're not built as tough as RWS/Strong gear. His opinion was that a Racer was a great personal tandem rig, but not industrial-strength enough to be economical in a busy rotation. Thoughts?
  12. Buoyancy is the word you're looking for. He's from Texas, they don't send much time "looking" for words.
  13. Why infinity over a Javelin or Mirage? Why not? C'mon, that's not a useful answer. JP is a regular advocate of Infinity containers, and I'd love to see him step up and say why he likes them so much.
  14. If you're wearing a skydiving shirt, of course you're gonna get questions. These days, I rarely mention it, except when it's kinda hard not to. "So, what did you do on the weekend?"
  15. A well tailored suit, cut in an Italian style, hair gel, and too much aftershave.
  16. That's possibly the most offensive & judgemental thing I've ever read on this board. And that includes Speaker's Corner.
  17. ...which could legitimately be a firing offence.
  18. Buoyancy is the word you're looking for.
  19. Good sex with someone with whom you are in love. Good fucking answer.
  20. If he can't do it, I'd be pretty sure Parachutes Australia can.
