  1. Out of curiosity, where in Oz do you plan on doing your training? Oh, and one reason to get into the sport: the people are, on the whole, lovely.
  2. Do us a favour. Go off, read up on the economics of operating a DZ, then come back and say that. The only reason most DZs can operate turbine aircraft is by using the cash-flow from tandems to pay for them. Oh, and how many jumps do you really have?
  3. The Viso is not a direct replacement for the Pro-Track. Having no audible alarms, it's designed to be worn on the wrist as a digital altimeter. The Optima is also not a direct Pro-Track replacement - it's got audible alarms for freefall and for canopy, but no log-book functionality. The Solo is a cut-down Optima, with just the one set of freefall alarms. So, it depends on the functionality you're after... a Neptune can do everything that a Viso and an Optima can do, but if you mount it on your wrist you can't hear the audible alarms, so you end up buying two anyway! Make sense?
  4. Tsing Tao Budwar Asahi Super Dry Staropramen 12 Kronenbourg (France-brewed only)
  5. The problem lies in the fact that you can only obtain this judgement after someone is killed/hurt. Money can't make up for the fact that your son is dead.
  6. Based on the whois, and poking around a bit, it's Bill Domenico who also sells hook knives through http://www.safetyknife.com. Contact info is in the whois.
  7. One other factor is that the world's currencies are usually quoted against USD. So, if you have HKD (Hong Kong Dollars) and want to buy SGD (Singapore Dollars), you'd usually sell your HKD for USD, then use the USD to buy SGD. Which means that every country has a vested interest in ensuring the USD stays stable. In some ways, the USA is acting as the world's banker.
  8. And she shouldn't be worrying her pretty little head trying to argue with a man.
  9. Use the Search function. Well, you could if it wasn't currently broken . The APF have a bunch of different dive pools (3-way, 4-way, 8-way), and Skydiving Magazine sell load organising books with all sorts of odd formation sizes in 'em.
  10. : 11 : 0 Ten 4-way jumps with three guys far more experienced than I. Had loads of fun and didn't completely disgrace myself
  11. I'll happily disagree with you. Booties are just control enhancers - you still need to fly your body.
  12. You didn't pay much attention in English class, did you? Look up the difference between "to" and "too".
  13. It happens in Australia. Completely wrong. Beer is for sharing. When you get a licence you buy beer. Everyone who drinks one then asks "who bought the beer", and goes and says thanks. You then get to know people and become part of the dz. Everyone wins.
  14. Student mains (large F111, 7-cell) and sport mains (smaller, ZP, 7- or 9-cell) fly completely differently. You're also a way away from buying your own gear. When you finish AFF, start asking around. Ask the instructors who've worked with you their opinions. You won't be jumping your own gear until you've completed most of your B-rels. I seriously doubt any instructor will recommend you get a 200sqft+ F111 canopy as a main. In fact I'd hazard a guess that many would explicitly recommend against it. I'll buy you dinner if you're told to find anything other than a 170 such as a Sabre, Sabre2, Safire2, etc .
  15. There's a ditching hatch above the right seat of some Skyvans. If it's removed you could climb up and out onto the roof. Of course, it's in front of the props, so you really don't want to slip.
  16. The best canopy pilots at my DZ have never done less than 500 jumps on each canopy they've owned. One of my mentors (hi Mike!), did 1000 jumps on his Sabre 150, then 600 on the next, then 1000 on the one after that.... etc etc. He's now off to Austria in a couple of months to represent Australia in the World Cup of Canopy Piloting. Don't be in a rush to downsize - you can learn a hell of a lot on a Sabre2 150, knowledge that will stand you in good stead when you do downsize.
  17. Noone's checking the date on this thread, are they? It was posted in 2005...
  18. And you're doing exactly the same. Don't.
  19. 1 reserve ride due to floating ripcord on jump 27-ish. Currently at 630-odd jumps.
  20. Here's a review of the HC3.
  21. Best info I've seen so far: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2116409;#2116409 You might try PMing Henny and seeing if he's tested any more lenses in the meantime.
