    I don't know much about the QLD DZs, but South of Byron Bay, there's a DZ at Port Macquarie (Cessna?), one at Elderslie (Cessna; in the Hunter Valley, near Newcastle), one at Warnervale (Turbine Beaver/Cessna; just North of Sydney), and one at Picton (XL/Otter/Skyvan/Turbine Beaver; about an hour South of Sydney). The APF website has contact details.

    If you're doing 100-120 jumps a year I wouldn't expect you to downsize too quickly at all. It's also worth noting: gear in sizes suitable for new jumpers has great resale value. This means that you can buy a second-hand rig, do a bunch of jumps on it, and sell it for very close to what you paid for it. A wingloading of 1.0 or less comes highly recommended. Don't get hung up on this. The flight characteristics rather than the number of cells should drive your decision. Some good canopies: Spectre, Safire2, Sabre2, Pilot, Triathlon. There are others too. Pretty much all modern containers will do the job. If second-hand, get it inspected by a rigger and tell them you plan on freeflying in it. I don't think it matters much either way, but make sure to factor in service costs when pricing one. Again, if it's been inspected by a rigger and is a suitable size it doesn't really matter. Just my opinion
