  1. There's a canopy course at Picton on Saturday October 21. Sign up, learn lots, build confidence. Easy
  2. You may already know this, but for the original poster: Perris have nice accomodation available on the DZ.
  3. It's my uninformed opinion that much of the 7 cell vs. 9 cell conventional wisdom comes from the days of F111 mains and doesn't necessarily apply to today's canopies. Next time someone says 7 cell canopies suck, ask them to count the cells on a Velocity... I did 400+ jumps on my Spectre 190 loaded at ~1.0. It was a great canopy, and I'd highly recommend it.
  4. Also worth considering: Adidas Samoa or Samba. Rubber on the front, decent cushioning (the Samoa was originally a running shoe, and the Samba was for indoor soccer), and a tread that's not too grippy.
  5. Are you sure? Everyone seems to be stable in that photo.
  6. Get a good jumpsuit early on. It makes a massive difference to your flying, and one that fits properly is worth its weight in gold. A good article on the subject.
  7. My PAL Sony 350 wouldn't send NTSC footage via Firewire. I'm thinking it's a design limitation of the cameras. DSE may know more.
  8. If you can learn to relax a little and not beat yourself up when you make mistakes, you'll a) learn faster, and b) smile more. (b) is the important one
  9. I got on a team when I had about 40 jumps. When you look at the video of our first few jumps, we probably averaged about 2 people in frame at any one time. We sucked, badly. Six months later I was on a team that came second at the Aussie Nats in 4-way Intermediate. Doing a team is the best way to get better. You're going to be shit at the start, but if you keep jumping together and keep having fun, you'll get a whole lot better. Also: get a coach, get camera. Both are vital - you'll improve far more quickly.
  10. You cannot get an AFF rating in Australia without at least 4 hours of freefall time.
  11. I've no idea. They could be perfect, but if your tendons are bugging you the day after a run, it's at least possible that they aren't. edit: In a speciality store, they video you running and see how your feet move. Then they recommend a shoe or shoes that suits your running style. Apparently, I need quite a bit of cushioning, but have a fairly neutral gait. So, they pulled three or four pairs of shoes and we found the ones that fitted me best. There's no real magic to it, it's just a shoe fitting service with people that understand running.
  12. It was about 20-30% more expensive than buying the shoes in a Footlocker-type place. Definitely worth it.
  13. Get a henna swastika on your bicep and you'll fit right in on Fox News. / Stereotyping. That channel scares me.
  14. Have you spent money on a good pair of running shoes? I spent a good chunk of change on a pair of shoes that fitted me and my running style and found running became much more enjoyable. My knees like me more as well. Go to a specialist running store - preferably one with video gait analysis to help you ensure you get the shoe that's right for you.
  15. Last 20 posts made by you. Only one other than this in the last 48hrs. Looks like he played nice. Check your Sent PMs folder too.
  16. I did about 3km this morning before work, and am really enjoying it. I've got a big weekend ahead so I'm not sure if I'll run tomorrow (Fri). We shall see.
  17. Read the thread. Properly. Your question has already been answered at least twice.
  18. Enjoy the rest of a stressful meaningless working life then. Or get another job.
  19. We have floor seating in ours. And yeah, if there are any tandems or wingsuits, 17 is impossible. 90+% of the time sixteen is the max we turn with.
  20. The Australian Parachute Federation defines it as: It could be argued that this categorises tracking dives as Flatfly RW.
  21. Sounds like a damn good idea.
