  1. Funny how it's only the guys doing stupid shit that get flamed, eh?
  2. There's always the back door, right? That's where Baz exited when the Caravan lost its tail. I'm not sure how comfortable it is, but the Otter, XL, and Skyvan pilots wear back-type bailout rigs containing squares.
  3. General background: When you scan a document it's converted into a picture. Most likely either a TIFF or JPG. If you're scanning directly from within Acrobat, you're probably getting a huge high-resolution TIFF dumped into your PDF. It contains lots of information about your document that you don't need - all that "yep, this bit is white too" is a bit unnecessary. So, by reducing the resolution & color depth (selecting the B&W option), you're telling the scanning app to store less information, resulting in a much smaller doc. For further size reductions, have a look around and see if you can change the format output by the scanner. TIFF, PNG, and JPG are word you're looking for. The smaller your documents, the more your clients will like you
  4. Don't turn up hungover. Eat normally. Wear shoes with laces (not slip-ons). Preferably trainers. Pay attention. Smile. Have fun
  5. It's a good idea for jump pilots to wear bailout rigs. The rules in Australia are in the process of changing so that all pilots must wear rigs.
  6. And Angeldust is also an illegal growth hormone for cattle.
  7. "Do the behaviours developed by experienced skydivers help them in other aspects of their lives?" eg, does learning to be decisive when a malfunction occurs help you make clear decisions when the pressure is on at work?
  8. Ah, getcha. I use both and find them useful, but maybe you're flying your base leg significantly faster than I am?
  9. Really? I find it damn useful. Huh? The canopy alert will flat-line at the third altitude set, to let you know you're at whatever altitude you specified. That's how it's supposed to work.
  10. If you want the freefall speed and times, why not just get a ProTrack?
  11. Additionally, multi-plane ops complicate things significantly. How easy is it to get a go-around at Perris or Eloy on a busy weekend?
  12. That's a damned good idea, I'm going to get a little bottle to put in my duty bag. Not for dead rats so much, but dead people smell really badly sometimes. I use a menthol inhaler as a preventative measure to help keep sinuses clear. Extra bonus: you can't smell farts on the plane
  13. That's not a nice thing to call your boss!
  14. Don't you dare start trying to get everyone to call it Exacta-Chute® .
  15. It's the EU. Your assumption is incorrect. Consumer protection laws apply to the country of purchase, not the country of manufacture. Otherwise a computer made in China and sold in the UK would be subject to China's consumer protection laws and not the UKs. Which, as you know, is not the case. This is also why Parachute de France don't sell gear in the USA. They'd be subject to the legal environment of the USA, with all its attendant litigation problems.

    tube stoes

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but surely the two locking stows are under no additional pressure as the bag lifts out of the container? As I understand it, the only way to add tension is from the lines, and they're being metered by the other stows.
  17. Why? I see this advice often, but if a reason has been posted I've missed it.
  18. ATC clearance. Our DZ is in controlled airspace above 7,500ft, and big jets are vectored through all the time. Diverting a full 747 on approach to Sydney because you didn't like the spot won't make you popular.
  19. I don't believe slider locks come standard on any risers, but can be added to most (all?) risers, either at time of manufacture or after the fact. Velocity Sports Equipment put them on for me when I ordered a pair of Infinity risers. Here's a sample diagram.
  20. You're a Premier member, therefore you don't see the ad links within the posts here. Non-paying freeloaders () see every occurrance of the word Icon (& Aerodyne, and some others) as links to ads for the respective products. There was some fairly vigorous debate on this topic when it was originally introduced...
  21. Recreational use is pretty much for the same reasons as people drink alcohol... why do you drink?
  22. Because we're in Bonfire? I thought it was damn funny .
