Getting over a painful breakup -- what do you do?
bob.dino replied to masterblaster72's topic in The Bonfire
Nice style. Pretty brave to start with a bear though. -
It's a thread about sex, so Icon has to pop up and remind us all that he's not getting laid. Don't worry, you get used to it.

Are they wearing earplugs so they don't have to listen to you?

Titusville Manifest and Sky Gods new deployment altitudes
bob.dino replied to jraf's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The NSW Area Safety Officer was chatting to an instructor recently, and I was lurking. When talking about low-pullers, he said spiraling down straight after opening is a really suspicious sign . Unless you're in linetwists on a crossbrace . -
Reasons why the dollar could become stronger compared to the Euro?
bob.dino replied to FrancoR's topic in Speakers Corner
1- Most countries hold most of their foreign currency reserves in USD. 2- The global FX market will not function without the USD - it's the primary cross currency, and it's by far the most liquid. 3- Risk in the FX market is marked from USD Treasury bonds - they're the lowest-risk financial instruments available. 4- The USA is the largest trading partner and consumer of goods for many nations. 5- Currently, the USD is the only currency you can use to buy oil. Some, or most of these may change, but as it stands, no-one can afford a crash in the USD. -
You just answered your own question .

When this goes wrong. Make sure to check out the linked dropzone.com discussion for more info on what's going on.

For competitive skydivers, getting kicked in the face is more common than getting CPR. Getting kicked in the face while wearing a full-face may be the difference between needing CPR or not. I've been hit hard enough to see stars. I'll stick with the fullface, thanks.

I prefer the Z1 to the Oxygn A3 - I think the visor is more secure, and it doesn't break if you exit the aircraft with it open. I've no experience with the Mamba.

"You're on the right track."

No, he's saying that unless you know how to cook, you probably shouldn't presume to criticize another's cooking methods. I thought seaweedknees' post was interesting and insightful. But then, I don't know a fuckin' thing about flying. Maybe he's just bullshitting me .

I thought Anansi Boys and Underworld were significantly better. His book with Terry Pratchett Good Omens is also excellent, as well as being damn funny. Terry Pratchett has written a large number of very good books. She might enjoy one or more of the Discworld novels. Guards, Guards is a particular favorite of mine.

Where to jump for first time near LA or San Diego?
bob.dino replied to timmerk's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Methinks you missed the following sentence in the original post: -
Michael Vaughan (michael_qld on here; 9th in Vienna) has been jumping a JVX 79 for over a year now. If he's got less than 500 jumps on it I'd be shocked, as he usually does best part of 1000 jumps/year. I'm pretty sure he jumps it while doing 4- and 8-way training. You could try PMing him for more insight.

For lots of fun jumping, it's hard to go past Toogoolawah. Several caravans, a pool, friendly locals, and all that.

Program to boost anti-spam in Yahoo account?
bob.dino replied to skydiver30960's topic in The Bonfire
If Yahoo! offer POP3 or IMAP access to your account, you can use Outlook/Thunderbird/etc to read your mail and apply whatever extra spam protection measures you desire. Edit: It looks like Yahoo! offer free POP3 access to your mail as long as you are willing to let them spam you . -
Huh? I was under the impression that the JVX was designed and manufactured by Jyro of NZ Aerosports, and that Jim was the US distributor. As for why Jim can be annoying online: I've never met the man, but every post he made here seemed to be either advertising or an attempt to draw people to his site. The posts that used drive me nuts were when he'd post in response to a question: "come ask that at canopypiloting.com". If you know the answer, why don't you just tell us? Grrr...

Why Law School Sucks...And What I'm Doing About It
bob.dino replied to brierebecca's topic in The Bonfire
I studied Comp Eng, and we had a similar all-for-one ethos. Almost everyone, with one or two exceptions, was happy to share notes, tutor others, and generally be nice. And those that didn't weren't those who ended up at the top of the class either! And yes, in my Uni, the Business students didn't cooperate at all. Their loss. -
: 9 : 0 5 2-way head-up jumps and four high-quality 4-way jumps on Sunday. Nice

Picton Xmas Boogie - Sydney, Australia
bob.dino replied to bob.dino's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Oops, forgot to update this. You don't need to supply an Australian address - you just need to put in enough information so that Sydney Skydivers can contact you if needs be. -
He kept that one a secret! Happy birthday mate. Hope you had a good one

It appears that Aerodyne have done something similar.
