Not while you've been awake...

Not feature-wise. The Neptune has far more features - it can be used as a wrist-mounted visual alti, records freefall data past the 2min mark, is firmware upgradable, etc. The downside is that despite quite a few revisions, it still suffers from a number of software bugs. The Pro-Track doesn't - it just works. So, if you want an audible that works all the time, every time, I'd recommend the Pro-Track. If you want lots of cool features and can live with the possibility that the device may occasionally fail, then the Neptune is what you're after. One other approach is to buy a simple audible, such as a Pro-Dytter, Solo, or Optima, and put all the logging on your wrist with a Neptune, Viso, or Altitrack. This is a more expensive route, but I'm mentioning it just in case you haven't thought of it.

1- Canopies do have to be certified in Germany. Not sure who does this or how it's done. 2- AFAIK = As Far As I Know.
-
That's the theory, and in my experience it's worked that way in practice too. My dealer checked me out before selling me a Spectre 190, and I've had extensive conversations with Brian Germain before purchasing a Samurai 170 and 135.
-
No, it doesn't. If you want that in an audible, you need to get a Pro-Track or Neptune. L&B have other products that do provide this info - along with the aforementioned Pro-Track, the wrist mounted Viso & Altitrack come to mind.

So what was the failure mode? One started just showing version numbers on jump run, and I'm not sure how the other went - I wasn't there when it did, just for the "anyone got an alti I can borrow".

Come to PIA and I'll gladly show you what we have up our sleeve trust me you might just be in your Element! If you pay for my ticket from Sydney, sure .
-
Rhys is in Tanzania. There aren't many folk jumping removable sliders on high-performance canopies in that part of the world.
-
Aerodyne have been running teaser ads for "Elements" to be shown at PIA. I know no more than that.

Relax. Have fun. Don't beat yourself up when you make mistakes - we all did and do continue to make 'em. Welcome to the sport

Nice post. Said all I wanted to say, better than I would have.

I've seen two fail in the last two months.

Historically, Europe and Asia have been much quicker in the uptake of more advanced phones. So much so that Nokia barely sell their N-series phones in the USA. The US market is much more enamored of clunky Blackberry clones with full keyboards than the Europeans or Asians. Additionally, the 3G infrastructure is better in Europe & Asia. EDGE gives you in or around 40kbps, whereas HSDPA will give you 1.8Mbps to 3.6Mbps. More than enough bandwidth to download new music from iTunes while you're on the train to work... I'm not at all surprised that Apple launched in the USA first. That's where their brand is strongest and the market they understand best. They are, however, targeting a less-sophisticated market. And yes, they'll sell shitloads. BTW, EDGE (Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution) is available all over the world - it's an extension of GSM. Think of it as 2.5G. Offhand I can't think of a GSM network that doesn't support EDGE. Many 3G providers, such as Three in Australia fall back to EDGE on GSM when out of UMTS coverage.

Email Terminal Sports and ask 'em to bring some different ones out to the DZ for you to try. Or poke your head into the Ground Rush café and ask Elise what she's got in stock.

Bit of a layoff + new canopy. Quick question...

Just look for the American. Heh heh . -
The phones have worked just fine for over a decade. The problem is the shitty US carriers. Move back to the UK and you'll have no problems. Why should the rest of the world wait around for the slow ol' Yanks to catch up on the basics?
-
I'm not a sucker for i-anything. Hell, I don't think I've ever purchased an Apple product, though we did have a pair of Apple ][cs at home when I was a kid. I am a bit of a sucker for high-end phones though . I plan on picking up a Nokia N95 when it comes out. The iPhone won't be released in Australia until 2008 or so. I can see only two major problems with the iPhone: launching first in the USA instead of Europe/Asia, and no 3G. That said, I wouldn't be surprised to see a refresh adding 2100MHz HSDPA to the phone before it goes on sale in Europe. 1.8Mbps - 3.6Mbps downloads are not to be sniffed at.

Bit of a layoff + new canopy. Quick question...
bob.dino replied to grue's topic in Safety and Training
Go to Nagambie Find the CI, Luke Oliver Explain your concerns, and listen to his advice Go and enjoy your jumps Luke is very very good at what he does, and his advice has always struck me as sensible. He's also written a thesis on teaching canopy control, so its a subject he's given considerable thought to. -
Did you have to repeat any AFF levels?
bob.dino replied to daniel52587's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Repeated level 5 twice. Now got ~840 jumps and a bunch of medals. Keep at it -
Not really. The nearest major town is Kildare, to which you could get either a train or bus. Based on the website, it's about 20km in a taxi to Clonbullogue. It might be easier to email or call the IPC and see if there's someone that can give you a lift.

Nice. Happy (belated) Birthday!
-
If you can, go out, hang out, meet new people. Give Luke Oliver a big sloppy kiss from me. You never know, you might even get help with a request you posted in another forum if you're discreet.

That's what you get for living in Bondi. Plenty of pisshead Brits there too. Go spend time somewhere else.

You can't legally send alcohol to the USA without a license from the FDA.
