  1. Since June last year? Skybytch has also been posting here for quite some time. But anyway, now I suppose it is me being the bitch - I'll just have to remember which one of my bitches (i vs. y) I am talking to... nyaa hahahaha /s
  2. Hi SkySue I'll tell you another advantage of static line jumps : they certainly will teach you about line twists and how to deal with them!
  3. Hi Speedy Well my DZ at Langar has a really cool pub in the clubhouse (Chuckles) and the prices are quite reasonable too (well, by London standards anyway!). But the only real beer rule I know about there is the 'Beer Line', the DZ has a HUGE landing area, but if you land past the line (ie too close to the spectators and parked planes) then you owe a case. It was quite funny because this past Saturday 3 students landed past the beer line, and the JM on the load was the owner of the DZ Pub (Chuckles the man himself). And of course guess where those students have to buy their beer... But you guys have to bear in mind that alcohol (like fuel) is really heavily taxed here, so buying a case puts a far bigger dent in the wallet. I definitely didn't mind paying my dues beer-wise in California, but there is no way we could afford to buy beers here for all the things you guys do. /s
  4. Hey Sangiro Wasn't that the weekend the Norris family came to visit at Citrusdal? You know lots of little red-maned people with hangovers you SO did not want to f@ck with? /s PS I am only this brave because I know he won't see this and I am in a different hemisphere to the ginja ninja!
  5. Well, all I can say is that I was looking to get one as well, did some research on it, spoke to someone who jumped one and.... just placed my order for it.
  6. I have noticed from a number of posts that some of you have family in the sport. Wingi's sis did a tandem with him, Greg's brother jumps too and so does unclebennie's brother. Who else of you have siblings (or any family for that matter) who skydive? Also who got who into the sport first? /s
  7. Huffer, I seem to remember you saying you get paid pretty well and you work 6 months on and 6 months off - that means you will still have more time for skydiving than any other fun jumper, so just think about getting back to shore with all that money (then buy me some jump tickets). I wouldn't worry too much about learning to pack just yet. You will still be jumping club gear at Langar and you have to have a packing certificate to pack that anyway. Chris does a packing course on Tuesdays (when there is a demand) which will teach you absolutely everything you need to know (plus things like changing mains). /s
  8. LMFAO Carl you must have bloody big balls at that! Dude, that was funny! /s

    New toy!

I'm really glad you're happy with your pro track Speedy, I have logged 20 jumps on mine so far and am still totally happy with it. The guys at work are already sick of me getting back to work every week and going 'Guess how fast I went this weekend?' or 'Guess how long my last freefall lasted?'. I also liked the fact that it came with the batteries installed AND a spare pair, not that big a deal at the price, but still a nice touch. Remember though that you have to log hop 'n pops manually, since freefalls shorter than 6 seconds don't get recorded. BTW did FreakSis's pro track turn up eventually? I remember her saying she had lost it, but don't know if she found it. /s

    Head Down Shoes

There was a lot of bullshit in Point Break, but I did enjoy seeing the guy skydiving with the boogie board flippers, I think that is exactly what you were suggesting - it looked like a lot of fun. /s
  11. Karen You can get his autobiography on Amazon - click here. Another interesting fact is that he got shot down only 5 days before his tour of duty was to end (imagine then spending almost 6 years as a POW, only having missed out on going home by 5 days!!!). /s

Who is the lucky lucky bastard? Is it an intermediate team? Are you going to be entering the nationals? /s

    toy parachutes

Uhh, Omri, living here in England you will probably get more use out of the toy one than the real one... Sad but true. /s

Here is the web-site for Allan's business. skyscience I met him about a month ago, he has some REALLY funny stories from when he was a CRW instructor in the Freds (actually most of his stories were really funny). /s
  15. Yeah, there was a guy at the DZ Saturday, he was very proud of his new FXC, with the On/Off switch and cute little red light. Somebody asked him why he didn't get a cypres instead, his reply : because the FXC was £50 cheaper!!! Of course nobody said anything, but I immediately thought of that fatality at Shreveport earlier this year where the FXC (definitely turned on) failed to fire and the student went in without pulling anything. Then of course there are the premature firings you read about. About his spin, it's bad enough he couldn't stop it, but how does that account for losing altitude awareness??? I'm glad I wasn't him when the CCI sat him down for a little chat! (When will he be doing jump nr. 46 : AFF level 1 - altitude awareness and PRCTs?) /s
  16. Tiger's idea seems a good compromise - keep the IRs on the homepage, but just place them discretely. However if the person who dies has been in the sport a really long time or made a really significant contribution, then maybe their death should still be given top billing. I'm not saying a student's death is any less tragic, just that more people in the sport would know the experienced skydiver personally. Also, remember that not all fatalities will be skydiving related. If a well known person in the skydiving community were to die in a more *conventional* manner then surely they should warrant an obituary on the site too. Will
  17. Hey! That's it, you've crossed that thin blue line, it's go time! This almost constitutes police brutality - RODNEY KING, RODNEY KING!!! See what I get for paying my taxes? Abuse, that's what I get... Just you wait, MikeD, I'm going to get my rating for CReW, then I'm going to hunt you down then we'll see just how much I suck (ooh, err, that didn't quite come out right ). /s [suck me sideways]
  18. Well then feel free to make another poll that doesn't suck.
  19. Hi guys We have been having a discussion about where IRs should be posted on dropzone.com, please select which of the following two you feel is more appropriate : Where should IRs go? On the homepage of dz.com for all to see when they view the site In a part of the website that can only be accessed by experienced skydivers /s
  20. I'd manifest myself for the very next load, and probably shed a tear or two for them on the climb to altitude. The same as when I have my first reserve ride one day, I am going to want to get back in the air as quickly as possible and deal with any demons before they start screwing with my head. But, to each their own. Grief is a very personal thing, and nobody has the right to tell you how to deal with it - I would respect your decision to stand down, just as you should respect my decision to make another jump the same day. But we are getting off the topic here, I think I am going to put out a quick poll, so we can see what everybody else thinks about where the IRs should go. Will

    New here

Hi Andrea I was in Germany last weekend, made 3 jumps at Skydive Albatros (Hartenholm) and froze my friggin ass off!!! Anyway, welcome to the *family*, and just remember, I am the only one you can trust, the rest of the guys here are all sad pathetic perverts!!! /s
  22. wingi Excellent idea! Just don't let Ben find out (umm, I think we've discovered this little flaw before...). It would be great if Sis would fly out and join us, but do you REALLY think that you, me and Ben could ever possibly hope to satisfy her??? Are we still on for the Holland weekend? /s [Moments lost in time like tears in the rain - Bladerunner]
  23. Hi guys I know BenW won't post this himself because he pretends to be shy (only to pull the chicks of course!), BUT I happen to know that he just made his 100th jump at Empuria Brava last week AND completed his Cat.10! Congratulations dude! /s PS Hey Sis, I happen to also £&£%££HSDG EG"$£^£ GW%"^"^% VGG$£" (yep, wingi this encryption device works great!)have to plan a little surprize for him... 24. Hi skymama Don't think you're the only one with problems on their canopy control. I started doing my designated 5 consecutive accuracy landings yesterday, and the sight of me frantically sachaying in attempting to make the pit gave the spectators a good laugh. Here's an idea I have for the site : how about every now and then we get a skydiving celebrity in for a chat room session? It is really hard for these guys to keep up with their personal email, so this might be a good idea for us all to *chat* with them and ask them some questions. Maybe the idea isn't feasible because of the technical problems (afterall they will be all over the world), but it would be kinda cool to be able to ask them some questions about their discipline and get some tips. /s
  25. Here are some of my thoughts on dropzone.com : *I found my *new* rig on this web-site *I researched dropzones in California on this site before I flew out for a week's holiday there in March (read my review for Skydance) *I get lots of really good tips and advice on this site (eg I finally learnt to roll in a track/backtrack after trying a suggestion given me on this site) *I get a helluva lot of entertainment and pleasure from reading posts (thank you FFF and MikeD) on this site and contributing to them *I have made lots of new friends through this site (and have already met up with 3 dz.commers subsequently) * I researched my first NEW rig (Wings, hornet, tempo) on this site and am ordering it from Rigs n Things after reading good recommendations for Roy and his shop on this site) * Even though I am a beginner I can communicate with and learn from some top skydivers from all around the world on this site *This site is blindingly fast *This site is free *I'll say that again : this site is FREE!!! *This site is packed with great features (like private messages and a 2Mb web-based mail account) I could think of lots more stuff, but my point is just that we have a good thing going here. Sangiro is right, lets start making an effort and contributing ideas and/or material. Regarding scaring off potential jumpers : Me, personally, I don't give a shit about anybody who gets scared off making a tandem jump because they read about fatalities on this site. If they had half a brain their immediate reaction should be to look up the jump statistics on the net (ie total jumps made vs. related fatalities per annum) and then make an informed decision about whether or not they want to jump. Anybody who really wants to become a skydiver will do their homework and then go for it via whatever progression method suits them. There is enough tandem luggage out there, I don't believe the odd person getting scared off because they read about fatalities is going to result in tandem masters and camera flyers going hungry this summer. Anyway I can promise you that those same whuffos who view this site will also make searches in Google for things like 'skydiving maimed dead very dead f@cking dead'. If you average out the worldwide fatalities every year, then that means that just about every week somebody dies in the sport (note I said worldwide). Why should these tragedies not be front page *news* on DZ.com? How would you feel if (God forbid) one of your best friends bounced and then the report was hidden away on DZ.com where only the experienced jumpers could view it? Would that be a fitting farewell/obituary for your friend? I think not. Remember this site is there primarily for us the skydivers, if it encourages landlubbers to try the sport after reading up on it on this site, then good for them, good for us and good for the sport. It doesn't take long browsing on this site to start getting educated anyway. Sangiro, please don't hide the fatalities/incidents away. There, I think that was more than my £0.01/$0.02 worth. Will
