  1. Yes, here's a prescription for all the whuffos out there who give us shit about being skydivers : Don't worry about ever falling pregnant/getting anybody pregnant, you people are using the best contraceptive in the world : your personalities! Dr. Skreamer FAI A-license (who wants to play doctor doctor?)
  2. Yeah, lummy is right, I think you are suffering from altitude withdrawal and need to fix this quickly! Symptoms include general moodiness and irritability dealing with whuffos, and a pain in your neck from gazing up at blue skies going to waste. Buy 2 Jump Tickets and call me in the morning (to tell me about the jumps natch). Dr. Skreamer FAI A-license (please don't sue me - again)
  3. Seem to be quite a few scuba divers and a couple of snowboarders amongst you. I can't be the only mountain-biker posting here, anybody else mountain-bike? (or even roadies for that matter) What are you into, cross-country or downhill? /s [drop till you party!]
  4. Hi guys A friend has been trying to convince me that I should try CRW in the nearish future, says it really improves canopy flying skills (which I can fully believe). I will be doing RW until I get my B-license but then might like to try it. What are the requirements? About the only thing I know is that disconnecting my RSL would be a must. My wing-loading is extremely low (0.77 on a Cruiselite '220). Is this a problem, or will I have to use a different main? After buying my own rig, I can't really afford to hire (again) or buy a second rig just for CRW. Any advice re. gear required and any general pointers would be appreciated. Thanks /s [drop till you party!]
  5. Amen Mark - a good point! /s [drop till you party!]
  6. I am really sorry that I spent £20 on Pack like a Pro (PAL version). The intro was slightly amusing (the 3-way plus Billy Weber), but overall it wasn't worth the price. The voice over commentary was particularly annoying. Considering how much Billy Weber's name and experience was used on the packaging, I was expecting some really hot tips from a top rigger - but was disappointed. I got far better value paying a packer $10 to spend half an hour training me and then supervising me pack my first job. I bought Pack like a Pro after that thinking I would get additional tips and hints - WRONG! Anybody who wants to buy a PAL version of Pack like a Pro, I'll sell you my *new* copy at a discount (only watched once).

    Beer?

Merrick At Skydance I got nailed for 6 cases in two days : *first jump in northern hemisphere *first jump with own rig *first jump through ind. haze *landed out (on haze jump) *first jump from caravan *first RW jump But I got my own back - I drank as much of it as possible - ended up passed out (fully clothed) in the bunk-house. Damn, that was a good holiday! /s [drop till you party!]

  10. Craddock, here is the student SL Cat 1 progression in South Africa at present: jumps 1-3. Three static line jumps (no task) jumps 4-8. Five dummy-rip-cord-pull (DRCP) jumps jump 9. First free fall a three second stable delay jump 10. Five second stable delay jump 11. Ten second stable delay x 2 jump 12. Fifteen second in box position and on heading jump 13. Fifteen second count together with altimeter/altitude Awareness jump 14. Twenty second poised exit with altimeter and heading awareness jump 15. Twenty second unpoised (dive) exit with altimeter and heading awareness jump 16. Twenty second 180 degree turns both directions jump 17. Twenty second 360 degree turns both directions jump 18. Twenty second 2 x backloops and wave off jump 19. Full series jump 20. Delta in 2 directions and wave off jump 21. Delta & turn jump 22. Delta & track jump 23. Spin in 1 direction The SL first jump course is not so cheap anymore (understandable because a lot of people do it as a one off and DZs have to make their money somewhere, as with tandems). The subsequent 7 SL jumps are not that cheap anymore either. Then of course there is always the possibility that the student will get stuck on one particular part of the FF progression (eg back loops) necessitating repeat jumps. With AFF the instruction is hands on, feedback is spot on and not having to repeat any of the levels is not uncommon. I got to freefall via both methods (the fact that I stopped for 7 years was entirely my own *fault*). So, Craddock, I still believe that AFF presents better value for money and will make you a certified skydiver in a shorter time. Also the price of SL jump tickets has in fact gone up, since most loads go to altitude, and apart from the occasional load of first time SL jumpers, it is getting harder to accomodate SL progression jumpers on other loads. I have noticed that a number of the larger DZs in Europe (Empuria Brava being a good example) no longer offer SL progression at all - all loads go to altitude. I am sure a DZO/CCI from a larger DZ would be able to explain the financial reasons for this (SL jump ticket prices/fuel price/dimishing returns?). William Walls
  11. Hey Max, what I want to know is how did the DZO know they were your undies??? Did your mommy sew your name in them for you? /s [drop till you party!]
  12. Geoff What are the requirements to get a non-resident USPA license? ie is it OK if most of your jumps are made here but you are a member of the USPA? Are you a member of both? (can you even be a member of both?). Have you encountered any problems here or abroad because of your non-US USPA membership? What would you advise somebody in my positon (A-license nearing B requirements)? Sorry for the many questions, but I am quite curious about this (shouldn't the FAI standardize license requirements or is it out of their jurisdiction?) /s [drop till you party!]
  13. Huh? That makes absolutely no sense. If I had a 1 000 jumps then I would just get my BPA D-license anyway, so why bother making 1 000 jumps and then applying for a license you could have got after only 200 jumps??? /s [drop till you party!]
  14. I have just aquired my BPA A-license. My question is the following : If you have a BPA A-license could you then go for a USPA B license? More importantly could one get the USPA D-license after 200 jumps if all your previous licenses were BPA? I am asking this, because i could imagine quite a few people preferring to get a USPA D-license to a (1 000 jump requirement) BPA D-license. I am not too far off my B-license (as far as jumps are concerned), and 100 jumps for a C-license (200 for BPA) seems attainable, but the thought of having to spend about 6 active years in the sport for my D-license (health and budget permitting) seems a bridge too far. So, what are the regulations for crossing over between different authorities for licenses? /s [drop till you party!]
  15. I'd want to be at this mountain ravine near my sister's farm in South Africa (Tulbagh). There is a little wooden shack and you have to hike up this trail to get there. There is a stream running down this ravine, which they have dammed up into a little cement boere (farmers') jacuzzi. You can skinny dip in this little 'jacuzzi' and drink wine while you watch the sun set over the valley. It is autumn now in South Africa, so the vineyards will be looking really beautiful, all rusty yellow and gold. Damn, Jessica, now you've gone and made me all home-sick... /s [drop till you party!]
  16. Hi Newguy I got to freefall via the standard static line method and then recently did AFF (small 7 year gap in the middle). I would definitely recommend you do AFF. It might cost more initially, but will save you money in the long run. Also, you will learn a heck of a lot quicker too. If you can afford it, I would also recommend camera on at least a couple of your AFF jumps (if you decide to go with AFF that is). Don't let the weather be the deciding factor, soon you will be able to get to altitude for your AFF jumps. Anyway, that was my opinion, you decide what's best for you. /s [drop till you party!]

  24. Mike, that is one of the things I do like about the UK (along with cheap air-fares and London's umm *cosmopolitan* flavour). About two years ago, I broke a shoulder quite badly in a mountain-bike race (luckily it was my left shoulder). The NHS medical care here is awesome (despite what some locals say). Even though the bone still sticks out a bit on my shoulder, it works fine. I agree with you about the physioterrorists though... hee hee /s [drop till you party!]
  25. Och Mike I've no munched on a Haggis, do ya ken wit they taste like? (Damn, so this is what happens when you watch Trainspotting once too often...) /s [drop till you party!]
