  1. I am sorry you won't be checking this thread again, or posting again, Andre. However I stand by everything I posted, I was unhappy with what you posted and never sought to attack you personally. Yes, I am a rookie jumper and will be for some considerable time (but so was everybody in the beginning of their skydiving lives). I was not seeking to discipline you, I just felt that using the accident as a safety reminder was misplaced and inappropriate, but I understand that your intentions were good. I do hope you check back on this thread and hopefully if you ever get regular internet access you will post here again. You will find that here we tend to agree to disagree. You've got your opinions, I've got mine - no hard feelings. William Walls wmwalls@cwcom.net

  6. Frank, I agree with you 100%, but it just really saddened me that whoever started that thread chose to include this latest accident in their argument. I fail to see how a VERY experienced camera jumper dying because reserve lines got caught in a camera housing can be used as part of the argument for general jumper safety. If somebody posted about Patrick De Gayardon's tragic death 3 years ago (13 April 98) and emphasized how important it is to pack carefully no matter how experienced you are - that I can learn from. But including Jan Davis's death in this thread, was entirely misplaced and out of order. If the sport is becoming more dangerous (which the figures don't support) then surely everybody has a part to play in keeping things safe. If one of you experienced jumpers sees a new-comer like me doing something wrong, then speak up. If the unsafe behaviour is as a result of arrogance and not ignorance then ground the new-comer until they see sense. I bet when squares first came out the old-timers were whingeing in much the same fashion that we now seem to find in post-cypres times. What is my generation of skydivers going to whinge about one day? Youngsters hooking their wing-suits in??? (sorry, trying to inject a bit of humour there because I was really pissed off earlier) /s [drop till you party!]
  7. Hi Sangiro I can totally see why you would want some uplifting material. May I make a suggestion? Here in the UK at about this time of year the papers all print articles that are a round-up of all the big music festivals lying ahead (Reading, Glastonbury etc.). Location, band line-up, prices, etc. Why not do something similar for all this summer's upcoming boogies? You could even make it a permanent feature of your home page (call it 'Boogie Blitz' or something more catchy). You could tell us the planes that would be available, coaching, demos (both gear and skydiving), locations etc. etc. For people like me who are new to skydiving it would be great, because then we could find all the boogie info in one place (with links to the official boogie pages of course). Then after the boogie, perhaps various DZ.commers can submit their reports (maybe even reviews like for the dropzones?). Just an idea. /s [drop till you party!]
  8. Using the tragic accident as a platform for this little diatribe is reprehensible. Whoever you are (and however many jumps you have and how ever many years you have been in the sport), you have just displayed extremely poor taste and timing. The fact that you chose to post anonymously also garners you very little respect in my eyes. So, according to you most jumpers do not do everything they can to avoid dying??? Rather than get into a protracted argument with you which would be in even further poor taste, I implore you to have a look at the following tables, get your facts straight and then think twice before using a tragedy as grounds for a misplaced whinge about safety. US fatalities : 1995 - 2001 US fatalities : 1963 - 1997 Have a look at those figures, consider that there are more people skydiving now than ever before and then please don't post such misplaced crap again. I never met Jan Davis, but from the obits posted to her on rec.skydiving I appreciate that she was a very special person who will be missed. The fact that you saw fit to include her tragic death as part your argument was both in extremely poor taste and entirely illogical.I had written a lot stronger worded response, but out of respect to the lady who died, I didn't think it would be appropriate or respectful. Please feel free to continue this discussion privately (whoever you are). William Walls

    Depression!

Dude, here's a bit of pop psychology : sounds like you are focussing too much on yourself and your shyness and that only worsens the problem. My *Jerry Springer* moment: give your life another dimension that is not skydiving related and puts no pressure on you socially. Join a local charity and do half a day's work there every week (preferably when the weather's crap). This'll allow you to focus on something other than yourself, it will also make you feel better about yourself and you will meet women in a friendly environment (ulterior motive? never!!!). /s [drop till you party!]

    Hook turns

Yeah, Frank - you and Craig are both right (my only suggestion to Mr. Anonymous would be to buy 'The Skydiver's Handbook' by Mike Turoff and Dan Poynter). Also, doesn't this sort of thread belong in the 'Safety and Training' forum? This reeked of a troll... /s [drop till you party!]
  11. Also, wingi, who were you jumping with? What was the social side like afterwards? The very fact that you are home and on the net instead of having some drinks and a chat at the DZ already says a lot to me. Which DZ do you jump at? I am hoping to make some skydiving trips to Germany shortly to visit a friend, let me know where you jump and I'll come skream some enthusiasm into you... And remember, my DZ in the UK has a Let and I'm buying a car (road trip Woo-Hoo!!!), so you better come to London soon!
  12. Yeah, we saw this strange thing in the sky over London today, I think it's called the *sun* or something... Man, you guys shoulda seen it - I hope we get to see it again, one day, maybe... *sigh* /s [drop till you party!]
  13. Hey Jessica Have you been using the microwave with the door open???? thumpa thumpa thumpa /s [drop till you party!]
  14. Sure, it happens all the time in Australia! Sorry, but you guys seemed to need a little cheering up. Here in the UK we've got both the cattle problems AND on-going shit weather (spring my ass). /s [drop till you party!]
  15. hey speedy Will your new religion include a comet ride and a new pair of Nikes? /s [drop till you party!]
  16. Only if Speedracer starts it and runs it the same way he would a country... /s [drop till you party!]
  17. Please excuse my ignorance, but what is that 'Cypres load' referring to? /s [drop till you party!]
  18. That's taken from the header to this forum. Global warming is skydiving related. How much skydiving you think you're going to get done once the polar caps have melted and it's raining ALL the time? In the short term, extracting more crude oil will result in cheaper fuel prices and cheaper jump tickets, but at what price? And this is not about knocking the red, white and blue. But the USA makes up 4% of the global population and produces 25% of global industrial pollution. Every industrialized and emerging nation has contributed to this very real problem, so shouldn't ALL those countries work together to fix it? /s [drop till you party!]
  19. Couldn't agree with you more dude, well put! /s [drop till you party!]
  20. lol Now get your finger out of your arse skyhawk! /s [drop till you party!]
  21. roflmfaopimp waaaaaaaah-haaaaaaa-haaaaaaaaaa!!!! And this also explains why all aussie blokes walk and talk so funny! Oh, this is going to be SO sweet at work tomorrow morning! /s [drop till you party!]
  22. I'm interested in getting the american perspective (which most of you seem to be) on George W. Bush's refusal to adhere to the Kyoto treaty. I know he wants to burn more fossil fuel to provide places like California with more power and help Big Business (f@cking the ozone layer further). A knock-on effect might be cheaper jump tickets, but I still think every industrialized nation should be part of the Kyoto Treaty. Your thoughts please. (I have my own thoughts on what the W. stands for...)
  23. Can't we get that baby to take out George W. 'F@ck the kyoto treaty and the ozone layer' Bush as well? /s [drop till you party!]
  24. Skymama, tigra is right, your husband totally rocks! So when is he going to do his first tandem? /s [drop till you party!]
