  1. http://www.gm.com/company/corp_info/global_operations/north_america/mexi.html Link to GM's own website Read it and weep. Grant you that your Tahoe may be assembled here in the US, but a large number of parts come from a plant in Mexico. Your Silverado, built in Mexico, sorry. Your Corvette, mostly American, yet a number of parts come from Mexico. I would actually cry if they did close the Bowling Green plant as all hope would no doubt be lost if Corvettes were built anywhere but here. Also from GM's website. Arlington does not build Silverados. They build SUVs The 250-acre Arlington plant site, originally designed to assemble aircraft and automobiles, has been expanded seven times since launching operations in 1954 with nearly 600 employees on one shift. In 2003, Arlington produced more than 238,000 vehicles with an employee population of approximately 3,000 on two shifts. GM Arlington produces a variety of full-size sport utility vehicles -- the GMC Yukon, GMC Yukon XL, Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Tahoe, and Cadillac Escalade. 3. I can help you with that. Have you any interest in being a cabana boy? Depends, what's it pay. I hear Hell ain't cheap "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  4. I se where you're going. Should had waited on that Tahoe. In a few months you might be able to get it at liquidation price. Serious, take a look at the parts and the "made in stamp". Chevy as "Hecho en Mexico" all over them. Not very "American" are they. Most cars are only asembled in america. Big difference to being "made in america" By the way, I own a 57 Chevy 2 door sedan that was built on N. Broadway in St. Louis at a time when cars were actually "made in America". Not sure if I can say the same for my 80 El Camino SS. But I love her just the same. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  5. Holy popedung, St. Petey, what kinda crap is this. Took the test, looking to buy lakeside property on the lake of fire. 1.You shall have no other gods before Me. (Have you always loved God above all else?) Nope. I always give in to the Aztec Sun God each and every summer. 2.You shall not make yourself an idol. (Have you made a god in your mind that you’re more comfortable with, a god to suit yourself?) My god is far cooler than your god 3.You shall not take God’s name in vain. (Have you ever used God’s holy Name as a cuss word?) Goddamn, failed another one 4.Remember the Sabbath Day, to keep it holy. I always attend Ozfest and listen to Sabbath religously 5.Honor your father and mother. Moms cool, dad can be an asshole 6.You shall not murder. (God considers hatred to be as murder.) I hate disco (that's right disco still sucks), so send me to hell!! 7.You shall not commit adultery. (“Whoever looks upon a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart” — Matthew 5:27-28; this also includes sex before marriage). Goddamn it, failed another one 8.You shall not steal. (Have you ever stolen anything? — the value of the item is irrelevant.) I am going to have to plead the 5th on this one as anything I may say can and will incriminate me 9.You shall not lie. (Have you lied even once? Including answering these questions.) Only when forced to take the stand in court to defend myself for lying to the government 10.You shall not covet. (Have you ever jealously desired what belongs to others?) Hell yeah, who wouldn't want someones new 'vette, goddamn, what kinda question is this? Just gotta call from Hellbound realtors, seems there is some goddamn hell of a wait for the lake of fire property. She (she is hot, hot, hot) says that I am going to have to do a lot worse than this to gurantee prime realestate on the lake otherwise I am goig to have settle for something near the river styx. Goddamn it, we all know what people who live by the river are like. This just sux. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  6. A total of 14 plants are to close by 2012. 7 plants will be closed by 2008. The 7 are St. Louis, Atlanta, Wixom, Batavia, Windsor and two more to be announced later this year. I have several friends whom have already been laid off at the Hazelwood plant (St. Louis) a couple years ago when the first announcement came that this was going to happen. Then governor Jim Talent and reps from the city of Hazelwood worked a deal to keep the plant operating as a hub for a few more years. The taxpayers of Mo. have been paying a large sum of the operating cost of this plant even though a good number of people went out the door. Ford, GM, and Dodge need to get on the band wagon and produce cars that people want and quite trying to shove oversize, overpriced crap down the throats of the consumer. Honda has the number one selling truck today even though they have only been in the truck market but a year or two. Why? Because it is pure quality at a great price. Another reason is that they listen to what people want and give just that. They take care of their customers, unlike the Big 3. The last new truck I bought was a Ford. When it came time for Ford to make good on their warrenty I got blown off time and time again. When they did finally "fix" the problem it took more than 2 weeks and they did not fix the problem. I ended up buy an aftermarket part and installing it myself. I was told that doing so will void my warrenty. I told the dealer to fuck off. The same was with Jeep back in 1984. The folks I know whom have had to take a honda or whatever in to the dealership could not be happier and glad for their choice in automobile. If I am to ever buy another new car, it will not be one from the Big 3. As far as wages go the so called "foreign companies" pay the same as the so called "american companies". They also provide incentive to show up and do the best you can. A friend at the Maryville, Ohio Honda plant once talked of monthly "bonus checks" for not missing or showing late. This man left a railroad job that paid close to $50,000 in 1990 to work there. He is still there and couldn't be happier for it. It is not wages that is killing the Big 3, it is cars and trucks that are not realistic to what people want. How many people do you know whom have bought an oversize truck and only use it for the drive to work and back. I know a few and also know that they are trying to get rid of them. Good luck. Buy a Honda, it is more American than you think. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  7. I hope you are right. Yet, the prevailing attitude towards the US would predict otherwise. Many do see the US has a power hungry animal seeking world domination. Many are our friends during the day and plotting against us during the night. Another war would show who is truely loyal to the US and who is not. There is so much gradiation that it is hard to see the lines in regard to what anything is truely about. What is not hard to see is that everyone from new born babies to the oldest is involved when their is talk of NBC warfare. Iran is extremely dangerous and much more than N. Korea at this point. We have been in a standoff with Iran much like the standoff with N. Korea. I doubt that Iran has nothing but peaceful means for their nuclear ambition. Given the attitude of it's leadership, nothing good is going to come out of Iran if allowed to continue with building nuclear reactors. How the world should deal with this? No one has an answer that will satisfy everyone. There will be opposition no matter which way it goes. Me, I gotta go. Looking at an earth home this AM. Hope to be able to get it on a contingency sale of my house. Given the nuclear ambitions of our enemies, an earth home might just be the ticket "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  8. You are right that most of Europe is hoping for a non-nuclear Iran but they must also know that sanctions will push crude prices well beyond the ceiling. Iran has the upperhand in that regard. If Iran were to hold back on the flow of oil and push the price up they would quickly garner support against the US from many who are already questioning the reasons why the US invaded Iraq. http://www.iranian.com/MajidTehranian/2002/September/Oil/ Two things that are true is oil and arms, who has the most of both rules the planet. The US has the arms. The Mideast has the oil. Both want what the other has. It is a shame and disgrace to all that this is quickly spiraling into a precursor to war for whatever reason. If this does come to a conventional, or worst, NBC warfare it will change the planet and divide everyone. It will be difficult to know who is for who as loyalties will waver from one side to the other. Will the US be viewed as the greater evil or will Iran? I do believe that one thing is certian, millions will die and many more will be maimed in an all out war in the Mideast. Whether the US is justified or not it will forever be tarnished. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  9. Everything in the bible is hearsay. The books were written many years after the "facts". Stories passed down and embellished as they went. Interpeted and reinterpeted time and time again untill they are nothing but stories that hold no truth whatsoever. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  10. If all peaceful means to quench the rising threat fails, the whole world will suffer, not just Iran and the US. We should all hope that diplomacy prevails and this does not escalate to all out warfare. But history has pretty much shows that it only takes one shot and the whole thing will go up in flames. Whether or not Iran is equipped to wage NBC warfare is yet to be seen. Who wants to take the chance that they are? They have stated, much like N. Korea, when push comes to shove, they will fight to the death. This was my answer to "what then". I hope that diplomacy does prevail as a war with Iran will not be a cakewalk. The US will not waltz into Tehran like they did into Baghdad. Our armed forces have already been stretched to the limit with no end in sight in Iraq. Iraq is on the edge of civilwarfare and the US is stuck in the center of it with no way out. To cut and run would only bolster more hatred towards the US. Going into Iran any time in the future would not be wise as we are bogged down in the quaqmire that is Iraq. Considering also the regrouping of Taliban fighters in Afghanistan and the need for more US troops in that region to stem any further build up, moving troops into Iran will weaken our forces even greater (I can only imagine that this is great news to the N. Koreans). Again there will be no end in sight and no real strategy to wage war in Iran. Much as there was no real strategy in Afghanistan and Iraq. We cannot afford for any more warmongering but can afford to extend diplomacy. To be to quick to march into Iran will spark an all out war aimed at crushing the US at all cost (again, consider N. Korea). One shot started WW1 and will most likely start WW3. We may have the guns but they have the numbers. We will be in for the long, long haul if we take but only one step over the line. I think that many agree that there is a bad ("good" does not apply here) chance that this will spiral into warfare, conventional and also NBC. Glad I still have my old NBC warfare suit as I may need it eventually. Should had never turned my MK4 gas mask into a grassmask. One last toke before the vaporizing effect of the nuclear dawn... 11. This is a very interesting statement made after the Iran-Iraq war With the West’s conspicuous silence over Saddam Hussein’s use of chemical weapons against Iran, the leaders in Tehran decided that acquiring those weapons was the only means of ensuring self-defense. Shortly after the cease-fire, Akbar Hashemi- Rafsanjani, then–speaker of the Iranian parliament and commander-in-chief of Iran’s armed forces and later Iran’s president, declared: With regard to chemical, bacteriological, and radiological weapons training, it was made very clear during the war that these weapons are very decisive. It was also made clear that the moral teachings of the world are not very effective when war reaches a serious stage and the world does not respect its own resolutions and closes its eyes to the violations and all the aggressions which are committed in the battlefield. We should fully equip ourselves both in the offensive and defensive use of chemical, bacteriological, and radiological weapons. From now on you should make use of the opportunity and perform this task. (emphasis added) If all peaceful means to quench the rising threat fails, the whole world will suffer, not just Iran and the US. 12. http://www.carnegieendowment.org/pdf/npp/15-Iran.pdf#search='iranian%20nuclear%20capability' Long read but very informative on Irans capability to carry out a nuclear war "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  13. Greater diplomatic pressure? Unilateral nuclear disarment? Sanctions would only increase hatred towards the US and any country that is in bed with the US, not to mention what it would do to the worlds energy source. Past millitary actions against Iran as proved to be futile. We had a major chance in the early 80's and walked away. I was there during the build up in 1980-81. It was haze grey as far as the eye could see in the IO. We did nothing but sit while Iran waited. We gave support to Iraq during the Iran-Iraq war and, well, we all know what came of that. There is no doubt that Iran is a powder keg poised to go off if touched the wrong way. How it is touched needs to be examined carefully so not to start what could quickly escalate to nuclear war not only with Iran but the other threat, N. Korea, whom is just waiting to bite. I believe that the leadership of our country has been blind for the last 25 years or more by "American Pride". To proud to say they screwed up. To many with the "America, love it or leave it" attitude. America cease being the America during WW2 shortly after said war. We are not loved by many and many from other countries here at SC aknowledge this fact. I doubt anyone has a clear cut idea on how to deal with the mounting threats of our world. It is becoming dangerously unstable and more so each and every day. Flat out waging war on Iran will, without doubt, start an all out war on the US and its supporters. What has happened since the invasion on Iraq will look like just kids fighting in a sandbox. Saddam, who is not very religous in the way most muslims are, is not very well liked by anyone in the Mideast and most really didn't give a damn. Iran is completely different and have support by a high number of Islamic states thus giving them the upperhand in the Mideast on all sides. Something needs to be done and quick, but extremely carefully. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young

  15. Yup, we quickly took care of business in Afghanistan and even quicker in Iraq. Yup, complete victory. They rolled over and shook our hands as they were trembling at the omnipotent force of the millitary. Going to war with Iran would not be a wise move. As invading Iraq is, for the most, a failure. Invading Iran would, most likely, spark an all out war against the US. Unless you have not noticed, the US is not at all popular in the Mideast. Invading a country, Iraq, that was not a threat made the US an even tastier target. Invading Iran would awaken sleeper cells world wide and start a bloodbath. Most actions against Iran would not be good for anyone. Sanctions would cripple the world as stemming the flow of crude would push oil prices well over $100.00 a barrel and bring most countries, namely the US, to a grinding halt. The US is already pushed to the limit, millitary wise, and would be in further jeopardy of another enemy, N. Korea, if they were to attack Iran, thus thinning it's millitary capabilities even more. To believe that attacking such a country as Iran would be an easy task is foolish and dangerous when you consider the fact that the Iraqies who have been fighting the US has been doing so with very little and causing major damage to the so called "coalition". Iran is far greater equipped and has greater backing to take on an US invasion. War with Iran? Be real, wake up and look at Iraq and Afghanistan. Nothing quick there. 19. Better yet, how about a cage match where they have to hit the baseballs at each other? Last man standing wins. Castro may have been a slugger, but he's old, so it could be a good match... _____________________________________ A cage grudge match! We can get Don King to promote it! 22. To think that there was not a non-lethal method to bring an end to this is crazy. To think that the cop could not had got a good look at the pistol through his high-power scope is also crazy. I would think that there were plenty of ways for this to have a better ending. "Peaceful"jeffery, you do seem to show abit to much glee in the suffering and death of others. All to often the first course of action is to kill and then negotiate. Throw out the rubber bullets and pass the hollow points. The police need to revamp the way they handle particular situations as they seem to handle them all with a one size fits all mentality. Bullet to the head, job well done. Bullshit. Anyone here who has kids, would you be happy that the cops took a killshot instead of a wounding shot if it were your child holding that BB gun? No you would not. You would have a completely different view. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young

  24. Far more than combatants are killed in war. Sarah, it seems that you have forgotton about the collaterals. The innocent children, mothers and fathers and all the people who are there to help those who are injured due to collateral damage. When you say "war is a different story" what type of war are you refering to. All wars? Or, a particular kind of war? In my opinion, as is that of like minded people, war is nothing but a death machine and does not discriminate. Anyone or anything in its path will feel its wrath. By unleashing this machine, man is playing "god" and using this power to take the lives of many who are not the objective of the conflict. The death penalty has handed down to many in Iraq when Bush decided to invaded and occupy. It is the screwed up mentality of a nation that views killing in one fashion to be good and the opposite in another. I have stated before that I have no solid view one way or the other on the death penalty. If a person was to be convicted for killing my family members, I would much rather they do solitary confinement untill death. Yet, I would not fight the state to keep that person alive. I would want that person to suffer. Anyways, it turned out that Roger Coleman was guilty. They should test many others where there is doubt and put some minds to ease.
