    I'm an Airspeed fan too (just not in front of John) Seriously he is a hell of an upstanding guy and is always willing to teach (no matter what your asking about).     That is how I got all 3 pairs of mine sized up (gotta love the "army issue"). I use mine to jump, shoot, drive, run and any other military activity or civilian activity and like them better than the plastic Oakleys we used to get.     Deployment is usually the only time smoke burns a canopy (if it is used in freefall of course). If your only going to use the smoke under canopy you can delay ignition till after deployment. No matter what technique you use you will have to be carefull with the "slag" or "embers" falling down to the crowd and property below. The higher the smoke is ingnited the coller the slag and embers are when they land. I always try my best to seta pattern up away from the crowd and flamable property, but in a good line of sight for the crowd to see.     AAC is a very viable freefall simulator! I havea few minutes there (OK 12+ hours) and it works for military, civilian, belly, HD etc. etc. And the view is awesome! An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

    Our Team uses the 395 and we tend to do a 2 stage flare. Stage 1 is the "surf" and stage 2 is the "finish". We don't do any thing to increase our landing speed (ie hook turns or stall/surge).     I was actually told the same thing in my FJC, a few moons ago. It was "oh shit, oh shit, oh shit, Flare". Stood them all up until I got a little to confident, then I crashed few times (and many more since then). An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

    Some of my Students have gone from FJC t o"D" license in 9 months (with the new 500 jumps standard). It took me 18 months. But we jump all week, for our jobs, so it is a big advantage. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
