BOD Meeting Notes for July 2006
matthewcline replied to MikeTJumps's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
As a military jumper from a military team, I can attest that near all of us are members of USPA already. Is the BOD asking to silicite the studenst at the Jump school? If you get the Magazine in the AAFES system you'll grab a few subsriptions and new members that way But since Army Regulations have the smaller Teams following the USPA rules (including Membership) and I am sure the other services are simular this may not be a high retirn for the effort. If USPA helped to re-open the Sport Parachute Activities then it would probably add 1000's of new members a year or if USPA activley campained around Military Instalations with DZ's you could grab a whole new membership! I know the DZ near us that just re-openned is working on just that. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!! -
I posted the DZ re-openning in events and places. It was quiet but fun day there today. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

Tandems - What do you do up there behind your student?
matthewcline replied to Fast's topic in Instructors
I try to so the same basic thing each time and allow the video to focus on the Student, it is after their jump they payed for. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!! -
Except it has happened. I have watched this thread with a bit of a chuckle all the way. Mathematically maybe it can't happen. Realistically it does. Parachuutes have failed, "blown up", period. It happened becuase they where used out side the parameters the ywhere certified for. The one I had fail was inside all parameters but deployment speed. It could not take 220 lbs exit weight at 160mph. The openning did not hurt more than any other brisk openning, the canopy failed before full openning shock could be transfered to my body. There have been reserve failures, "blow ups", documented in Parachutist and Skydiving magazine. Based on my personnal experience and the written reports I have seen I do not feel it is a myth. But like you I could be wrong, I am Human after all. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

Skydive Paris of Paris TN has been allowed back on the Airport!!!! The FAA Ordered the Management of the Airport to do so now or pay it all back! (2 years of Federal airport funding). If your in the west TN, KY area and can show some support drop but for a jump and show the Airport we are a civiliazed bunch. Bring a Tandem and I am sure you will make a free jump. Before the DZ was pushed off, it was common to see SL, AFF and Tandem Students preping for a jump on any given day. You would also see Coaches, CReW, vRW, bRW and an occasional wing suit. After jumping folks would hang out and cook a bit as well as continue to pass along any bit of info that could help a new or old jumper out. So come out and tell the DZO "Welcome Home"! (It will put a smile on his face). An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

The end of an era- Skydive Monroe
matthewcline replied to dbattman's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Damn that sucks. Monroe was my home DZ away from home when I was stationed at Benning. My first CASA, King Air, Twin Otter jumps, all happened there. My BIC Course was there. I did my first "bigger" ways there (bigger than 4 way). I met a few frineds and re-met even more there over the 4 years I was around the DZ. Sad story to hear. Do ya want me to bring a Tandem 360 to jump some more? How about a new cross braced 107 from FCI? The 107 is a lot of fun and I hear your a fan of the 360. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

I did the race thing for over 6 years in NC. Put the old pipe back on since you'll end up on it at least once a season. Once your down a few times then put a new one on and have a bigger ball of fun. Just being realistic, hell the pros have more falls than wins (except maybe Fast Freddie Spencer and Eddie Lawson) If any one raced in cali in the mid 80's I had a 600 Ninja that was primer gray for 2 seasons, crash, repair, prep, race, repeat. Didn't make sence to repaint it right away. But in NC I had good looking rides, it was about looking cool as well as being good. I never got that good so moved back to recreational riding (while looking good thought!). But now I do do any extreme stuff. An Instructors first concern is student safety. nice little low side from a bit early on the throttle? At least you had what appears to be a soft fall and short tumble. Did the bike stay on its right side and just slide? Ya gatta love full leathers and all the padding/armor. Glad your ok and glad your smart and did that on a closed course. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

Of course my self and the family will be in and out. But I can eat for 3 at all times if it helps your planning. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

Highest speed you have experienced on wheels?
matthewcline replied to btwitche1975's topic in The Bonfire
180+ on a VFR1000R in race spec trim. I was racing as a member of WERA (Western Eastern Roadracing Association) at was testing on practice day for the Rockingham Race. I could only do around 150 in the banked turn and had to use all the engine to max it out before I grabbed a 4 finger hand full of brakes for the infield series. Same track I had one of my best tumbles. But that is a different story. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!! -
Thanks. From the office all I could get was the home page that is closed. The link got me in to the old page. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

Hey all, if I could have a moment. I have just co-authored an article on skydiving to be run in our post paper the Fort Campbell Courier. But I don't have any good quality pics for the article. I am looking for large, good quality shots of; an AFF exit (LVL 1 or 2) an AFF (LVL 1 or 2) freefall head on a Tandem exit a Tandem freefall a Tandem landing Staticline exit solo student landing and student training (Type of FJC is not important) Any shots used would get full credit in the article (Photographer and DZ location of course) and I will try to get a copy of the article to any one who has a photo used. I am not a paid writer (can you tell), I am doing this as a favor for the soldiers on post who have been asking me a lot lately about skydiving and how to get started. Feel free to send the photos to my e-mail; matthew.sean.cline@campbell.army.mil or matthew.sean.cline@us.army.mil Thank You for your consideration, An Instructors first concern is student safety.
