  1. We all have stability issues whe nwe start. Eventually we can leave in any orientation stable (dive poise sit etc.) the deployemtn should be properly oriented to avaoid the issue you pointed out (horse shoe). But we do not get there with out practice. Next time it is a low day but high enough for you to jump, jump. You can also use it for canopy control and statistically we all can use that. 2. Read it again, Gary did it after the legal issue went away and used it as a chance to drive home a point. Pathetic? No, Smart, he made his point the lesson (I hope) was learned with no long term legal issues. Weather we agree with what he did or not, we are all learning some thing from this, what that is, is up to each of us. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  3. I asked the Nashville FSDO office about that, for thier understanding on the FAR's and TSO's. Thier take; It is illegal and NOT waiverable, to jump non-TSO'd gear and/or not have a dual parachute harness conatiner, from an aircraft. A balloon is an Aircraft as far as the FAA feels. The FSDO went on to say if the rig was TSO'd and had a reserve, have fun, BUT watch the special provisions and deployment altitudes (he figured this was a specific event and would have a 7711-2 and -1 on file), this may or may not apply, it would be a WFFC staff question to answer. Safety wasn't a real issue. Legality is/was. Plus, I think it was defined as a legal issue when the FAA rep addressed the jumper in question and any argument against that is pointless, the enforcment authority made thier presence known (yes, at a skydivers request) I support Gary for using the FAA rep, once he knew the jumper would face no real legal issue, but to help drive home the point of legal or not. We may not like it but we who ARE members of USPA agreed to it in theory and the FAA has pretty much let us handle it. In my opinion it is better Gary handled it than the Local DA. 4. A friend of mine when he was stationed in Hawaii got ticketed (the whole load he said). He finally won his case in court but it cost him around $15,000. Before you say "pay the fine" and move on, apparently it is more than just a fine that hurts you. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  5. Hey hey I got 1 right! Hey, Bk how about a GK 4-way update? (maybe in another thread since this is Greg's CISM thread) An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  6. Well didn't some of the new Iraqi govenrment say they wanted the US out now and they support the religous resistors (or some thing like that)? I do not think we have the whole hearted support of most of Iraq. But what do I know I only went there twice for over 18 months. An Instructors first concern is student safety. 7. Bill, Timmermans book has the claim from Iran (about Bin Laden) and it is quoted in the Intel references in the appendix. The book "Guests of the Ahyatolla" (sp) written by the gentleman who wrote "Blackhawk Down" (his name excapes me at the moment) has some referances to the same subject too. And his claim (backed by some Gov folks from the time and current in history) is the Religious leadership of Iran declared the war on the West prior to the hostage taking and has built on the goal of Islamic world rule ever since. Kallend, Kelpdiver N.Korea did a test of a nuke delivery missile a while back (10 years?). Iran made the statement about thier Nuke program and its abilities. Iran may not be completely truthful but Interpol, the IAEA and several EU country Intel organizations all beleive them to be right. That is one of the reasons France re-aimed thier weapons. Additionally Russia, China and N.Korea all admitted to the assitance they gave Iran over the last 25+ years. Of course France, Germany, the UK, the US and others all help out in some way at some time too. I actually agree with the three of you on many of your points (I hold no political party affiliation but if I was to be "labeled" I suppose I would be a moderate) and see this as a lagitamate world concern. Iran and the US simular? I think there are a few differences Prof. that make our ideas a little less scary. One being the destruction of a country just because a book is misread. I also don't think Iran and Iraq can't be a good comparison, yes we did befriend Saddam, but not the current Iranian regime. What assiatnce we did give them was prior to the ruler change and the knowledge has just been kept and passed along. Where as in Iraq we helped and then we had a problem, much like Panama a few years ago. Its just my opinion. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

  9. Well Gen. Powell did say that was his intent when he took the job
  10. I see a rift in the Marriage already! Who is the better "sitter" Congrats! Chears to many years! An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  11. Yep, same regime. Well, not exacly the same regime. The current regime hasn't been an allie as far as I know. But ealier in time yes, Iran was an allie. A few months after the arrest they hosted Bin Laden and a few of his top aides for a planing meeting on Iraq and future atacks against the US and Isreal. Hezbala was represented too. They (Iran) facilitated his move to Pakistan, he could not move through the country with out the approval of the Regime. Iran has aplan of some sort and in thier mind they are the #1 right country and all others are wrong. The yhope that other Islamic Nations will soon follow suit. We (the US) focused on the wrong country in 2002 and 2003. But we all know that as it is painfully obvious in hind sight. An Instructors first concern is student safety. 12. Eric, I never said Style was easy! Hell it is to hard for my ass to get into that damn suit! I bet you "rooked marvelous" (use that Billy Crytal voice) in it though. Glad to hear you all had a good showing, hopefully it was fun too! Dan, maybe a CISM world record? An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  13. I am refering to the open and large support and harboring of Bin Laden and his Terror group. But Iran considers Isreal and the US as one. We have been pretty closly linked, but I myself don't call us "as one". Iran has sent many of ther "Special Forces" to Iraq with specific orders to attack US forces, orders issued prior to the US actually crossing out of Kuwait in 2003. Some Iranian soldiers actually happened to be in front of us as we reached Najaf and B-dad. Iran may hold back since 2 Eurpean nations have re-aimed their Nukes and now Iran is the bulls eye. But a small Nuke is some thing they are working on with the idea of short range delivery (i.e. ship board short range from say 20 miles off the east coast at DC). Nothing really new, just not widely reported. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  14. Bill can you give them a better demeaning slur? The 101st shouldn't be attached in such a stigmatic manner. Tunnel carpal is not a wound most of the wounded in the 101st would mind getting over what they did get. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  15. The Sec Def did all the "retiring" of smarter men (the Generals who said More time and more men to prepare) the nhe paraphrased and did not fully disclosed the advice to the POTUS. But the POTUS should have done more work on his own. The Sec Def is a carreer political appointie, and only says and does what he needs to keep getting apointed and the nkeep the appointement. His "civilianizing" has cost the military billions, but no one is complaining out side of the military since they are being paid. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  16. Read "Countdown to Crisis" by Ken Timmerman. In his book he has copies of plenty of Iranian Intel Documents that state (in his interpretation); Iran already has Nuclear Weapons wit hthe range to wipe outIsreal and reach Eurpoe. Iran as late as 2005 hosted Bin Laden and continues to fund and aide his organization. Iran has funded, trained and advised Hezbala (Iranian soldiers have been identified post mortem in Lebanon, as reported in the national media) Iran has in the past, and even as recent as last year at an address in NY at the UN, stated the desire to aide terroists in the distrcution of Isreal and America and "her Imperialistic Infidel allies". Reading that book, plus many others and the Intel my job allows me to see, I say we actually did get attacked by Iran, although through a proxy force. Much like we hoped to accomplish in Cuba, Nicaragua, El Salvador and in Asia. Iran is probably the biggest Radical Ilsam run country in the world and in my opinion the worlds biggest danger. 17. Well the Director of MWR said "no", when I asked if I could start the club back up. I had a pretty low cost method for them but alas I am not as good at persuading as I thought. Call me at the office (270)798-4267 or come down and see me and Iwill give you the low down. Just go to the Air Assault School and ask for SFC Cline, the Chief of Pathfinder Branch (its the office with all the skydiving photos, cheerleaders {I like my job} jump suits on the door and rigs piled up in the corner. Welcome to "Tuckassee".
  18. Glad to hear your doing well. How long will this put you on the ground? A short time I hope. Who gets to fill your wings for the time being? Do you have any other insite/final standings to add to what Chris had posted earlier? You look shorter than I remeber in your avatar. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  19. Seriously? A person who followed the law is to be shunned? I do not doubt base gears safety (I only have 1 BASE jump from a Bridge). It may not be unsafe to jump a base rig from a Balloon, until it mals. It is not legal though and is it worth causing aPilot to lose his/her Certificate, your money and time in court to do some thing "cool"? Mr. Peek did nothing wrong legally or morally. Although not every one will agree. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  20. Maybe he should. Being safety concious is nothing to be scoffed at. You have heard the saying invovling old and bold? He did the Hard Right thing, weather you agree or not. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  21. Gary, Some will tell you to get your nose out of thier business, I will tell Good Job. We as a group (at least in the US) have pledged to be self policing. We can do a better job of it. It may be hard to be right. But in all cases it is better to be right than dead. Mr. Peek, I salute you for your efforts in safety and education. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  22. A bit of a side bar here. I teach that in an emergancy to exit stable and deploy with out delay. It is better to let the A/C have all the altitude below you to make his emergancy landing. It would suck to do a delay and meet a plane who is having an issue after salely saving your life once already. This is also how we brief our folks here on Campbell, Para Demo jumpers, Tactical jumpers and Fun Jumpers. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  23. Well that is what Bill and Ted told me whe nour team purchased one a few years ago. It would make sense for jumpers to get practice on cutaways with out the preasure of a real malfunction. The handle locations on the Tridom are for T-I candidates so it is a bit off for the "average" jumper who is just looking for experience. It would probably not help to change set proceedures unless that person is planning on being a Tandem Instructor in the near future. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  24. Maybe I am missing some thing, but how is a 2.5 or 2k exit in violation of a BSR? Are you assuming a delay? Just trying to follow the discussion and I am trying to see each point of view. But I am a great fan of Hop 'n Pops and have a hundred plus from 2k/2.5k. When trained on and practiced they are no more dangerous than a solo from 14k. And having had to get out 4 jumpers in a C-182 at 2.2k in an emergancy (with a brand new "A" license holder too) it proved life saving for 5 folks. The plane glided to a safe landing with out the 700 to 800 lbs of weight on board. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
