Ahh! I thought maybe you landed on a yellow fire-hydrant or something. The slider theory makes a lot more sense. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

Is that really you? What is that yellow thing? I wish I had a picture of me hung-up in a forest on my second AFF jump. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

I dream pretty frequently. I had a really bad dream last night.. I was walking around campus (which had been taken over by skydivers) and I looked up to watch someone who was jumping, and then they went in with nothing out about 5 feet from me. The person I was talking to had to run out of the way to not get squished. What a crap dream! "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

I think that living in New York and being into PR are a lot crazier sounding than that.. But that's just my opinion. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

I'm a fox.. I was really hoping to be a river otter though, those things are cute! "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

I've always thought that I wanted to be cremated and then have my ashes spread somewhere.. but you make a really good point about seeing the body. I really feel like with the caravan crash, it would have been helpful to have that to be able to accept it. Unfortunately that wasn't even an option in that case. Hoorray for being done! I've got my last final today and then I will be almost done with my first quarter of grad school. I should probably go study now... "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

Wow.. 29,000 posts. That is a lot. And I feel like I post on here too much! "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

Have you learned how to spell "distrot" in the last 6 years? Edited to add: We've both been around here for a pretty long time! You've only got me beat by 3 months!

I once knew a guy that had neuticles put into his dog. I think that guy had too much money. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

When I first started doing tandem videos I had several tandem students (guys) inquire about whether I used my camera helmet as a bedroom toy! 6 1/2 years in the sport and I never even considered other possibilities! You may not want to disclose the gender for HIPPA reasons, perhaps? Although I don't think that it is considered identifying information, perhaps in certain situations it could be. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

This has nothing to do with yours.. but for years I've struggled with the fact that the word "data" is plural. When I write reports I always have to double check my grammar by replacing the word "data" for "tables". I'm weird, huh? What birthday traditions made you feel special?
karenmeal replied to windcatcher's topic in The Bonfire
My mom made the birthday cake of our choice and we got to pick how it was decorated. My mom would ask us a week or two in advance, and draw up some sketches for our approval. -
Then there are skydiving chicks who won't even date non-skydivers. Heck, I'm not even sure I would date a belly-flyer! Freefly all the way. Doing it horizontal style is for the ground. -Karen "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

I took it about a year ago and did pretty well. My advice (considering the fact that you have limited time): -Study for the math portion. I feel that it is easier to cram and boost your score here than in the verbal section. Memorize some formulas, find a book with a quick review section for crammers like yourself. (I liked the complete idiot's guide to the GRE.) -Review the roots and prefixes/suffixes of words. When you get totally stumped, revert to your knowledge of the building blocks of words. -Review a book's coaching on the analogy portion. There should be good tips about recognizing verbs, nouns and what not. I encountered a few verbal questions where I had never seen the word in my life, but I was able to fall back on basic knowledge of recognizing nouns and verbs. -The GRE folks have a list of prompts online. Review those and have a basic idea of what to expect. Study books will give you a guide for answering questions. I came prepared to the test with a formula that I would use including an intro and concluding sentence where I could plug things in, as well as a really good idea of the structure that I would use to write with. (Five paragraphs, first sentence of each paragraph is xxx....) (And I got a 5.5 on this part.) here is a link to topics: http://www.ets.org/portal/site/ets/menuitem.1488512ecfd5b8849a77b13bc3921509/?vgnextoid=6a9ca76d0edd5010VgnVCM10000022f95190RCRD&vgnextchannel=06c7e3b5f64f4010VgnVCM10000022f95190RCRD I would browse the ETS website for good info. Umm... that is it! Good luck. It'll be done quickly once you get in there. As with a lot of stuff, the build-up prior to the actual event is the hardest part. -Karen "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

I lived with this crazy married couple in a double wide on a DZ for a while. I never got a long with them.. ..but now they are both in jail for the murder of the girl's disabled mom!!!!! Someone Help me. I'm pulling my hair trying to format a fucking header for a group paper, this is what is keeping me from going to bed! I never can figure these out. All I want is for the cover page to say: Hearing Impairment i and all other pages to say: Hearing Impairment 1, 2, 3, etc. How do I do this? the help function is of no use to me. I've tried. Here is one I love of my dog. We got out of the car on our way to go snowshoeing to put chains on and he rolled around in the snow like a puppy for the first time in months. He is totally smiling in this picture!! "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

You obviously didn't read my other posts. I'm not suprised by the fact that there is a lawsuit because lawsuits crop up for every little thing now a days. This was a big thing that happened so I fully expected to see a lawsuit. It's just the way of our culture whether we like it or not. Whether or not a lawsuit is justified in my mind: if there is found to be a plane problem that Cessna knew about and didn't address, then they should change things. Paying money out is not a way to change things and it won't actually bring the family any comfort. But.. to large corporations who are (legally required to be) driven by one thing: the bottom line, then the only way to instigate change at the corporate level is through monetary accountability. I know that the most likely cause of the crash (because it's the most likely cause of most general aviation crashes) is simply an error in pilot judgement. In that case, sueing will do absolutely no good as it's too late to teach Phil a lesson and it would have nothing to do with the make or model of the plane. In that scenario the most hopeful outcome is that pilots will learn something from this accident or at the very least, what they already know will be emphasized. I want at least something positive to come out of this crash. That's all I've ever wanted when I've lost friends to this sport. (Current tally of friends lost: 16 - don't tell me I don't know about the realities of this sport and I'm only 24.) As far as me not belonging in the sport, I completely belong in this sport. If you knew me at all you would never think that I should not jump at a dropzone for any reason. I am a very conscientious skydiver and I try to bring positive change to every dropzone that I jump at. I have explicitly told my family that if I die in the sport they are not to sue, I have a great relationship with my family and I feel extremely confident that my wishes would be carried out in the case of my death in the sport. My only point in my posts was to say I could see a certain scenario (albeit a very unlikely one) in which a lawsuit could instigate positive change. But to be realistic, that is not the case here and the lawsuit is very likely uncalled for. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

I didn't think that you are patronizing me- you're just apparently much more knowledgeable about these sorts of things than I am. But I'm trying to learn. I just want to be clear that I am not a lawsuit happy sort of person and I think that quite often a lawsuit is the least likely solution for a problem. However, in cases where negligence exists, it could be the catalyst that spurs changes and prevents future incidents.
