Yes. I remember one time in particular when I did a belly jump after a couple hundred freefly jumps in a row. I just couldn't get my breath with all that wind in my face! I wasn't used to it. Sure I'm always on my belly for a little bit at deployment, but only a very little bit as I typically back track away and then flip over. CDC: Up to 6 million swine flu cases in few months
karenmeal replied to warpedskydiver's topic in Speakers Corner
Yes a third weren't subtyped. But if you understood just basic statistics and science, you would understand that you can still conclude that there is a very high likelihood that the remaining third would all be h1n1. As far as actual impact of the swine flu vs. random choking deaths.. there is no question that the swine flu is having a wide influence on people across the country. I work at an outpatient rehabilitation clinic that includes physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. At our clinic we have had cancellation rates of 70% some days due to the flu and on average over the past month or two about 30% cancellation. This is much higher than is normal for this time of year. Due to this, employees have been asked to voluntarily reduce the number of hours they work until census improves. All of the employees received the h1n1 vaccine about a week ago as did the high risk patients that we have. I am hoping in a week or two the infection rate begins to drop in our community with the provision of vaccines. Then we can all go back to working our 40 hours. Here is what the CDC has to say in response to your question: Can people receiving the nasal-spray flu vaccine LAIV (FluMist®) pass the vaccine viruses to others? In clinical studies, transmission of vaccine viruses to close contacts has occurred only rarely. The current estimated risk of getting infected with vaccine virus after close contact with a person vaccinated with the nasal-spray flu vaccine is low (0.6%-2.4%). Because the viruses are weakened, infection is unlikely to result in influenza illness symptoms since the vaccine viruses have not been shown to mutate into typical or naturally occurring influenza viruses. But seriously, cdc.gov. Good stuff there. Here are some more samples of good, evidence-based answers to your questions. Can the nasal spray flu vaccine give you the flu? Unlike the flu shot, the nasal spray flu vaccine does contain live viruses. However, the viruses are attenuated (weakened) and cannot cause flu illness. The weakened viruses are cold-adapted, which means they are designed to only cause infection at the cooler temperatures found within the nose. The viruses cannot infect the lungs or other areas where warmer temperatures exist. Some children and young adults 2-17 years of age have reported experiencing mild reactions after receiving nasal spray flu vaccine, including runny nose, nasal congestion or cough, chills, tiredness/weakness, sore throat and headache. Some adults 18-49 years of age have reported runny nose or nasal congestion, cough, chills, tiredness/weakness, sore throat and headache. These side effects are mild and short-lasting, especially when compared to symptoms of influenza infection. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham -

http://www.cdc.gov/flu/weekly/ Scroll down to "US Virologic Surveillance" and you will find this information: Week 41 No. of specimens tested 12,943 No. of positive specimens (%) 4,855 (37.5%) Positive specimens by type/subtype Influenza A 4,844 (99.8%) A (2009 H1N1) 3,378 (69.7%) A (subtyping not performed) 1,436 (29.6%) A (unable to subtype) 30 (0.6%) A (H3) 0 (0.0%) A (H1) 0 (0.0%) Influenza B 11 (0.2%) You may notice that for the most recent week that data are available, no other types of influenza A were detected. Close to a third (29.6% + 0.6%) of influenza A results were not subtyped. However, it is unlikely that many or any of those 32.2% of non-subtyped influenza A results would be anything but swine/h1n1 flu. But I'm sure you'll just say that Obama made this stuff up... Edited to add: This information was posted previously but obviously not read and/or understood. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham -

So, have you had it or gotten vaccinated for it? I just got my vaccination yesterday, but since I got the flu this summer I think I probably had it. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

Just curious how many people on here have been affected. The swine flu just got to my small town and it has been amazing how fast it spreads! And yes - I know it's technically called h1n1 now - but "swine flu" is just catchier. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

Once I contacted L&B because my protrack was going through batteries really fast. They told me that is was because I wasn't using their recommended type of battery. Easy enough fix. But then- they asked for my address and express shipped me probably about 20 sets of batteries free!! I was very impressed with that and passed them out to all the L&B users at my DZ. If you like canopy stuff, maybe a sunset cross country with all of your buddies and some beer under canopy. For my 1,000th I has head-down in the center of a freefly campfire (~10 people or so) and I went around to each person and high-fived, kissed, whatever. It was awesome! As a first-time home buyer you've got a month and a half left to get a free $8,000. (Deadline = November 30) With that program you have to live in the home for 3 years to keep the money. Interest rates are still super lower too. I just got 5.00%. This is also a great time to get an affordable home. We got our dream home when we purchased a couple weeks ago. The seller was desperate, interest rates were low and we almost have 20% equity in the house starting out! "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

Shoot! They had some stuff on there about how she would eat her children to advance herself. The back and forth was going on for days on Wiki with some really funny stuff that I think was written by the university's professors. Yeup, getting it. I work in health care plus I have asthma. Although, I think there is a good chance I've already had it, never got tested though since whatever I had didn't get too serious. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

Hey folks, My brother is a glider pilot and is going home to visit the folks in southwestern Virginia and to do some soaring. He needs someone to pack his pilot rig before a glider competition. If anyone is interested in some work, message me your contact info and I'll put him in touch. Thanks, Karen "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

I'm sorry. Our dog died at home last week too. It's rough, they really are members of the family. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham -
While I have to agree to some extent... my insurance coverage is a ~200 page book that I am not about to memorize. Plus, policies change all the time and insurance companies aren't required to provide notification of this. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

I'm sensing a crack choir song in the making..... To the tune of "Wind Beneath My Wings" Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. It must have been crazy on that skydive, Someone fell on poor Jim Lennox's head Knocked unconscious - his world was fading, Then John Mitchell fucking saved the day. So he was the one with all the glory, While Jim was the one with a head injury. Now John Mitchell says that it was nothing, But this man's a shit hot AAD. John Mitchell knows that he's our hero, He's everything a jumper should be. His wife is a babe and he's a hero, Raise a glass to the Prairie King. Here he is stabilizing his arm in freefall. I was motioning the entire skydive for him to open up his arms! "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

The details of the freefall collision are unclear - collision due to a funnel is the most likely bet that I've heard. The jumper told me that he woke up under an open parachute thinking, "This isn't Ritzville." He was aware enough under canopy to follow other jumpers down and land safely. He appeared to be doing OK today, but decided to stay on the ground for the rest of the boogie. The jumper did have an AAD, but I think having someone like John take care of business for you is a much better scenario. Hands-down, my favorite picture from the boogie. Very happy tandem student despite a shoulder dislocation in freefall. He requested multiple times that I keep filming. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
