I'm definitely not saying folks in healthcare should have to work on a volunteer basis! I just think hospitals should be non-profit organizations. I believe that the for-profit status of insurance companies and some healthcare facilities has significantly reduced quality of patient care. I work at a hospital - it is a "charitable public-benefit corporation" and I think that it makes a big difference to the patients, and the staff. Hey! I think I've had that same (or a very similiar) surgery! Now that knee is my strong knee! This is a good time to pick up some low key hobbies that you can handle on the couch. Knitting, painting, putting together puzzles, playing poker, popping pills... Good luck with recovery. I'm very excited about backpacking in Colorado! I love that high alpine feel. I also am looking forward to being above tree level! I haven't done much of that. You'll have to point Jeff and I in the direction of some nice loop trips.

I LOVE snow! I miss living in a place where you don't have to drive to see snow. I hope as soon as we get there a blizzard hits! As far as the internship, it is at Longmont United Hospital. I will be learning the ropes of medical speech-language pathology. When I finish my internship in June, I will be trying to find a job in the same area and setting. I mostly complete my courses this quarter. I'll have some very easy credits and a part-time internship next quarter, but I don't count that. With regards to the sun... we currently live near Bellingham, WA. Believe it or not, the weather is worse here than in Seattle. That includes a summer of approximately 2 weeks and rain and gloom the rest of the year. It is perpetually miserable outside and is majorly getting in the way of our outdoor hobbies. I just accepted an internship position at a hospital in Longmont, CO and we're moving there March 25th! I've experienced getting two puppies - brother and sister- at the same time. I say get one! Training two dogs is not twice as hard as one, requiring twice as much time... it's exponentially more difficult! Get one, and when that dog is trained (maybe a year old) then get a second dog if you still want another. Way easier that way, and bonding between you and the dogs will be better. Our two dogs bonded to each other, and really didn't need us except for dinner time. This was despite us taking the pups to obedience school (twice) and on long daily walks. Sloshball For Life - Mt. Vernon, WA - July 5

FYI... Here is how sloshball is played: It's like softball except that a whiffle ball and big huge plastic bat are used. A keg is placed at second base and players who get to second base must chug a beer (or root beer) before proceeding to third base. Up to three players are allowed at second base, so you get a bit of time to drink your beer. A player can be out by someone catching a ball, four strikes (c'mon, you'll be buzzed), being hit by the whiffle ball below the waist, or if you pass out. Sloshball For Life - Mt. Vernon, WA - July 5

Hey folks, As a fundraiser for relay for life, we'll be playing SLOSHBALL FOR LIFE at Mt. Vernon this upcoming July 5. As we all know in Western Washington, July 5 is the first day of summer. So come on out, do some jumps earlier in the day and then join our sloshball game at around 6:00. It will cost $10 to play sloshball, with money going to relay for life after the cost of the Keg is covered. You will be welcome to donate more money if you would like. I'll also be putting on a BBQ (potato salad, burgers, hot dogs, cupcakes..) which will be $10 as well. So come on out to the brand new Interstate Skydivers Club and see the new facilities located at Mt. Vernon, WA at Barker field. I know that on VW diesels you can add a conversion kit and run on straight veggie oil (I would hazard an unknowledgeable guess that olive oil would also work) once the engine is heated up enough until about a mile before you hit your destination. My boyfriend is going to be putting this conversion kit on his car in the next couple of months. He plans to get waste oil, filter it, and have pretty much free fuel!
