  1. I've finally decided that I need one. Now which one? I would like to get the cheapest one possible... if there are no compelling reasons to go with a higher end type. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  2. Wooohooo!!! I have no more non-Lost Prairie related things to do before we leave tomorrow morning! Wooohooo! Drinking some Moose Drool right now to set the mood. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

  4. I had to take it not that long ago... less than a year. They should mail you some prep software when you register for the test. I bought a workbook to prepare with, I think it was called the complete idiots guide to the GRE or something like that. It was a really helpful book, especially because it was written with a good sense of humor. My advice is to review all the math stuff because it is really easy to boost your score there. For the vocab, start learning morphemes. A bank of essay questions is posted on the official GRE website. Definitely browse through those. I actually liked the essay part. For the opinion essay you will get to choose between two prompts (my optins were both "profound" quotes) and then you get to say why you agree or disagree. For the argument analysis they will give you an article type thing and you have to analyze where leaps of logic were made in the article. I thought the argument analysis part was reaaally easy. Link to the essay questions: http://www.ets.org/portal/site/ets/menuitem.1488512ecfd5b8849a77b13bc3921509/?vgnextoid=6a9ca76d0edd5010VgnVCM10000022f95190RCRD&vgnextchannel=06c7e3b5f64f4010VgnVCM10000022f95190RCRD It is helpful to learn about how the computer testing differs from paper testing. It is adaptive, so the early questions make a larger impact on your final score than the later questions. Weird stuff. 5. Yeah, I agree that in most job interview situations that would be true. However, he has told me the oddest things about how a SouthWest interview is conducted. Kind of like being surrounded by secret spies who are there to test you all day long. He said that there are a variety of situations that they will put you in and then gauge your response. For example, they show you a picture of the CEO dressed in drag and ask you for some sort of comment. You're supposed to laugh.. not laughing is bad. Sounds like a reaaally weird process, don't know how much is true. But given how much this company values a sense of humor, I figure he should have an arsenal of good jokes ready. 6. Ok.. I could search the threads, or I could ask you all for some jokes. My brother has an interview with SouthWest airlines on Wednesday and needs some good jokes that he can tell. So anyone have some good, clean jokes that are devoid of sexual, racial, political or religious undertones? (Is that even possible?) -Karen "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  7. Lena, I'll do video and really work! I can't believe we leave on Friday morning!! Woo! -Karen "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  8. Yeah.. I was using that repair for a while. It has quit working reliably though. Also, the firewire port is broken on the camera, it would be nice to have that. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  9. I'm not totally sure if I should give up on my PC-9. It was flashing an error code for most of the day (c-21) but is now working again. It seems like it has been flashing that error code with an increasing frequency, refusing to work again for longer increments of time. I reaaaally want a reliable camera by Lost Prairie. We leave on Friday, so I don't have much time. Decisions.. my d-box fits a pc-9, 5 or 101 so my options are somewhat limited. Thoughts? 10. I would love to show up! Unfortunately right after that boogie I am taking two weeks off for LP. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  11. Alls I know about touques is that I am supposed to wear them while drinking kokanee. (Everything that I know about Canada I learned from the cock chorus at Lost Prairie.) "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  12. Woohoo! My suggestion for the boogie name won. Kick ass. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  13. I see your point, but I think it is a task that one can complete easily enough on their own. Umm... no. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  14. If I wasn't renting a place I would do this! Never thought of the chair method, I think I'll start using that. I just take a really long time pulling the cell over me, or I use the fan method. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  15. I think you should inspect the canopy yourself, then if you find something of concern, show it to a rigger. It may seem like an intimidating task at 25 jumps, but it is not a hard thing to do. Can you inspect your underwear and determine if stitches are coming loose or if their are holes or funky stains in your drawers? Sure you can! And inspecting a main canopy is not really different. Their are a number of different methods for doing the inspection. My preferred way is to start on one side of the canopy, inspect the stabilizer and then start with the end cell and pull the canopy over my head while looking at the top and bottom skin and ribs from inside. I keep pulling the canopy down over my head until I can see all the way to the tail of the canopy. I go through the canopy like this inspecting half a cell at a time until I get to the other side. Then make sure to inspect your lines, slider and pilot chute. When inspecting your slider check the grommets to see if they are nice and smooth. Rough spots on your slider grommets are way bad for your lines. If anything looks fishy, get someone to look at it. The sorts of things you might see are possibly areas where the debris snagged some thread and pulled it out, causing the stitching and fabric to bunch up. 16. I don't remember the color of the pilot chute and freebag... hmm.. want to say light blue? Dunno. Packed a number of reserves on Friday. Valinda: That must be what I forgot! I knew that I was forgetting something! Glad it wasn't the molar strap. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  17. :0:1 I was sick this weekend so no jumping for me. But I did have my first save this weekend.
  18. Hmm.. you are at work and I am drinking beer. Interesting. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

  22. Yup. I've got a PC-9 and a Rebel. It's a good set-up for my purposes. (Tandem) "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  23. It depends on why her eardrums ruptured in the first place. If her eustachian tube doesn't function properly for some reason, then jumping could very well rupture her eardrum again. (Or worse.) She should ask her doctor before jumping (preferably an ear nose and throat doctor) because you can do some serious and irreversible damage to your ears from jumping when you are not able to pressurize the airspace in your middle ears. 24. Start working your ass off and saving up money so that when you turn 18 you can get your license quickly and purchase gear. That is what I did! I had $4,000 in the bank that I had saved up to furnish my first apartment once I moved out of my parents place.. instead, I got addicted to skydiving and spent it all on that. I still consider it money well spent. So what my furniture is all from the thrift store and my couches are worth about $10... who cares? Edited to add: Call up your nearest dropzone and ask if they need any parachute packers and how you could go about getting trained. That is a good way to learn about the sport and make some good money! "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
