  1. The short answer is no. A wave coming on shore is mostly affected by gravity. The wind moving towards a hill is not. Wind going up a hill is a completely different model and the amount of turbulence is mainly determined by factors such as wind speed, surface features, and convection. Note: I'm not a fluid dynamics expert, but I DID stay at a Holidy-Inn Express last night ***************************************

  3. British humor I'm sure it's even funnier in person, with the British accent. *********************************
  4. I can't believe anyone would even consider allowing a 16 yr old to go to ANY beach resort, party-town with friends for Spring break. Eighteen is barely old enough for a kid to party on the beach with a bunch of Rodriguez Brothers!! Partying at a beach resort with REAL Mexicans??? NO WAY until she's at least eighteen AND can afford to PAY for the trip with her own money! ************************
  5. Cool show ... very entertaining ... I guess that was the whole point Laurel, you were delightful
  6. Yep ... On the west coast. The white tip sharks were cool too! My travelog from that trip is HERE. Here's an excerpt: "We spent four days on the Pacific coast of Guanacaste at Playa Del Coco. Arriving in the morning, we were eager to manifest for an afternoon dive trip, but because it was the off season, there were no dive boats doing afternoon trips. So we headed to town and grabbed a bite to eat. On the way back to our hotel, we decided to drop in at a couple of the dive shops and were invited to join on a night dive later that day with the divers of Rich Coast Diving Co. We wasted no time and signed up. It was beautiful. The water was a comfortable 86 degrees F. all the way down to 90 ft. The bioluminescence was very bright, the sky was pitch black and loaded with stars. It was strange doing our first dive at night, but it was great! We decended right down on top of a white tip shark that was sleeping on the bottom right under the boat. Cool." **************************************
  7. You have to understand a bit about computer engineering to follow the difference between the x86 (PC) and Power PC (MAC) architechtures. Suffice it to say, "Macs can get more done in a clock cycle than a PC" How much more depends heavily on the nature of the application. No. That isn't sufficient. Architecture is just one of the variables and "work done in a clock cycle" needs to be balanced against the cost of the system. Architects and engineers are usually at odds with each other because of this. Show me the numbers P.S. Have you iPatched your MAC today? If you're running OS X, your iSystem is iVulnerable to this: iDEFENSE Security Advisory 02.21.05: Multiple Unix/Linux Vendor cURL/libcURL NTLM Authentication Buffer Overflow Vulnerability *********************************
  8. Um yeah I think that fireball pic is gonna be real hard to beat! ********************************
  9. That's exactly right, Rev Macs are for people who "think different" If money isn't an issue, and you aren't comfortable reading the manual and learning how to tweak your system to secure it properly then get a MAC. You won't be disappointed. MAC's are beautifully engineered (and marketed! ), and OS X is based on one of the best engineered environments ever (NeXT OpenStep). But MACs are very expensive and don't forget that they are proprietary and you won't be able to "buy parts on sundays" for them. It isn't true that they are inherently more powerful or secure than PC's running windows - either for graphics or anything else. On the other hand, if money IS an issue and you want the most bang for the buck, there is absolutely no technical justification for buyng a MAC unless for some reason the work you need to do can only be done buy software that is exclusively made for the MAC (very unlikely). This is the reason why the vast majority of businesses are not using MACs. For $2500 you can assemble a very powerful PC (or have a trusted geek do it for you), but make sure and get Windows XP Pro rather than Home Edition installed on it. Contrary to what numerous detractors will tell you, it IS possible to very effectively secure Windows XP; I do it all the time. ***************************************
  10. Here's my contribution. Clipped from a vidi I took in Puerto Rico last week. I'm working on the movie ******************************
  11. I just added my donation to the hat ... I want you to succeed and make an example of those guys. But it's also important for the FAA to know that we expect them to do their job too! *********************************
  12. Um ... that would be me! :-) ... but I stuck to my story and claimed innoscence until all the evidence was in. ******************************
  13. Here's some of mine CLICKY I'll post more when I get back home. I'm still in PR I am NOT looking forward to going back home where it's 24 degrees Anyway, I have some pretty interesting stuff. The CSS crowd provided some exceptional photo-ops on Sunday evening when they soaped the fountain at the hotel and tried to re-enact the fountain scenes from Friends (I've got vidis! ) **********************
  14. We got the plane out at ISC this weekend A beautiful sunny day. Now I'm current and headed for the Puerto Rico Freefall Fest ... Woohoo! See my vidi from this weekend (DivX format, 8MB) *******************************
  15. You can build a machine cheaper...but at what cost in time? I can't make more time for myself to do the things that I want to do on the computer. Cheers, Look at a G4 on Apple's site; then take 15 minutes and go to Dell's site and configure a Dell Dimension XPS Gen4 for the same amount of money. Load it with RAM and multiple disks. In fifteen minutes you'll end up with a top-of-the-line system that will totally outperform any G4 and render videos in the blink of an eye! You'll also have a system that will be upgradable, and won't require special tools to fix. ************************************
  16. Alright sorry if I touched a nerve but........I'm not an idiot and I already have an over built PC on which I edit my videos on, but that PC is connected to the net and the wife and kids have access to it there by making me constantly unscrew it at least once a week. Apple's O/S has a good rep for resisting all of the nasty things that todays hackers / spammers / and spy ware makers can throw at it. No problem
  17. IT explains everything. But it's still hogwash I think OS X is a kick-ass OS. I was one of the last people I know of who kept using NeXTStep as long as possible. I really hated to see all of those NeXT boxes get pitched. I think it's entirely possible that everyone would now be using OS X / NeXTStep were it not for the fact that NeXT and Apple were HARDWARE vendors. Apple still is. So it doesn't matter whether OS X is or isn't a better OS than NT. What matters is that operating systems that are designed to run on proprietary hardware will NEVER be able to compete against NT for the corporate desktop platform. Linux may possibly succeed, but it's got a long way to go before the idiot in that article you quoted would be able to successfully install and use Linux I'm not saying that I think NT is a superior OS to OS X or UNIX. What I am saying is that it is possible to do anything you need to do on non-proprietary hardware at lower cost. It just isn't true that Macs are inherently more powerful than Intel-based systems as the originator of this thread implied when he said that "It's still pricey but as far as making video's they blow the average PC out of the water!" That's just not logical. Only an idiot would try to use an "average PC" in order to make videos! ****************************************
  18. I'm also a HISPAS delegate, planning to be at the boogie all day Friday and Saturday. I would be happy to jump with anyone who needs to qualify for a HISPAS #. Also, please note that I am a member of the Pathetic Losers Skydiving Team; so anyone who jumps with me, will also qualify for a PL#. (Pathetic Losers numbers are all negative numbers) *****************************************
  19. Dude, you're gonna LOVE it! BE CAREFUL. I have a Sabre 135 and a Crossfire 119. I still jump 'em both ... the difference between the two is staggering. The openings on the Crossfire are SOOO smooth. Normally However, I can tell you that the Crossfire will be brutal compared to the Sabre 135 if you open in a spin or have line twists. The Sabre 135 is docile compared to the Crossfire. You have to be much more careful with the landings.
  20. True, but I'll bet that for the money you'll spend on a G4, someone could build you a PC that's WAY above average that would make yer G4 seem like one of THESE.
  21. Only eight days to go! I've got everything ready. My rig will be back from Mirage tomorrow, with the SB12-04 mod and reserve repacked, I've got a room reserved at the Punta Maracayo, and I've got my floatation gear. Unfortunately, I can't take the CO2 cartridge with me so I have to either ship it ahead of me, or find a place in PR where I can get one. Can somebody please tell me if they now where in PR I might be able to purchase one of THESE? ************************************

  23. I'm arriving early afternoon the ninth If you're still there, you can ride with me ... *****************************
  24. Nope, but I did ride a motorcycle 2.5 miles home after the clutch cable snapped while I was on the highway. It was, well, interesting... Clutch cables are overrated! *****************************
