  1. Hi Maura! The video is HERE. It's a 12MB file compressed with the DivX codec.
  2. The pleasure was all mine! You guys are fun ... that jump made my day. I'm PM'ing you the link to the movie I made of the jump
  3. Thanks Heather! I will let you know when I'll be going up to SDC again. This weekend, I'll be in Taylorville, but I am planning on jumping at SDC for Summerfest the weekend of July 30.
  4. Yesterday, I spent the afternoon at Skydive Chicago and did five jumps. The last jump of the day, I had the distinct privilege of jumping with the Chicago Sirens (awesome HOT chicks ). Anyway, being the pathetic loser that I am, I somehow managed to leave without my logbook carrier; a light blue cordura fold-up carrier that has a bunch of my business card in it, including my FIRST LOGBOOK . I would really appreciate it if one of you SDC regulars could take a quick look around ... I was packing in the Southeast corner of the hangar and I think I left the logbook thingie on one of the sofas nearest the hangar door or perhaps on the floor and one of the sofas got slid over it when the guys where sliding the furniture around to make room for the plane after the sunset load. I'm hoping somebody will find it and let me know. PLEASE! thanks in advance I am so pathetic! Hector Mandel
  5. Yeah ... no kidding! Those porta potties are a MUST; there's a lotta people here who are full of shit The WFFC is something to look forward to for the entire year, just like lots of other boogies for different reasons. It's THE CONVENTION. It's about the people and you can jump all you want and have a great time. Quit whining already!!! *
  6. I can't wait!! It's just down the street so I will be there for at least ten days Looking forward to meeting you guys. *
  7. I tried it, but the difference in quality, for me, isn't worth the extra hassle ... I just use Photoshop and use high resolution JPEG when taking the pics. *
  8. You might be able to extract the audio as a WAV file (uncompressed) using VirtualDub and then import that into Premiere and overlay it onto the sound track. *
  9. What are the properties of the .avi file? Right-clicky the tiny preview window in the Project frame and click Properties. Are you by any chance using an Nvidia graphics card and have NVDVD software installed on the system? *
  10. I don't think I'm confused My Video DVD Recorder, a Lite-On IT LVW 5045 DOES NOT accept *anything* but a DV Camcorder connected to it's firewire input. So you're saying that the DVRX500 *does* accept video from your computer through the firewire input? That's cool. Edit: Sony's page describing the VRDVC10 DVDirect burner does say that "DVDirect can even be connected to a computer via Hi-Speed USB for high speed DVD burning and other cool things." I wonder what that means, exactly? *
  11. I use Premiere and that's exactly what I do; however, my DVR can only communicate with a DV camcorder through the DVR's firewire port. In order to record from Premiere "directly" to the DVR I have to run the iLink cable from the computer to the DV camcorder and use the RCA output of the camcorder to the DVR. I assumed that all DVR's with a firewire port have this limitation, and thus the presence of the firewire port doesn't facilitate this kind of editing. Am I wrong? Does your DVR accept firewire input from your computer? If so, which brand is it? I want one! ;-) Edit: I see that you are using the RDVX500. Does it record directly from your computer's iLink output?? *
  12. that's basically what i was hoping for... to edit on my laptop & output realtime to a burner without having to do all the encoding that it normally takes. you're right you really don't need the timecode, but it does come in handy. the other side is that i hate to have a DV camera that cost a lot dumped down through analog cables then back to a digital format on a DVD. to me that isn't truely digital or lossless & i wouldn't want to market myself to a customer by telling them it's digital when you're running composite cables. matt The problem is that you really can't use the DVR to do non-linear editing and the firewire port on the DVR's that have one can only be used to connect a DV camcorder to the DVR. I don't think you'd be able to connect your laptop directly to the DVR (I know that doesn't work with my Lite-On IT 5045 unit). So, if you're going to do non-linear editing on your laptop anyway, the DVR will not save you any time. *
  13. I have one, but compared to my Mac it does less, more slowly, and less efficiently, so until I find a reliable OS for it, it isn't being used. Also have unlimited access to an Alienware Area 51M (a high end PC based laptop), but while it is faster than my Mac, the reliability is not there. It suffers from all the problems inherent in Windows, which don't affect my Mac. Whatever At least you can view WMV's. *
  14. Given the realities, I'd say that by chosing to use a Mac, you have alienated yourself. Get a PC. *
  15. What's the advantage of a firewire port on a DVR really? Unless you're going to do non-linear editing, you don't really need the timecodes that DV format provides. All that you can really do with a DVR unit is burn to a DVD anyway. As far as I can tell, the only real advantage to the firewire port is that it allows you to control the DV camcorder from the DVR unit - big deal I purchased my Lite-On IT 5045 unit a couple of months ago and thought that the fireware port was a cool thing, but as it turns out, it doesn't really have any discernible effect on the quality of the video that ends up on the DVD anyway. Am I missing something? *
  16. I think that as long as you mount it so that it points straight ahead, at the horizon, when you have your helmet on, looking straight ahead, all you'll need to do to "sight it in" is to move the ring sight so that it is pointed at whatever is in the center of the camera's field of view when you don the helmet. I'd be surprised if anyone actually swivels the camera instead of the ring sight. *
  17. I use VirtualDub, which is free, with the DivX codec, also free. The quality is pretty good. *
  18. Noice! You lucky dawg You've only got a coupla weeks to wait. I have two Harley's ('02 Low Rider and '03 Heritage Classic) both took about eight MONTHS for delivery. I LOVE having two; the Low Rider is awesome for cruising around town, and the Softail just rocks for the long haul - drove it to San Diego and back last June . So, forget about customizing and save up for number two instead!! *
  19. Welcome to my world, Wingnut! Sounds like you're in the "end-user" or "desktop support" end of the business right now. It will test your patience. The trick is to just help the poor bastards and think of it as "JOB SECURITY" You can learn a lot doing tech support though, and if you continue to advance your skills and knowledge, you'll be better prepared to support the advanced users. After doing my time in the Help Desk side of things, I no longer have to deal with end-users (except for my wife, my family, and my friends). Now I support systems and network administrators and it's a lot more fun; sometimes their screw-ups can yield spectacular results, providing some humorous if not instructive stories to tell
