  1. Isn't it just grits and parts?
  2. Scrapple and Taylor pork roll! Jersey classics! I think its OK, but my mom LOVES the stuff. (I was only born in NJ, I think you have to have been raised there to really develop a taste for it!) I don't travel out east that often, but when I do, I have to bring some home for her!
  3. Well, I don't have a tree YET, but we should have one up and decorated this weekend. I haven't had too many Christmas' with no tree, even when I was broke and living alone.
  4. It was always an angel when I was growing up, and when I got my own place, I found my own angel.
  5. As you can see from the responses you got, your area seems to be an anomoly. I've never experienced or seen anything but completely professional care.
  6. We had a diabetic collie. We needed to check her urine for insulin/ blood sugars levels maybe twice a day and she got insulin shots daily. I was in high school at the time, and my mom took charge of her care. But, it really wasn't that difficult, and she was a great dog, and well worth any extra effort or expense. She was already older when she was diagnosed, but lived well for 2-3 years with treatment before her body started shutting down, then we had her put to sleep. As far as a holistic vet? Just my opinion, but ideally I think you want a vet who is familiar with/ willing to try the more "natural" treatments, but also up to date with all the current medical advances. Even more important is to find a vet who understands you as the pet's "parent" and what you are willing and able to do for your pet, and what you want for your pet. If she is not happy with the vet she's got, then by all means she should shop around for a different one.

    John Lennon

Absolutely! But, he was getting back into his music when he was killed.

Sainthood- no. But I think its a shame he was killed when it seems like he was finally finding a little peace in his life.
  9. I'm not going to disagree with you entirely, but isn't TERROR the primary goal of terrorists? Not so much destroying all of us, just our way of life. In that respect, September 11 was a very good day for terrorists. Should we as Americans apologize for not having had to deal with the effects of terrorism on a daily basis before then? Maybe we just need a little time to catch up with the rest of the you, but the truth of the matter is, I think the whole world is a little jumpy these days.
  10. The terrorism "hype" is the work of terrorists. Their goal is terror and the disruption of "our" way of life. They succeed more and more every single day. But, there's no easy answer that I can see.
  11. ......sigh...... We may not have a perfect system here but ALL police involved shootings are investigated and criminal charges are filed when deemed appropriate. This shooting is also being investigated.
  12. I don't applaud things like this, nor do most people. The shooting is being investigated. But so far the evidence and witness testimony seems to support that the marshalls acted correctly based on the information they had at the time. Still, I feel its tragic and my heart goes out to this man's family.
  13. Gee, didn't the BRITISH police recently shoot an unarmed man in a subway station because they thought HE had a bomb? Please spare me the superiority bit. The entire world is in the grip of paranoia and yes, in response to someone else, this does mean that the terrorists have won because we will never again be able discount the seriousness of a bomb threat. When it comes to bombs on airplanes, the authorities will shoot first and ask questions later.
  14. Looks like we posted at the same time. We had some type of large hawk in our neighbrohood for a while. We never got close enough for a picture. One day we watched him swoop down on a smaller bird, then take him up in a tree and chow down leaving all sorts of feathers, etc. on the ground below. And one day we did see some furry remains in our backyard and the rabbit who had been a frequent visitor hasn't been seen since.
  15. Rabbits and rodents- but he'll leave a lot of gore behind when he's done with his snacks!

    December 8...

Its kind of funny. There are people who remember and talk about what they were doing when the heard about John F. Kennedy's assassination. Me- I remember exactly where I was when I heard about John Lennon's death.

Well, I'm not nearly the Beatles geek I once was and I was just a little kid when the Beatles broke up. Its been a while since I've read up on their history but I seem to recall reading that they were writing and recording separately by the time they did Sgt Pepper if not sooner. The White Album for sure, but Yoko was probably in the picture at that point. Yoko and Linda didn't help matters, but as a group, they were showing signs of wear and tear before the ladies showed up.

Paul had a new wife trying to call the shots too. And long before Yoko came into the picture, the 4 of them were not recording together in the studio.

Living his life, finally settling down, raising his youngest son and finding some peace and happiness. From all that I've read about the Beatle's breakup, I don't think any of them really wanted to stay together. No fair blaming the wives!
  20. The Beatles were closer to my parent's generation than mine BUT probably the first rock and roll I actually listened to. I was a fan in Jr. High and High School, years after they broke up. I read all the books, saw the movies, bought the albums and plastered their posters in my room. I've always had a soft spot for Ringo but John Lennon's death hit me like a ton of bricks. I can't believe it was 25 years ago either! I remember my dad telling me about it when he picked me up from work- funny because he wasn't ordinarily a sensitive thoughtful kind of guy, but he was then. And I remember hearing Imagine on the radio the next morning. I still get chills when I hear that song!
  21. I was under the impression that employers received tax breaks and insurance discounts if they had mandatory drug testing. Pretty good incentive.
  22. psssst- if you call him an ass, he'll just whine about how no one understands him and we're all so cliquish and humoUrless. Oddly enough, he'll find 3 or 4 people who actually agree with him and they'll scold all the rest of us on his behalf. Do we NEED all that drama today?
  23. Most come with puny memory cards and eat batteries like crazy. When you buy the camera, do yourself a favor and buy a decent sized memory card as well as some rechargable batteries. My guy surprised me with one last Christmas- since it was new, we kept playing with it. I swear the first set of batteries was dead within an hour, and the card would only hold about 20 pictures. So, so much for taking a gazillion pics with the new camera on Christmas day! That's my only real complaint- its an Olympus and takes very good pictures, AND its easy to use. I just think for what the camera costs, they could throw in a 64 bit card instead of 16, and maybe software that works without you having to purchase an upgrade!
  24. As far as sick days- my guess is you would see a greater corrolation amoung people who drink on average more than one alcoholic drink per day. and also people who smoke. Both legal activities that have an impact on your day to day health AND workplace productivity. At least illegal drugs are generally consumed during no working hours.
  25. I agree with you. You should not need to consent to a background and credit check until you are much further along in the interview/ hiring process. "Passing" that and the drug test can be a condition of hiring, but not interviewing. (As in we have the right to rescind this offer......) I balked at one job because of the consent form for the background check. I was sure it could not be done without my current employer being notified in some way and I hadn't officially accepted the position or given notice. I just didn't like how it was handled.
