The Ixtapa boogie was a lot of fun last year for the belly flyers and free flyers. You can check the Skydive Chicago website for dates and details, then make your own travel arrangements. They are also hosting a boogie in Puerto Vallarta. Plus, they are in Ixtapa pretty much all winter with the otter so if the boogie dates don't work, you can still go and jump. Bring a few friends and make your own boogie! edited to add: The Puerto Vallarta boogie is the first week of February, Ixtapa is the following week. Puerto Escondido* is beautiful BUT they tend to plan their boogies at peak season-Christmas and Easter weeks- the only two weeks in the entire year where finding a reasonable priced place to stay can be a problem. If you're considering PE, just plan ahead! *That one is organized out of Cuatla if I am not mistaken. So, check their website or the Spanish forum for details.

I wasn't implying that men who are aroused by attractive women are perverts. I was suggesting that the defense would have a much easier time finding a sympathetic jury in this case than they would if it were a male teacher with a female student. Its human nature. The prosecution offered a plea in what should have been a slam dunk case because they knew they could lose in front of a jury.

I *think* the cousin was 15 at the time, so I doubt they would prosecute him. They could charge her with another count of "lewd behaviour" though. And there is a reason we have a legal age for consent in this country. Legally, it was rape. Besides, how do you know no damage was done to him? How do you define or determine damage? And how do you know no coercion was involved? Coercion can be subtle especially when you are dealing with children.

That's what happened with Mary Kay LaTourneau (sp?). IIRC, they caught her in the back seat of a car with the same kid and sent her to jail pregnant with his child. I think he married her as soon as he turned 18 or she got out of jail.

And this attitude is most likely WHY there was a plea bargain! Chances are a jury of 12 would include at least a few men who were once horny 14 year old boys, men who STILL get a boner at the sight of a cute blonde! If they could have been guaranteed a jury of 12 mothers, they might have gone to trial! Bottom line, she was an adult in a position of authority and he was a child. It was rape no matter how willing he was.

According to the article, yes, she'll have to register as a sex offender and lose her teaching certificate, and she won't be allowed around children. Plus 3 years house arrest and 7 years probation. Its not jail time (which she deserves) but apparantly the family of the victim didn't want a lengthy trial and the defense was planning an insanity plea which may have worked on a sympathetic jury. (Who knows?) My guess is the prosecution saw the plea bargain as a "bird in the hand" and the family was OK with it.

I read about this yesterday, and I do see where you are coming from. And I hear you about the "unbiased" press. I guess there's innocent and then there's innocent. Clearly the man wasn't a fine upstanding member of society, but he also *may* have been convicted and executed for a crime he did not commit. One less gang banger on the streets, but does the end justify the means?

Wasn't it Cantu (the man who was executed) that was involved but not convicted in the police shooting? And the primary witness against him an undocumented immigrant who did not ID him until after he was shown the photo 3 times? (The third time long after the crime, but only shortly after Cantu was acquitted in the police shooting?) And the other witness, a co-defendent who got a lighter sentence for testifying and now feels guilty?

Probably similar to the line of nasty fat bald mofos waiting at the door to the *other* brothel! Seriously, what kind of men patronize female prostitutes? They can't all be terminally "unlayable", right? I think its going to be very successful and the women who go there will have their own reasons beyond being too fat to get a date!

For me, its all about the carbs, but not necessarily sweets. I'll binge on mashed potatoes or fries too! And Chinese food is my Friday night home alone indulgence because my guy doesn't really like it. If he decides to hand out with the guys, I'm grabbing the menu, picking up the phone and putting a chick flick on! Not sure if that qualifes as "comfort food" or not!

I find very few movies made from my favorite books "measure up" because a good book makes me SEE the characters and the story in my mind. More often than not, the movie is a let down. BUT, if I see a movie before I read the book, I can often enjoy both. Still, I've enjoyed all of the Harry Potter films so far simply because they are so wonderfully cast and acted. I don't think they could have found anyone better to play most of the main characters!
