Everything skydiving related but my rig stolen
tigra replied to HydroGuy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Not only that, the police could very well know exactly where to look for your stuff. I had my bag stolen on my way to work one morning, called the cops and after taking my statement, they were at the door about 45 minutes later with everything that was in my bag but the cash. So do call them! -
No, the season will be uninterrupted, just like last year. Its why FOX waited until January to start it. In previous years, there would be 3-6 weeks between new episodes- Fox would bump 24 for American Idol and other new shows. Either they got too many complaints or they lost viewers because a show like 24 needs continuity. Do you actually watch Prison Break?

Plates and screws: Leave them in or get them out?
tigra replied to MooChooser's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Well, this is what my orthopedic surgeon told me a few years back. He was strongly in favor of hardware removal in my case and brought it up while I was still in a cast, and this was part of his logic: I was young and healthy enough to be a good candidate for surgery and healing well enough that bone growth wasn't an issue. I also led a relatively active lifestyle as a skydiver. (I think the more active you are, the greater chance the hardware will bug you down the road.....) In really simple terms he said bone doesn't grow where the metal is, but it will grow back once the metal has been removed. And bone is better than metal. He didn't go into infection risks (which there are if you keep the metal in) or what might happen if I rebroke my leg, but I've heard horror stories about both. Removing it is a really simple procedure for most people, you may even be able to walk (not crutch) out of the hospital the same day its done. It will take a few weeks for the holes in your bone to fill in, but you'll probably feel a difference without the hardware before the incision heals, even if you don't think its bugging you all that much now. -
Logan WAS going to go along with Walt's plan until he was caught and realized there was a way out. This is just a revamp on season 2, but with a president who could be easily manipulated instead of Palmer. (BTW- that's the same secret service agent who helped President Palmer back then.) In a way, I feel cheated by the duplicate plot line*, and I'm so irritated by Logan's complete stupidity and lack of a spine. One wonders if he'll develop a conscience and resign from office once this crisis is over, or if he'll be forced out. (And really, the story line is soooo unlikely- planting weapons of mass destruction to justify a war with the ultimate goal of protecting the foreign oil supply? Where on earth do the writers get this stuff? That would NEVER happen!) *I'm hoping the reason for this is that the writers will tie these stories and conspiracies in and answer some questions, like who the fuck was Nina really working for????? We're only five hours in. By hour 10-possibly 7- the nerve gas will be found and neutralized with minimal casualties- the remaining time will be spent on yet another crisis or 2 and chasing down the conspirators. Even though its predictable, I love this show!

Sounds like he has a name, anyway! Dude seems to fit him! You walk in the house every day and say, "Oh, Dude, what the f*****?!

Didn't you watch last season? Logan doesn't apologize or give credit where its due.

That grape jelly/ chili sauce recipe has been around forever. Seems to turn up at almost every office pot luck. I've mostly heard of it used for meatballs, and it does taste pretty good even though it sounds weird.

When I was in high school, we moved to a new town and our collie got out. She wasn't familiar with the area and managed to get a good 5 miles from home but she did have a collar with the old vet's number. It took all day, but we got her back thanks to a couple of nice people who saw her, checked her tag and made calls.

On the bright side, most cats are meticulous in their bathroom habits and pretty low maintenance as far as pets go. Plus, they make great companions; they are smart and fun with unique personalities. To me, that and so much more outweighs the hacking.

He's a cutie and since he's obviously very friendly, I doubt he's been on his own for too long. My guess is he has a home and just got lost. By taking him in for now, you're doing him and his family a good deed. In the morning, you can make some calls (all the places you would call if you lost a pet) and put up signs. "Found" ads used to be free, so look into that too. He looks way too sweet and well cared for to be a stray, so don't worry too much. I'll bet you find his real family in no time.

Actually, I can't even blame Matt Damon. The writers (with or without Ludlum's OK) totally changed who the character was, and took way too much license with the story. In the book, he was a deep cover agent tracking the assassin, and as he regained bits and pieces of his memory, he feared he might actually BE the assassin he had been tracking. The group he was working for was top secret, but not evil. The movie (I never even bothered with the second) turned him into an assassin for hire. I can't let that go, it completely changes the character and the story. Old classic Ludlum is still a great read though. One of my favorites is the Materese Circle. But, once you read a few, you've got the formula down. Usually, its the characters that keep me reading.

I had a cat that did that as well- ate til she puked. I took her in as a stray, and my male cats never liked or accepted her. I assume she either remembered being hungry or she was scared of my boys (maybe a little of both). When she got to the food bowl, she would just go to town. She did it even after I gave her to my mom, where she lived a life of relative luxury in a one cat household. And my longhaired male cat has made hacking up hairballs into an artform. He's been known to get up on top of a book shelf and puke over the side, getting everything in its path. His 5:00am hacking is better than any alarm clock, and he has a unique ability to leave his "gift" where he's sure it will be stepped on. But he's been my best friend and companion for almost 17 years, so I have to put up with it!

Preston isn't a real mole or a scumbag; he was used and really believed he was serving the president. I also think he genuinely cares for Cloe- go figure. If he doesn't have an unfortunate accident before he can say too much, he just may end up helping Jack, Tony and Cloe save the day. There's probably another mole, so highly placed Walt doesn't even know who he is. (Walt IS a scumbag, but he's also being used............)

Well, so far the movie versions with Matt Damon have totally ruined the Bourne saga. Was this book even written by Robert Ludlum?

Getting current for Ixtapa? I'm jealous!

We do that in my line of work too- mostly for nuisance stuff which really is outside what we are supposed to do. We price it high enough to either discourage them or make it worth our while.

"Slow is smooth, smooth is fast" was one of Roger Nelson's 10 way mantras, and worked very well for his team. BUT, the movie Cutaway was also oddly reminiscent of some of the team practices I witnessed as a significant other of one of the 1999 gold medal winners.

When I was a little kid, first we had a cat, then a year or so later, we brought home a collie puppy. The puppy go overly curious about the cat, she swatted him across the nose (drew blood and left a permanent scar) and that was that. The pecking order was established and the dog knew her place.

I always thought Shakespeare (my cat) was trying to get the dog in trouble too. He'd open up cabinets and everything. He was the best cat!
-
I had a cat that used to jump on the kitchen counters and throw things down for the dog. Cats are funny creatures...............

Puerto Vallarta is new this year. There was plenty of freeflying and bellyflying happening in Ixtapa last year. From what I hear, the PV dz is located much closer to the airport, so the loads probably will turn faster. Jumping in Ixtapa was at a very relaxed pace, partly due to the distance to the airport (20-25 minutes) and partly due to airport traffic and regulations. (4 or 5 in a day was a full day, and meant you were probably on the first AND last loads of the day and most of them in between......) It really was a blast though, and what better way to spend your time between jumps than relaxing in the pool or getting a massage on the beach?
-
And a reminder that the DZs in Puerto Vallerta and Ixtapa are up and running as seasonal dzs, not just for the boogies next month. Sure, you may find more people to jump with during the boogie, but they are open to experienced jumpers all winter long. See the Skydive Chicago website for more details.

Ditto on the Monkees reruns. I loved those when I was younger.

I agree that Logan is not that smart. He's dumb, weak and arrogant. He also doesn't do much for himself, and isn't even comfortable making decisions. I also think you are right about the bad guys from the end of Season 2. The underlying premise behind Season 2 was that there were people in positions of power who were trying to control the presidency. (Actually also a factor in the first season.) Now those people have a president they can easily manipulate and control. Could they also be the same people Nina was ultimately working for? (Yeah, I know she's dead and all, but as far as I'm concerned, there were a lot of unanswered questions regarding Nina.......) I'm thinking Novick is OK. He allowed himself to be used in Season 2 and he did betray Palmer, but he was never one of the instigators. Plus, he did redeem himself last season. It is possible that Palmer still did not completely trust him though which would explain his going to Logan's wife instead of him. And while Palmer knew something was up, clearly he didn't have all the details. He would not have been calmly going over his memoirs at 7:00am if he knew an airport was going to be taken over by terrorists in less than 2 hours, right? Oh, and as far as I know, they sewed Chases' hand back on. I'd love to see them bring him back- he and Jack had an interesting relationship.

Secretary Heller has a new sitcom. I don't really expect to see him this season. If we do, it will be brief.
