I thought you were posting a recipe for Carnitas!

I don't do scented, but I also won't go "cheap" or generic with anything that goes on my face or my ass! Its real unscented "Kleenex" for my nose/face and unscented Charmin TP!

In the article you posted, the military clearly admits they didn't give proper notification and also indicates that their procedures will change in the future so the participants in their exercises will be able to tell the difference between the "real" deputies and the ones who are part of their "game". The article also indicates that the military is just now admitting that they didn't give adequate notification, so both sides have apparently been guilty of distorting the truth and changing their stories. If the soldiers had known they were dealing with a "real" deputy who was not aware of their training exercise, they would most likely have behaved differently. Overzealous deputy or not, no shots would have been fired. It was a tragic and entirely preventable incident, and the blame lies pretty squarely with the military officers in charge of the exercise.
-
Do you have any concerns with the fact that the military admits they didn't notify local law enforcement of their "training exercise"? The cop didn't know about the "war games" but the soldiers/civilan assumed he was a part of the exercise and behaved accordingly. Who was the real "perp" here? The cop who was outnumbered in a rural area with 3 heavily armed men who were behaving erratically, or the military officer in charge of the training exercise who neglected to notify local law enforcement?

Things that are grounds for revocation of the man card
tigra replied to NWFlyer's topic in The Bonfire
I have a male friend (definitely hetero) who races his Miata. Yes, its a "cute" car, but its also a very fast car. I'd say its more of a "chick friendly" sports car! -

Miatas are fast cars, and chicks dig them. I'm not sure "drives a Miata" belongs on the list. The "new" VW Beetle is pretty much a chick car, but not the Miata. Funny, though, I was ready to bring up the "man card" issue when a few guys posted to eeneR's Grey's thread over the weekend! Admitting you care whether or not Meredith died is definitely grounds for revocation! Speaking of Celine Dion, what about Shania? I've busted at least 3 guys with Shania Twain on their iPods or with their CDs. They blamed their daughters. Yeah right! -
I hear ya! It was a little off. First of all, I just don't see McDreamy yelling at Mama Grey like he did, especially since she's no longer lucid. It was totally out of character for him (grief stricken or not) and leaves you wondering if the outcome would have been the same if he hadn't. Will he tell Meredith? And how will she react? Can't they just be happy together for 5 minutes with no drama?

You can get good deals if you shop around. If you enjoy the nicer resorts, AI can be a more economical way to travel. Keep in mind though that even at the best resorts, the buffet food is only going to be so so- if you can, treat yourselves to a few meals off the resort! And no matter what they tell you at the hotel desk, tip your bartender! Tip him well on the first day and he'll treat you well for your entire stay. Don't tip him and your drinks will be watered down and the service slow. As far as value, I don't think you can beat Mexico, but the deals you find will depend on where you are traveling from. (And you won't find many last minute bargains over Easter!) I love Huatulco, but its difficult and expensive to get to from some parts of the US.

Jack had to get his super powers from someone, right?

Actually, the issue isn't public breastfeeding, its what is and is not appropriate for the workplace. Bringing your toddler to work with you and neglecting your job while caring for said toddler isn't what I would call "employee of the month" behavior. It doesn't matter if she's breastfeeding, changing diapers*, finding activities to occupy the kid or having to discipline him because he's acting out. If it happens once because she's in a bind and can't get a sitter, that's one thing. If it occurs on a regular basis, that's something else entirely. If this is behavior the owner knows about and tolerates (or if she IS the owner) and you don't have a significant investment in this business, then you probably should STFU and MYOB. *personally, I find people changing diapers in public much more offensive than breastfeeding, but I also understand there are times when that's the best or only option.

Oh yeah- back to the original post. All I can say is maybe the season will FINALLY start to get a little interesting. So far the writers seem to be really slacking and just re-using storylines for the past 5 seasons! (and not even the good ones!) When they bring back Spawn being cornered by the mountain lion while evading not only the police but a nuclear bomb, I know I'll be done with the show for good! And Logan's wife is busy doing the nasty with Aaron!
-
Nothing better for a cold than some good Hot and Sour soup. The best I've ever had comes from a place in Evanston, Illinois-The Pineyard. YUM!
-
Bring back Spawn! She was only really annoying during the first 2 seasons when she kept getting herself kidnapped and arrested! And sorry, there is no way Josh is Jack's son unless Rena Sofer had some of his sperm frozen! The timeline doesn't work. Whatever relationship they had was over before Jack started his military career and she married his brother. Plus, Jack was still happily married to Terry when the kid was born. Jack only "cheated" on Terry when they were seperated. He has way too much honor to have had an affair with his sister in law while he was still with Terry!

Using that logic, every single time I get into the car with my SO behind the wheel, I deserve to have something thrown at me. We'll never know in this case if the other driver violated any laws. All we know is that he annoyed her by pulling in front of her, and she responded by throwing something at the vehicle and specifically, at his passenger. Almost everyone has a cell phone these days. If he was driving illegally or recklessly, she could have called 911 and reported it.

I disagree with the sentence, but not the conviction. It was road rage and she was driving with her children and her pregnant sister in the car. She endangered their lives as well as the couple in the other car, and anyone else on the road with them. The "no harm no foul, don't tie up the court's valuable time" argument doesn't do it for me either. If an accident had occurred as a direct result, she might have been looking at manslaughter charges. Plus, I seriously doubt she "learned her lesson" after only an hour in jail, from the interview, it sounds like she still doesn't get it. Its still all about her and how unfair the sentence is, not about the lives she endangered. "Waaah waaah, I'm so stressed out, I cry everyday, my hair is falling out!" And as far as bogging down the courts? She should have pled guilty and immediately started serving a more appropriate sentence. Maybe digging graves for accident victims or cleaning out bedpans in the burn unit of her local hospital? Something that would clue her in on exactly why what she did was wrong and the potential consequences of actions like hers.

You know what? We saw Eragon last night at the cheap show. It was an early movie in a small theatre loaded with kids and they all behaved just fine. When we were in the popcorn line, we thought we had made a mistake but I was pleasantly surprised. I liked the movie too. Funny how the kids can behave at the movies when adults can't seem to!

Yeah, I guess my point was that work environments can be tricky. Most of the time, when you are dealing with hostile co-workers and you KNOW it wasn't anything you said or did, the reason has to do with the job, the company, management and their dissatisfaction or frustration. They may be taking it out on you in a personal way, but really, its about the job and the problem isn't limited to women. I think the more competitive the field, the worse it gets. Plus, some environments are just more competitive than others.
-
I think you've been hanging out with the wrong women! Hey, I've met more than a few petty jealous women, but I never really called them friends. The nut jobs and people with false motives aren't all that difficult to spot, are they? In my experience, women like that are the exception, not the rule. Skycat, my guess is there's something else going on at your job. Maybe you're getting some praise and attention, and these other women- rather than admit you earned it through the quality of your work (admitting their own shortcomings) would rather attack you on a personal level. You never know, upper management may even be manipulating the situation or fueling the fire. At one of my previous jobs, my immediate supervisor (a miserable prick) took some perverse delight in manipulating me and a colleague- basically trying to pin us against each other. One thing he did regularly was talk to me about her behind her back, and do the same thing with her. I saw through it, but the other woman was too stupid to ever figure it out. Anyway, I hope things improve or you fnd a less toxic place to work.

You're absolutely right. He broke Mexican laws and stepped on quite a few toes while he was there. He also rid that country of a rapist, and returned him to the states to serve his sentence. (He was living outside a resort area- not exactly in hiding- and probably had access to all the roofies and girls he wanted!) I can see how the Mexican authorities would be pissed- he showed a complete disregard for their procedures and made them look really bad in the process. He probably could have gotten the job done without breaking any laws in the process, but that wouldn't have made for good TV. So, yes, the mess he is in is mostly his own doing, but I also think the kidnapping charges are extreme and the whole situation has gotten out of control. Personally, I think Dog needs to make nice with a public apology (and probably some privately greased palms as well), and if that happens, the Mexican authorities should drop the kidnapping charges. They have to be better off with one less fugitive ex pat living large just outside one of their busiest resort areas!

Its a lot easier to get a pee sample from a dog than it is to get one from a cat. Trust me- I've done both! We had a diabetic collie and needed to dip her urine 2 or 3 times a day to see where her blood sugar was at. We used a disposable pie pan and slid it under her when she was going. Never once got peed on either! And if you absoultely can't get a sample, bring the dog to the vet anyway. If needed, they can get a sample directly from his bladder. It definitely sounds like a medical problem to me.

After I read this, I had to go check the Zihua board I used to visit regularly. I see someone posted an explanation there as well. Very good move! Its amazing how some rumors get started, but they spread like wild fire on those message boards! A couple of years ago, I was having a discussion with a regular there who was absolutely convinced there had been a tandem (double) fatality there the year before. I had the hardest time convincing him that it didn't happen and that skydiving fatalities, especially tandem fatalities don't get covered up or go unreported. He, and other people on the board took the position that if it was really bad for tourism, the local government would just cover it up and that's why I didn't know about it. And I tried to explain that I personally knew most of the people working there at the time, and even if I didn't, the way the skydiving community works, it would be virtually impossible not to hear about something like that! After arguing back and forth on the board, he finally sent me an email explaining that he wasn't a gossip monger and he wasn't trying to trash anyone's business, but he heard what he heard from what he considered to be a very reliable source. Oddly enough, the "source" turned out to be a man he met at an AA meeting over there- an American who claimed to be one of the tandem instructors who had clearly fallen "off the wagon" and was using his grief over a non-existent accident as his excuse! Go figure! I guess he was really convincing, because it took an awful lot for me to get the message board guy to admit that maybe, just maybe, he had been lied to!

I *think* you can refuse to pay it for the exact same reasons. I've heard about the 6 month rule before when I received a bill related to a surgery I had 18 months earlier. When I tried to pass it on to the insurance company, that's what they told me. I passed that information on to the party that sent me the bill and never heard another word about it. And it never hit my credit, either. If they can prove they billed on time and simply weren't paid, you should be able to pass it back to the insurance company for payment. A lot of these places go ahead and send the bills out knowing they are past the "timely filing" requirement but figuring that some people and insurance companies will pay instead of questioning it.

I agree- it was over hyped and it also took me a few episodes to really warm up to the characters. Its funny though- as the show started growing on me, the critics that had initially praised the show started panning it.

I did it a few times when we had a fitness center in my building, and yes, I did feel pretty good afterwards- much better than the usual afternoon slump. But, even with the gym in my building, it was difficult to get down there, change, do 45 minutes of cardio, clean up and get back to the office in an hour. Plus, I'm usually too busy to take much of a lunch break. Leaving my desk for a whole hour is a luxury these days! But if you can do the 90 minute lunch a few days a week and don't mind rushing your workout, then go for it.

I've had two broken ankles 5 years apart, really similar injuries. I ended up with plates and screws in the fibula, pins/ small screws in the tibia. And I had all the hardware removed both times within about 2 years. The first time, the screws on the fib side were visible within about six months and the ones in my tibia were painful pretty much every day. My doctor took one look at the screws and said he take them out whenever I was ready. The last time, the hardware wasn't bothering me as much, but I could definitely tell it was there and I could feel it, especially when I did a lot of walking. But I didn't realize just how much it was bothering me until it was gone. I had just gotten used to the discomfort and considered it normal. With any surgery, you need to look at risk vs. reward. For some people, another surgery isn't worth what you'll gain. For me, it was. I think you'll find the sports medicine specialists more open to hardware removal than the more conservative orthos who make most of their money on hip and knee replacements in older patients. And as far as you're being at a greater risk to re-break the bone- well, unless you've got problems with bone growth, the bone should only be significantly weaker for 6-8 weeks while the holes fill in. My first OS strongly recommended removing the hardware when the time was right because he felt I was young and healthy enough that bone growth wasn't an issue, and active enough that I'd notice the difference.
