  1. I agree about the firm hand, but I disagree that it needs to be the fathers. I don't really think its fair that the dads have to be the ones to dish out the punishments in general- not fair to the kids, not fair to the dads and not fair to the moms. That whole concept is dated and doesn't really work in today's society where families are a lot less traditional. (When I was growing up, I think I was a little more afraid of my mom than I was my dad. Mom was around a lot more and she did have a pretty firm hand.) Plus that whole "Just wait until your father gets home" threat only works if Dad will be home in a few hours (not days or weeks) and will actually do something when he gets there.
  2. OK, I hate to be blunt but based on everything you have posted over the past several months, I would say you are essentially a single parent with a husband who is gone more than he is at home. Its not his place to decide on the punishment especially since he won't be around to enforce it and I think that's the root of the problem. Either your son is screaming out for attention or he knows he can get away with whatever he wants to do. He's obviously testing you both. And just because he's big on the outside doesn't mean he isn't still a little boy in the inside. You're going to have a lot more luck trying to get him under control at 11 than you will be at 14 or 16.

    Cat food HELP

OK, a serious answer just in case you really are stressing out over this. Don't stress it if you've already opened it, its just fine. Yes, they do tend to formulate cat food for different phases of their life, but what you bought is just fine for now and won't harm your cats. (As long as there isn't any toxic chinese wheat gluten or bits of melamine or whatever.....) Just call your animal hospital and ask what they suggest and any brands or types you should stay away from and keep that in mind next time you are at the store. There is no reason to return or throw away the food that you bought. For years I fed ALL of my cats (even young kittens) a prescription Kidney (low protein) diet that only one of them needed. It was too hard to feed different kinds of food, and I checked with my vet. It was more important for my older cat to have the special food and NOT the high protein kitten food than it was for the kittens to have the kitten food. (and in case you haven't noticed, ALL cats love kitten food!) I'd sneak them a LITTLE kitten food when I could keep it away from the older guy, but the main diet was the same for everyone. I raised 3 kittens like that and they are all now healthy adult cats. Now that I no longer have the older kidney patient, my 3 cats are eating a Royal Canin food designed for young adult neutered male cats- up to 7 years old. Only 2 of them fall into that category, but they all seem to be doing well on the food. I made that choice because the middle guy is a big cat, and he's borderline chubby. This food is supposed to be better for him. Who really knows? A steady diet of mice, birds and grass is probably what they all really need but that's just not going to happen here! Oh, and I've never had much luck with any of the science diet foods. My cats have always preferred Iams and Royal canin. They have to be really hungry to eat the science diet foods. Please return to posting the cute kitty pictures now!
  4. You must have studied Spanish with my sister. I vaguely remember a certain booze cruise where she kept asking for more of the El Pinko Stuffo that the nice boys were pouring down our throats!

    LOST

After Michael killed 2 of them and betrayed them all, would Jack still call him a friend? I'm not sure if it was Michael in the coffin or not, but I like the theory. And, I'm disappointed they didn't get to explore Walt's "special talents" any more than they did. It would be nice to see more of Walt next season. I still keep coming back to what Ben said about every LIVING person on the island being killed if Jack made the rescue call.

Why doesn't the theory work? Michael WOULD be eaten up with guilt and suicidal, and Walt is clearly older than he was. That could be the writers' way of explaining the growth spurt that cost the child actor who played Walt his job. Speaking of growth spurts, did you get a look at Claire's HUGE baby? The one that is supposed to be what? 2 months old? Or is that the Island's magical powers again? I don't think Future Kate ends up with Jack or Sawyer. She might go back to the cop/ fiancee/ husband that she left behind when she went to Australia. Sawyer will push her away now that he really is a killer- you noticed how easily he killed the last one, right?
  7. I've always hated and sucked at math and my index finger is longer. Go figure!

    LOST

Not STILL alive, alive again on the island of bad dads. Remember the empty coffin? Only people who die ON the island stay dead (except for Mikhail.....). If you died off the island, anything goes.

    LOST

I LOVED Hurley saving the day with the VW Bus. I don't think Jack was being delusional about his father. I think they both work in the worst hospital ever, and that hospital allowed both of them to return after the "rescue". Jack was stealing meds and the new chief of staff said NOTHING? Just asked how much he had to drink, not how many oxys he popped with the booze? Didn't mention the controlled substances he stole or ask him to turn out his pockets? We'll see more of Jack's bad dad next season.

AND, in the "future", Jack's dead father is alive. Ben told Jack if he completed the call, every LIVING person on the Island would die, right? Ben misleads but rarely lies- Naomi was NOT who she claimed to be. Jack and co. make it off the island- are they really dead after all? Speaking of dead, why is Mikhail so damn hard to kill? He's the only person who appears to die on the island without staying dead! I thought Charlie had a nice "noble" death- the last 2 episodes made me like him again. The last half of the season came back strong. I think I read somewhere that from now on, they are going to follow Fox's lead and air the remaining seasons 24 style- showing the complete season in consecutive episodes, no repeats and no long breaks between new episodes. That would be a welcome change!
  11. Jamiaca Blue Mountain is yummy. My sister usually sends me about a pound at Christmas. I knew it was pricey, but dayum........
  12. I was going to say the same thing- that's not coffee, its a froo froo coffee drink! But old Maxwell House congealing in the pot isn't exactly coffee either! How about some nice freshly ground and brewed sumatra? With a spalsh of half and half??? yum!
  13. Awwwwwww! Pobrecito! Feel better soon, honey!
  14. I found that to be true with my ankle the first year or so after I broke it especially. I really needed to keep working it or it would stiffen up.
  15. I think Jack's father probably did survive. I liked the bit with Cloe and Morris- they're both so neurotic that they belong together. Bill stepping in to help save the day and "do the right thing" was a nice touch. The vice president ordering (and CTU going along with) a lameass plan that involved kidnapping and then blowing up a child? That pretty much sucked ass. Jack staring off into the sunrise, alone again? Whatever...... Haven't we seen that before? We'll probably never find out if Wayne Palmer lives or dies. We never knew what happened with the president that Logan replaced (they pulled him from the wreackage of the plane crash ALIVE) or if Logan survived his stab wound. I hated the Chinese story line when it first played out, hated the end of last season and the beginning of this one, hated the Chinese getting back involved AGAIN at the end of this season. It was stupid two whole seasons ago and just got dumber and dumber. However, Cheng got in the best line when he said HIS government wouldn't abandon him the way Jack's did. All in all it was a really disappointing season, yet for some reason, I watched almost every episode and I'll probably tune in next year too. And I definitely think Jack Bauer does belong on the Island of Bad Dads with the Lostaways. His real father is an evil jerk, and the man he looked up to like a father screwed him over too.
  16. Do not fear the pink, but do fear the skin tight jumpsuit! If that's the OP in the picture, he will fall like a ballistic meatbomb in that suit!
  17. Shower stool, hand held shower massage and a water proof cast cover. Being able to take a decent shower goes a LONG way towards making you feel better- cleaner, stronger and more independent. Really! The cast covers cost about $30.00 but they really do work so much better than garbage bags and duct tape. Unfortunately, I've had the opportunity to make the comparison. With the cast cover, you can get all the way in to the shower instead of trying to dangle your leg outside. Make an effort to get out of the house whenever you can- hopefully you've got friends and family who won't mind driving you around and taking you places. (And remember to pay it forward next time you've got a friend with a broken leg.) Don't be shy about grabbing an extra chair and putting your leg up no matter where you are. Getting out- even if its just for a bite to eat- also does a world of good- just don't over do it, and DO speak up when its time to get home to the recliner and pain pills.
  18. In the past, that's been a Winter DZ only- November through March-ish. There generally aren't enough tourists in the summer. As far as restrictions for fun jumpers- if they're open, you'll probably need a B license or at least be "B Qualified" and you'll need flotation gear. Don't expect rental gear or a packer. I doubt they will be open, but if you do a search in this forum, you'll find contact info for the people who worked there this past winter. They can tell you for sure.
  19. Well, they have indicated that on Lost Island, its about 3 years ago, right? Back when Jack et al were first captured by the others, didn't Ben tell Jack that the Boston Red Sox had just won the World Series? BUT............ if Jack and Kate make it off the Island, what does that say about your spoiler that Kate dies, and if you die on the island, you stay dead?
  20. I totally agree. The guy annoyed me from the first day, but at the end (and I know a lot of this is editing) by not keeping his word, he guaranteed Earl the million and made himself look like a collassal jackass! If he'd kept his word, he might have been able to extend and profit from his 15 minutes a little bit longer. Now, at best he's remembered as an idiot, but more likely just a greedy stupid liar! I hope he "forgets" to pay the taxes on the truck he "won" and ends up in a cell next to Richard Hatch!
  21. Dreams definitely should have gone before Boo. He was flipping between alliances from the very first day, and it was so obvious he couldn't be trusted. He outlived his usefullness as soon as Edgardo was voted off and the other alliance was broken. Yau Man is a class act, though. He told Dreams straight up- "My bad, my mistake. Keep the truck, its cool!" Funny, though- I didn't realize what a freak Boo was until the final tribal counsel when he was getting on Dreams for being a bad Christian! Everyone disliked him and I didn't understand why!
  22. They starved their baby to death- a slow painful process that took weeks. Weeks while the baby wasted away and eventually must have become too weak to cry. At first the cries were probably almost constant. Weeks of doing nothing to help their infant, not seeking medical attention or advice as their baby wasted away and died. I don't see anything accidental about that, and I DO think that level of cruelty and neglect indicates "evil intentions".
  23. I'll pass, but thanks for the suggestion. Honestly, I'm not one of those people constantly on the phone. But, I drive 45 minutes each way to and from work, and I like having my phone when I spend weekends at the dz, that kind of thing. Its a convenience that I've gotten very used to. Plus, I use it for pretty much all my long distance calls. I want something reliable, with decent reception and sound quality. Not all cell phones are created equal, right?
  24. I'm looking for input on the different brands/ types of cell phones out there. Its almost time for me to upgrade, and I'm looking into what my options are, and whether its worth it to pay a little bit more for a Motorola or go with something else. I like the bells and whistles- camera, games, MP3 quality ring tones, etc., but I guess I don't really need them. And I haven't mastered text messaging! I prefer the flip phones- easeir to use, easier to hear, and harder to turn on accidently! Does anyone have any opinions on Samsung or LG phones- good or bad?

    LOST SPOILERS!

TWOP referred to the island as the Island of Bad Dads or something along those lines. Pretty funny. They really should bring Jack and Daddy Bauer there. Jack Bauer definitely has some daddy issues to work through!
