  1. There's a lot on it, and for the most part, its very good. A few misses, of course. But just listening to those songs again- my copy of Starting Over in on vinyl and I can't remember the last time I heard some of these songs. Well worth the $20.00. I understand that the iTunes version has several bonus tracks not on the CD and the CD has bonus tracks not available on iTunes. I may end up getting the CD too eventually, just for those few extra tracks.
  2. I downloaded the iTunes version yesterday. 34 tracks. I wasn't sure Id like the whole thing, but I've been hearing Green Day's "Working Class Hero" on the radio and I really loved that one, so I went ahead and bought the whole album. Too many artists try to make a song "their own" when they cover it, and with a Lennon song, that's generally the wrong thing to do. Anyway, I'm really enjoying it and I'm just amazed at how well his music holds up. Most of the artists stayed pretty true to the original versions- a real tribute. Ben Harper's "Beautiful Boy" and Jack Johnson's "Imagine" both got me a little choked up. Just curious if anyone else has checked it out and what you thought of it ..........
  3. Everyone makes mistakes and of course there are factors can can affect altitude awareness, but altitude awareness is ultimately our responsibility. Depending on a device is just another mistake, isn't it? Its the excuses that bother me- whether the jumpers in question were making them or the OP was trying to make excuses for them. Why not just say "I lost altitude awareness and I'm lucky it didn't turn out worse than it did." ???? Maybe I'm just cranky. Its not the first time I've heard an experienced skydiver try to make excuses for a cypres fire and I'm sure it won't be the last. At least he didn't blame his cypres for "trying to kill him"!
  4. You should always pay attention to your exit altitude no matter where you are jumping. At my dz on any given day, throughout the day it can range from 10K to 15K, depending on conditions, air traffic or if the pilot's feeling a little generous. I'm always a little floored at the excuses experienced skydivers can come up with for low pulls especially. Really- new DZ, low exit altitude, inaudible audibles? Does anyone actually buy that BS?
  5. I don't buy into the egg whites only bs- aren't all the nutrients in the yolk? I drink a couple of cups of coffee every day with half and half. Cream (heavy cream/whipping cream) is actually lower in carbs but I can't do that in my coffee. When you can actually see the fat floating on top of the coffee or it coats the roof of your mouth, I figure that's too much fat!
  6. Have you gotten those strips you pee on to check whether or not you're burning fat? I think they call them KetoStix or something like that? I got those when I was doing Atkins, and it always motivated me if the stick turned bright pink. As you get more into it, your body will tolerate an occasional "slip up" but in the early phases, if you "cheat" once, it can feel like starting over. And I always thought the reason I didn't feel hungry on Atkins was that I wasn't hungry. I wasn't counting calories or even looking at portion size. I ate really well on Atkins, I just ate a LOT less junk and more veggies than I usually do. The only time I felt really icky was when I did cheat and over-indulge on the carbs- it was like my body couldn't wait to get rid of them!
  7. 6 pounds is awesome! How are you FEELING without all those extra carbs? How are the sugar cravings going? Me- The scale hasn't budged this week, but I have made it to the club Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, for at least one hour of cardio each night plus some strength training. I'm happy with that even if the scale isn't moving- my endurance is improving and I'm actually seeing some muscle definition in my legs. I've been going to the gym after work, but I want to start going before work- at least for cardio. I'm usually so energized after a workout that I have a hard time going to sleep- I figure if I can go in the morning, I'll have all that extra energy at work instead. Plus, when I go after work, I get home pretty late and I'm always hungry. I end up eating dinner much later than I like to, and eating late at night isn't good when you're trying to lose weight! Anyway, my goal for next week is at least two morning workouts! The club by my house opens at 5:30am- totally do-able and I can still get to work on time. I just need to get my butt out of bed!
  8. Back when I first started jumping and I was out at the DZ every weekend and completely obsessed, I had a manager try to tell me I couldn't jump one weekend because the following week was going to be really busy. (He wanted to make sure I would be able to work!) I just laughed at him! ANOTHER manager (same company) actually let me take an afternoon off to jump. She was cool! Plus I think she understood at that point in my life, skydiving was a HUGE stress reliever for me- it made me a better worker and much more pleasant to be around! These days, I'm much more low key about it, and skydiving doesn't consume as much of my life as it once did anyway.
  9. I don't hide it, but I also don't talk about it at work. I don't even have any pictures up around my desk anymore. I got sick of the "You must be crazy" and "what happens if your chute doesn't open?" remarks. Plus, I didn't want to be "labeled" at the job I have now for anything but the work I do. And, to be perfectly honest, I probably bored a whole bunch of people to tears with all my skydiving chatter back when I first started jumping.
  10. Seven of Nine was most definitely a hottie. Does your kitty strut around like she's a hottie and she knows it? My Gizmo looked like he was at least part Maine Coon, and he had this air about him- he just KNEW he was gorgeous and loved when people payed attention to him and told him how gorgeous he was. If your kitty has that kind of personality, Annika might just suit her.
  11. I think Seven of Nine's real name was Annika before the Borg assimilated her. She's a cutie.
  12. QUIET! They FEEL pointy- make a jump in the rain with nothing protecting your neck and THEN tell me they aren't "pointy"!
  13. My whuffo friends don't understand when I talk about the pointy ends of the rain drops!
  14. Hey, I hear that. I cost me a lot of money to get current again this past weekend, but most of that was for my repack and cypres batteries!
  15. You don't have a lot of jumps and you've had a very long layoff- 5 plus years, right? AND you're going to a new DZ, right? They are going to be cautious- they have to be. $95.00 per person for what is essentially an AFP jump isn't so bad under the circumstances. Does that include gear rental also?
  16. I remember that challenge well- was that 3 years ago or just 2? Lesseeee-back when that started I was losing weight but gained it all back- at least 20 pounds since then. BUT, I've lost over 30 in the past 10 months, so I weight at least 10 pounds less than the original "Fat Bastard" challenge! I still want to lose about 20 more, but I'm content with only losing one or 2 pounds a month as long as I'm not gaining and I keep hitting the gym regularly. I think that's my best bet for keeping it off for good! I'm tired of this yoyo crap! I gave all my "fat clothes" away and the only new clothes I want to buy are "skinny clothes"!
  17. I don't think the judge is throwing everything at her simply because of who she is BUT because she behaves as though "who she is" should make her exempt from any sort of punishment. There's a big difference. She's behaved all along as if she's above the law and she still is behaving that way. If she'd been even remotely contrite and didn't treat the whole thing like a joke right up until she was sentenced, don't you think the sentence would have been more lenient to begin with? By making a mockery of the legal system, her probation and the charges pending against her, she brought this on herself. I don't see how the judge had much choice in the matter.
  18. I don't know about the files, but I would suggest using the plain CD-Rs. When I ventured into the MP3/iPod era and decided to burn a few discs, I went out and bought the CD-RW discs thinking they had to be better. It was easy enough to burn the discs, but none of my CD players would read them- they wouldn't play on anything but my computer. Apparently "older" technology doesn't recognize some of the "newer" technology. Go figure.......
  19. He looks like he's got some "Cattitude" going on! And he's chubby- he probably pushes all the other ones away from mom at meal time!

    Tattoo!

I've got one on my middle/ lower back that really should be touched up. I've had it for over 10 years and it still looks good, just faded. But dayum! It hurt like hell the first time! Plus, when I asked about it a year or so ago, I found out it will probably cost even more to touch it up than the original tattoo cost! Double the pain!
  21. I had mine taken out with both my broken ankles. The hardware was painful and limiting my ROM. My first doc was strongly in favor of hardware removal once it had done its job. He brought it up before I even knew it would bother me, but sure enough it did! He was a sports medicine specialist used to dealing with professional athletes, which clearly, I am not! I had to sell my second doc on the idea but afterwards he was like, "Oh yeah, I can see how that would have been bothering you!" (Screws digging into tendons and catching on the muscle and all!) Even when I was still sore from the surgery, I could feel the difference!
  22. Dude- skydivers don't like that movie! It is hideously bad! Putting up with a skydiver is one thing- putting up with a guy who has terrible taste in movies? That could be a deal breaker! Honestly- DropZone, Terminal Velocity and Point Break are ALL better than Cutaway. But the best one is Fandango. Classic!
  23. So your criteria is whether or not she can sit through a TERRIBLE movie with incredibly bad acting and still call you the next day? Good luck with that- you're bound to land a keeper one of these days!
