    Pet food recall

My cats eat dry prescription food (Royal Canin) since the oldest has "challenged" kidneys, however my mom (who shares my house) gives them a little canned food as a treat every night. I think she mostly gives them Friskies but now I'm going to have to raid her stash and tell her to cease and desist until this gets sorted out! The last thing my 17 year old kidney challenged cat needs is food that will CAUSE kidney failure! Guess I'll need to get to the vet's this morning, buy some "approved" treats and lay down the law with Grandma!

    Nutro is on the list.
  3. I read a very angry emotional outburst written by someone who just lost his dog, but nothing to indicate the animal hospital was at fault in any way. And if it had been MY dog, I might have felt the very same way. I know I'd be sad, angry and looking for answers. I completely understand and identify with what he's feeling, but that doesn't mean the vet killed his puppy! He really has no idea what happened or why, and he'll probably never know. There is ALWAYS a risk with any surgery, and surgery on animals has to be even riskier because you can't take a medical history from an animal or ask it how its feeling!
  4. WOW! Absolutely nothing in his post indicates the vet did anything wrong. Kind of the opposite, in fact. I don't know of too many animal hospitals that do lab work on 6 month old puppies prior to a spay or neuter procedure. It indicates that they were thorough and careful, but even under the best of circumstances, things can happen. Its really sad and unfortunate, but nothing he's posted so far indicates anything other than that. I'm all in favor of "outing" a negligent animal hospital, but none of us have any way of knowing what happened with this puppy, aside from the fact that she died unexpectedly. Magic, you (or Cindy Lou's owner) can probably ask for or insist on an autopsy, but it will be done at your expense and won't necessarily prove anything.
  5. I'm sorry for your loss. I hate hearing stories like that, and any time one of my furry friends goes in for a "routine procedure" I can't relax until I know he's out of surgery and awake. Unfortunately, the fact that your puppy appeared healthy and all the pre tests came back normal doesn't mean there wasn't something wrong. Spaying is an invasive procedure (good for most dogs and cats in the long run for a number of reasons) and any time anesthesia is used, there is a risk. I had a cat with a congenital heart condition that wasn't diagnosed until he was 6 or 7 years old. Any surgical procedure could have killed him and like you, I wouldn't have known why. I'm very lucky that his condition was caught almost accidently by a very caring and thorough vet. The diagnosis and treatment gave me a few extra years with a very special pet. I'm sorry your time and your family's time with Cindy Lou was cut so short.
  6. Is removing the hardware an option? I'm neither a physical or strength conditioning trainer but I have stayed at a Holiday Inn Express! Honestly, I think your first step is to see your doctor for an xray to see what's going on with the screws. I doubt there is any kind of strengthening or exercise that will eliminate the irritation. You've got relatively large screws in small bones and not a whole lot protecting them. And even if you want to be a tough guy and work through the pain, you should make sure you aren't causing any nerve or tendon damage. You worked pretty hard to get that strength back, and I'm sure you don't want to undo all of that! I've had two ankle injuries requiring surgery and hardware and the only way for me to make as full a recovery as possible was to have the hardware removed after its job was done. The screws caused bone pain, dug into tendons and caught on my muscles. I can't even imagine how screws in my hand would feel!
  7. I've read this before, however I do have a cat with a sweet tooth. He loves cake and cookies, and he'll beg and climb all over me when I've got a piece of cake or a sweet roll. I always need to share just a little bit or I can't eat in peace! He's even licked the jelly off a piece of toast! None of my other cats care about sweets. Every cat I've ever had liked ice cream, but that's mainly because of the dairy.
  8. The loads turned at a somewhat lazy pace, which was actually pretty nice. You could relax, swim or sunbath between loads. Manifest is located at Carlos and Charlies, right on the main beach in Ixtapa. There's a pool there and plenty of lounge chairs. You can hang out all day and bring your own food and water, or order from them. The plane flies out of the main airport in Zihua which is about 20-25 ride, and because it flies out of the main airport, there were some times during the day when they needed to shut down for an hour or so to accomodate air traffic. Most of the resort hotels in Ixtapa are walking distance and share the same beach. (There are a few Ixtapa resorts which are just outside town.) There are a handful of "budget" hotels off the beach which are also walking distance. Ixtapa is kind of one long "strip" and pretty much every place in Ixtapa is walking distance. Zihuatanejo is about a 15 minute cab ride away- prettier beaches and lots more restaurant and hotel options there- from elegant high end to super cheap. When I went, I stayed in Zihua and took a $5.00 taxi ride to the "DZ" everyday. I did that because a) I love Zihua and prefer staying there over Ixtapa, and b) I found it much less expensive to stay there. The money I saved on my hotel more than made up for the daily cab fare. You definitely do not need to rent a car unless you plan on leaving the area for more extended sight seeing, and even then you could use taxis or busses. There are several different websites with info on the area- just google either Ixtapa or Zihua. Since its Easter week, book early because the area fills up fast. Bring your own flotation gear, plenty of rubber bands and a spare closing loop or two since there isn't a full service gear store nearby for the little essentials we tend to take for granted. The landing area is great- plenty big, and nice soft sand. Have fun!
  9. What do you need to know? I went a couple of years ago.
  10. Soooooo, if someone just happened to come across a "Welcome to Rainbo Village" sign, are you saying it woudn't be a nice addition to your summer home?
  11. I heard the same ad! I wanted to drive by and steal a sign for your trailer! I used to live right around the corner. I think it might be named for the old roller rink they tore down about a year ago. That place was there forever!
  12. I don't know who would hate that more- me, my SO, or the cats!
  13. I like the Mr. Boneless Chicken Wing Inventor ONLY because of the "I hope I'm not eating rear end" line!
  14. I know nothing about leg irons and handcuffs. If you want custody or visitation of those items, you'll need to speak to someone else. And I don't think you want Roger the incredible farting cat in your trailer for an extended period of time! Seriously, he could make Rainbo's baked bean experiment look like child's play! Then again, he'd fit right in with you guys, but we'd have to mark off the outside of the trailer with BioHazard tape! Its only fair to warn people, right?
  15. The bed is yours, but you need to pick it up. Its in our crawl space. There's a really nice headboard too, but its a little on the girly side!
  16. You're welcome to the waterbed, but as far as the rest?
  17. Maybe the butch anti social gay neighbors will be so offended by the homophobes across the street that they'll move and sell their home to a much more flaming (and more social) gay couple. This could all work out to your wife's advantage! They'll think they are getting revenge, and your wife will have some new gay friends to hang out with!
  18. My long haired cat likes to be vaccummed- just a small hand held one. Its funny to watch- the other guys run away as soon as they hear it and he just sits there and waits for his turn!
  19. I miss my water bed, and that one is pimping! But just to be practical, keep in mind that waterbeds are a pain in the ass to make, and water bed sheets aren't easy to find, so you're less likely to get the good ones on sale, and round water bed sheets will be even harder to find. I just bought a Simmons Beauty Rest- queen size- and it fits me, the SO and the cats comfortably. I'm sleeping better than I have since I "retired" my waterbed a few years back. The SO claimed it hurt his back, but it was the most comfortable bed I ever slept in! I think the new one is 2nd to my waterbed, but sometimes you need to compromise!

    I just...

If only you had Roger, the amazing farting cat with you! He'd fit right in!
  21. What legal shit and what rules? This is entertainment, pure and simple. They've got disclaimers all over the place, the contestants sign all sorts of waivers and there is no real integrity to the voting process. Their ratings would be in trouble, that's about it! That's why they throw the viewers a "bone" every now and then by allowing an "everyman" to stay in the competition way longer than he deserves, or by "crowning" an illiterate unwed mother, an obese mama's boy or a likeable but ordinary guy next door. They take a hit on future record sales in favor of ratings and advertisement dollars.
  22. Well, it could be they throw in a few "underdogs" as winners so they can keep up their charade that "America" chooses the winner! As underwhelming as their post idol careers have been, I also don't see either of them winning legitimately with the public's votes either.
  23. I agree that Peter will be able to fight Sylar off using his powers against him, but I think Sylar will escape. My money is on Mohinder or HRG for the newest dead guy. Mohinder appears to be stapled to the ceiling and not just held there telepathically, and HRG is in pretty deep doo doo with his bosses right now. Actually, Peter will probably find Claire (his niece) and she'll convince him to go to the paper plant to rescue HRG. Last we saw, Nuclear Dude was there, and he still has to meet him and absord his power before he blows up New York, right? I just hope Mr. Muggles is OK!

    foreclosure help

Actually, the owner would need to re-instate by paying everything he owes including legal fees, and yes, that is still possible. Once they actually set the auction date, its either already a done deal, or really close. The auctions are public-if you are serious about purchasing it, you should contact the agency handling the auction for the proper procedures- how much you'll be expected to put down, that kind of thing. And do some research in your neighborhood to get a realistic idea of what the property is worth "as is" and decide the most you are willing to pay. Also get all your ducks in a row regarding financing- make sure you qualify and can close quickly. Auction contracts tend to be "as is" without contigencies- if you can't close, you lose your earnest money, as much as 10% of the purchase price. Once you get to the auction, resist the urge to get into a bidding war if the bids go higher than what you are prepared to pay. I went to a public auction once and I was amazed at how much some of the properties went for- they weren't bargains by a long shot! Good luck! And I agree that the sale should not void your lease, but don't expect it to be renewed either!
  25. After all these years, do you guys honestly think the public's votes even matter? The producers pick their favorites early on and manipulate the results for ratings, always keeping their handpicked favorites/ winners in the mix, even if they've performed badly that week. They may pay attention to the popular vote to some extent, but they still pick the winner in the long run. They keep a few high profile sucky ones on week after week and let a few really good ones go early just so there's a little drama every week! Even if they regularly produced vote counts audited by a reputable 3rd party (which as far as I know, they don't) I wouldn't buy into the BS because they could always pay people to vote.
