I'm 44 and still get carded on occasion- when I hand over my ID, I get a surprised look. I know I look younger than I am. And I am always happy to hand over that ID! But I do remember this one time at Dave and Busters maybe 6 years ago- they did not believe my license was real (or that it was mine) and made me produce 2 extra forms of ID. They still weren't satisfied and made me sign my name a few times to compare it to the signatures on IDs I showed them. THAT was annoying- it started off as flattering but got kind of insulting!

Hey- as long as you have more cats than me, I don't feel so bad! When I took in Roger 2 months ago, I started telling people I was officially one cat shy of becoming the "Crazy Cat Lady"! I was surprised by a few people who said 4 was a perfectly reasonable number! How old is Oliver? I've taken every male cat I've had in to be fixed at six months- my vet actually won't do it any earlier anyway. (I know the shelters do!) If he's much younger than that, it might not be hormones. Simon might just be irritated and jealous that he's not the BABY anymore! And your vet ought to be giving you a volume discount! You've probably funded a wing or two and loads of new equipment over the years!

Mine 3! And Michelle, I'd raise an eyebrow and suggest an intervention over what is it now? 7? But, to be honest, your flock makes mine look almost "normal"! After all, I only have 4! lol That little bengal is going to be hard to let go- I only took #4 home to get him some medical attention, tlc and find him a home but he figured he had already found a perfectly good home with me!

Our female can howl and hiss like she's being torn apart- when you go check it out, she's perfectly safe and unharmed- usually under the leather chair where the boys can't get to her! (And at least half the time, she starts the brawl!) I had her at the vet's one time and they needed to draw blood. The policy at this animal hospital is to take the animals into another room for blood draws or any type of "procedure"! They were gone a good 10-15 minutes and I could hear her the whole time! If I didn't know my cat and the fuss she can make, I'd have burst into the room and demanded they stop torturing her! Lord only knows what the other clients thought!

Well, my male cats don't act like that, but I've raised them since they were small kittens and took them in to get fixed at the first sign of sexual maturity- right around 6 months old. If you wait too long, that "Tomcat" behavior (spraying, humping, terretorial agression, etc) is pretty tough to get rid of, from what I understand. (I think some vets feel there are also risks from doing it too soon.) My boys can play rough at times, but they are really sweet, affectionate, even tempered cats! The "UnTom" also might just be playing or he's being terretorial and doesn't want Shadow out and about in "his" neighborhood!

Has Anyone Ever Had Good Results With Hoodia or Similar?
tigra replied to ACMESkydiver's topic in The Bonfire
Sunny, I've done the ephedra thing with Xenedrine a few years back. And even though I lost a lot of weight, I don't recommend it. I gained it all back and more as soon as I stopped taking it and started eating again. Plus it made my heart race, I had mood swings, terrible heartburn, and it interfered with my sleep. At the time, I thought it was all good, because I was losing weight. So what if I was a bitch on wheels- I was wearing my "skinny jeans", right? -

Fat binder- YUK! There's "carb blockers" out there that probably do the same thing. Not for me! I was thinking of the clinics that dispense pills that decrease your appetite and boost your energy just like Trim Spa and the others do- but without the side effects and IMO- more effective. There's one near my old office, and I assume they must be all over the place. For $55.00 a month you get B-12 shots every two weeks and a 30 day supply of pills. I don't know what a 30 day supply of Trim Spa plus vitamins costs, but my guess is its about the same or more. disclaimer: There is no such thing as a "magic pill" and yes, these clinics pretty much exist just to sell the pills. BUT, they are staffed with Doctors and other medical professionals, they do take a medical history and check your weight and blood pressure at lease once a month. If you are going to go that route anyway, why not do it a little more responsibly? -

I think you are better off going to a weight loss clinic and getting a prescription. More effective with fewer side effects plus you have a professional monitoring your progress. And it probably costs about the same as Trim Spa or any of the other magic pills you can buy at the local vitamin shop. I personally don't think any of the OTC stuff is as effective as it used to be before they banned ephedra. And of course, for long term/ permanent weight loss, there is no substitute for exercise and a balanced, healthy diet .......yadda yadda yadda........ -
Debauchery and other interesting behavior often leads to lost hours, days, years or even decades! I'm SURE you had a really good time, though!

Alton Brown is cool but I'm more of a Tyler Florence fan these days. I think I'll use his brine recipe from last year, and then use his sage butter recipe from this year. I might even try his sweet potatoes. And I'll let my mom make her sausage stuffing.

Gotta love the Food Network! I promised my sister the brine recipe I used, and when I looked for it, I found this one and a few others.

Sadly, as far as I know, Skydive PV is no more....... When I was there early last March, I stayed at the hotel next door and stopped by more than once. All I ever saw was an un-manned tent on the beach. I never saw a plane, jumpers, brochures, nothing! I guess business didn't take off like they had hoped it would and they gave up before the tourist season was even over- cool location but lots of challenges............. I've got to say the beach in Ixtapa is way better for landings and the setup (almost all of the Ixtapa resorts share that stretch of beach) is also better for drumming up business. If you've already booked your PV vacation, I highly recommend the canopy (zip line) tour! Not skydiving, but it was a TON of fun! If I ever go back to PV, I would definitely go again!

The elliptical machine at the health club stopped reading my heart rate today- said "no heart rate detected" . I think I am dead too!

Use a cooler for the brine. It really isn't that much extra work and the results are great no matter how you end up actually cooking it! We're just doing a turkey breast this year, but I do plan to brine it overnight using a recipe I got from the Food Network last year. Tyler Florence rocks!

That's what I have. The pump will get clogged with hair and stuff so every now and again you need to take the whole thing apart and clean it, but it works out really well. My oldest has kidney disease, and fresh water is very important!
-
Cats want fresh water, just like us. Sometimes the water from the toilet is the freshest. And they also like to SEE the water- ice helps with that. For a long time, I'd leave the bathroom faucet dripping a little so they could have fresh water, but now that I pay my own water bill, I got one of those water dishes with the pump and fountain. That's pretty close to fresh running water and they all seem to appreciate it!

Seriously? The last new episode until February? That really sucks! I'm so glad FOX doesn't pull that crap with 24 anymore!

Most of my cats have been males, and the dogs we had growing up were all female. I think male cats tend to be a little more easy going and affectionate- at least mine have been! I do get a kick out of our calico (female) because of the way she demands affection on her own terms!
-
Mine do that, sometimes to play and sometimes just to drink the "fresh" water. And they'll get between the curtain and the liner while I'm showering- but not scared or anything. Sometimes they even get in- towards the back where the water isn't coming directly down on them. The littlest one doesn't even mind getting wet.

Rasberry Beret, Erotic City and When Doves Cry are probably my top 3. The other two slots vary depending on the mood I'm in. Kiss, Baby I'm a Star, Little Red Corvette....... There are so many to choose from! I pretty much love the whole Purple Rain soundtrack, and I remember backpacking through Europe listening to the one he recorded after that on my walkman- the one with Rasberry Beret? Yeah, I'm old!

I just thought the show was trying too hard to be "intelligent" and "cutting edge". It was a little too heavy handed for me. And Mathew Perry's character was Chandler Bing without any "Friends"! All that sarcasm without enough warmth or personality to make him likable.

I've got to say that for me, one of the best things about getting an iPod was going through my old CDs and copying my favorites onto it- stuff I hadn't played in ages! And today, I saw a stereo at the store with a turntable and a CD recorder. If I had one of those, I could get all my old vinyl out the attic and rediscover that! I haven't had a working turntable in years! So to answer your question- yes! Too many to list, I think. How about Tommy Bolin's Post Toastie? That's a jam!

Jack's in an old aquarium, and Benry did say he'd been on the island his whole life, so yes, now I think he may be the son of the couple who started it. I'm also wondering if there are other "others"- the barefoot people they showed sneaking through the jungle last season- perhaps children of previous experiment subjects whom Benry and company don't feel are "worthy" of their society? And have we seen the last of Michael and Walt? It would have been interesting to explore Walt and his "gifts" a little bit more.

I'm not sure SDC is setting up in Ixtapa again this year. The past few years, they were there on a daily basis from late Novemberish through March, working out of Carlos and Charlies right on the beach. Its been mainly for tandems but fun jumpers have always been welcome too. And even more fun jumpers show up for the boogie in February. But, like I said, I'm not sure about this year. I've only heard about boogies in Puerto Escondido- usually the week between Christmas and New Years, and Easter week. If there's more than that planned for this year, hopefully someone will post some info. I'd love to skydive there, but those two weeks are also the busiest weeks for tourists- makes it more difficult to find inexpensive accomodations without planning well in advance. The Oaxacan coast is just beautiful!

ONLY $334.00? Trust me- it could have been way worse! I swear I've paid for an entire wing at the animal hospital I go to- mostly just from routine visits and vaccinations! There are times when I think my cats get better medical care than me!) which reminds me- the "new one" (Roger) needs his booster shot! DO send the card and a picture. That's a great idea! Just make sure you address it to the whole staff because the techs and other support staff can make a huge difference in the care your baby received when she was there!
