  1. besides the closed nose design Icarus builds every canopy with a constant cell aspect ratio to better keep the cell pressurazation constant across the airfoil. I think that would have more to do with stability. I think the formed nose is there to control the openings and keep distortion of the nose to a minimum like x braces do for the entire wing. 2. Its was a mirage g3 with the thicker (type 8?) chest strap with the doubled over nub. I dont want to mince words on what the jumpers said happened but it kind of speaks for itself. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  3. Nothing in any of the jumpy scenes is left out of the movie. Its just some eye candy (or whatever) to break between scenes. I did hear epilepsy mentioned again this weekend though. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  4. Just dont let it get in the way of your traffic negotiation and overall "heads up" status. It is not a necessity but does make a big improvement even on some larger canopies, imho. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  5. A jumper this weekend had their chest strap come undone on exit. It was a 2 way dive with one person taking the others chest strap as a grip. It came undone right out of the door. The rest of the jump was the 2 of them trying to get it threaded. The jumper deployed with arms in front of them and bent at the elbows and immediatly grabbed the risers on opening. The jumper landed without further incident. CHECK YOUR SHIT! Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  6. Vote number 2 for the monkey fist. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  7. Since the "dam" for the airlocks slightly restricts (i think) the inlet of air also would that detract from the canopies cell pressure? I mean I know it would hold air in but could it also hold some air out? One example might be deep braked flight. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  8. The room for error was what I was looking to get away from. I wanted the harder dives and longer recover arc of the xf2. The auto-flare of my safire2 was starting to get to me. I dont like turning low and having to set up over the landing area that low. You're right though the performance difference probably isnt worth it for most people at that loading. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  9. People thought I was out of it when I started double fronts at about 75 jumps while they said "I wont hook until I have 1000 jumps". I did some realy cool shit on my 209 and now I feel tons more comfortable on every canopy I fly. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  10. I've also heard of someone jumping an extreme 169 (not sure fx or vx) Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  11. I jump a cf2 169 loaded about 1.4 It definetly higher performance than my safire2 169 but it definetly wants to be loaded more. I was actually kind of bored with the speed of my safire2 169 after 30 or so jumps. For now I am just puting the xfire2 through the ringers. I'm gonna need a new rig when I downsize so when I decide im ready ill have the additional wait to get "more" ready. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  12. Wow thats kinda what I liked about it. I found the editing a break from a lot of skydiving material. I would like to see more documentary material to go along with it but the movie did me just fine. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  13. What?? No pics of grouper swooping himself into the ditch? None of mike rome running for the otter struggling to get his rig on? I want justice! Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  14. There is also nothing wrong with getting a rig or main or whatever and renting a bigger rig (maybe 190 main and 176r) until you feel( and your instructors feel) you are ready to go to a 170. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  15. A friend of mine but a little gaffers tape around the end of his risers for a few jumps until they set. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  16. All that and they let us put a 2 page add for the ranch in there! I got a subscription a month ago and its really great. PS we've only gotten one complaint from the add so far! Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  17. Once again like drew said. Vectran will last if you can take care of it. I got 350 jumps out of the vectran on my safire209 before I redid the lower control lines. Plenty of life left on the rest of the lines when I sold it. I ordered my custom safire2 169 and had it in a little over a month. I would definetly talk with Simon about your situation. There is no way he would be satisfied with anyone having to wait that long for a canopy. Please dont be silent. Let him know you are unhappy so they can fix whatever problem caused you grief. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  18. I would make sure you bring it to Simon's attention. They are a much smaller company than pd and I know they wil do everything they can to make you happy. And 170 is not even close to half the life of a set of vectran lines if you take care of them. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  19. The way scott talked about it, you never notice it up top, were the wind is even stronger. He said the reason you think it is in the corner longer is because you are diving over the same piece of land for a longer period of time, not covering ground like on a no wind day. His qoute was windspeed does nothing to canopy flight except change your ground speed. Now with turbulent air, all bets are off. This is only what I was told. I dont have too much expierence being in a dive close to the ground in high winds. I prefer to do my practicing on low wind days. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  20. he was trying to earn a reputation as a bad ass crew dog and drop kicked a brick wall, then hit it repeatedly with a hammer. He's still just kentucky fried scott, though. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  21. I've been messing with my new xfire2 loaded at about 1.4 and have tried to initiate a harness turn/carve in the air with some extra speed but the g's just kinda pull me down in the harness until a lot of the speed is gone. My canopy isnt the most sensitive to harness input at 1.4 I know but I turn pretty good in full flight. Is it worth pursuing hurling myself to on side or the other during plane out or just after initial input to get a turn started or am I gonna have to rely on the toggles? Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  22. I've seen a double mal on a friends rig named miracle mike who should be dead because of loose reserve risers and an rsl. I would get it checked out. There should be a way to get it to fit right. It might be nothing. Im not a rigger either. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  23. yup. Its some kick ass shit. Its put together extremely well! Very professional. Awsome visuals too. Plus it says volume one on the cover so its bring on the sequels! Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  24. Kentucky (scotts here) broke his tib and fib on sunday after a crew jump. He was doing a camp this weekend and almost made it through. Nothing spectacular just a bad 3rd step onto the ground. Dont break yourselves. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  25. Could this be caused by having the bridal outside the pilotchute? ie Folding the pilotchute and when its in the size to put in the boc folding the excess bridal back and forth over the chute? It just looks like the bridal came out awful fast. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
