I can see the new ad campaign now! Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

The only reason I would see to psychopack a xfire2 is if you have a hard time bagging it. I couldnt ask for better openings. Now that I have down when to start steering it, its on heading the majority of the time, with the limited off headings reasonable to recover from (mostly 90 to 180). This is one sweet opening canopy no matter how you slice it (still bring it on!) Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

God damn I love that canopy. I only load mine at 1.35 (for now, 2 weeks and counting! ) Mine flew nice when I loaded it at 2.3 today on my MR bill, too! Damn that thing opens awesome! Warm ice cream rocks! Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

Reserve/Cutaway Handle Sayings
johnny1488 replied to shmali's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My favorite Cutaway - Oh no Reserve - Oh yeah Also seen C- oh shit R- SP230 Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome -
Here in new yawk, Winter means 20-30F on the ground. From the winds aloft, if I recal, I've jumped in -40 at altitude. (i dont know if thats farenheit or celcius). Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

Click on current delivery time news and scroll down for pictures. There may be other bags but this is the only one I know of. http://www.sunpath.com/ Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

So DB, I mean Bill, why did you take the military rig and the dummy reserve? Jumping from a jet with 200k just not a good enough thrill? Wanted the equivilant of a base rig to make things sporty? Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

I jump full altitude in the winter all the time (as long as we have enough to run the otter ) As long as I keep my hands and feet warm, everything else is gravy. I used to jump with a visor on my factory diver. It iced over once on a cloudy day but was fine most of the time. It was also old and all the anti-fog had worn off. I now jump w/ glasses so no need to worry. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

The rsl is designed to activate when the riser with the rsl on it leaves the container. Meaning if I had one on my javelin, and my left riser broke or my right riser didnt release for some reason, my reserve would fire. (Before you flame, I have made an educated decision to not use an rsl, but I am not saying that is the right decision for anyone else.) I'm not entirely sure how a 2 sided rsl works so I wont comment on that here. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

This is the only part I wouldnt agree with. I think by laying on the rears or toggles, you are lowering the airpressure in the canopy, slowing the canopy down enough so the force of the pressure inside the canopy can overcome the force of the relative wind holding the endcells closed. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
-
From what I have seen, it has nothing to do with packing, and has to do with the airpressure in the canopy. I have seen it more on lightly loaded canopy but I have no real evidence to support my outrageous claims. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

How far have you come since your 1st post?
johnny1488 replied to AggieDave's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My first post was in may of 2001, 3 months before I had my first rig. I probably had 40 jumps. I now have just under 700 (gotta compare my protrack with my manifest sheets!) I am all about swooping and canopy flight, just finished the coaches course, and plan on moving to the dz next year to try to "make it happen". I have spent waaaaaaaaay too much time here, but consider it an invaluabe resource, and If I can ever drag my self to a boogie or happening, would like to meet the people I have "met" here. I agree, but I wasnt talking about the riser cover problem. I was talking about the main pin cover. The riser problem was on some of the first production odyssey riser covers. The soon after modified the shape of the tuck tab to keep them from being pushed out. Not all were bad though, I have a 7-01 odyssey that has never popped open. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

No, but I think the idea of mirage being bullet proof is crap. Edited to add : all the javelins I have seen open had slopppy ass packjobs in them. I have always said they dont agree with bad packjobs. I pack my javelin so the corners are filled and the center is flat and it does not come open. Final canopy designs, need help picking!!!
johnny1488 replied to kansasskydiver's topic in The Bonfire
I went from getting colors that matched my rig to getting colors that scream "hey here I am dont fuckin kill me!!!" I got neon green and blackberry offset stripes with a different offset stripe on the bottom. Its damn ugly and I am gonna love it. 1 1/2 weeks left till delivery of my new 141. Glad to see you went with the xfire2, they rock! Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome -
No one is immune. If I had a dollar for every mirage Ive seen open in freefall, I could buy another odyssey for myself! Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

I know what you mean. I always nail headdown below 6k when I have 3 seconds of working time left. Its the denser air adjusting to the drag of my flailing legs. Who wants to find the 237 things wrong with my body position? God stretching is hard! PS please dont waste bandwidth critiquing me, Im working on it! edited to add: anyone know how to make my 114kb photo under 60 kb so you can actually see what Im rambling about? I cant seem to find the upload option in the gallery anymore so I can make my own gallery. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

I dont get how that wouldnt release. Could you elaborate? Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

I use the second method, the one with the keeper on the front of the rear riser. The only difference is I fold the excess and push it down from the top through the keeper. And I have A LOT of excess on my xfire2! Been working awesome for me for the last 60 or so jumps since I got my new risers. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

Thank P.A. for that one. Icarus felt it wise to wait until the model of the canopies was changed to put the sizing back to the proper way so there wasnt mass confusion on what size each canopy really was. The xfire and extremes have always been measured the same as PD canopies as are the safire2s and omnis now. Also, as far as I know, Icarus has never made an attempt to hide the size descrepincy. It was the first thing I was told when I went to demo a safire 3 years ago Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

You know how to pack? Dont you mean Zoli? j/k Seriously Ask manifest who has placed them selves on the list and have them point us out to you so we can start corrupting you! j/k again Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

www.icaruscanopies.com www.performancedesigns.com read. read. read! A sabre2 or safire2 would be a good choice. Read about a lot of canopies and know why you would or would not want to fly them. Inform yourself about everything you can. Listening to someone else's ideas is ok, but forming your own based on knowledge you've aquired is much better. C'mon, become a canopy junkie like me! hahaha *crack dealer laugh* Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

Changing your w/l suddenly
johnny1488 replied to motherhucker's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I've thought of this, but the way I figured, you'ld want to ditch the weight half way through the swoop. Same as putting your feet down to un-load the canopy to lower the stall speed. A wingload of 2.1 for the first half and a wingload of 1.5 for the finish and touchdown? Who knows but got me thinking a bit also Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
