why no US C130? or C141 or C17??
Praetorian replied to Praetorian's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
why not set the record attempts to be the few days leading up to or imedatly after the WFFC, that way you get the bennifit or the aircraft already there and dont interfer with the convention?? Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment. -

I can't find the reason why we cant get the USAF or air national guard transports for bigways?? Other then their currently being a little busy what with global war and global hurricane and genocide responce etc. I know its been mentioned but I searched and failed .. anyone thought of e-mailing Geroge HW Bush and seeing if he could put a word in with his kid on changing what ever policy this is?? And I dont expect family members to screw me over with a big grin and then hide behind a piece of paper written to give them the right to screw me over (I'm of the opinion the tort reform includes making the waiver a little more reasonable in what it can protect the DZ and DZ employees from) It is written extreem to scare away most stupid lawsuits quote] and we all have different definitions of what “really fucking stupid” means. The waiver allows no such personal distinction, they are written to allow the MOST EXTREEM fucking stupidity and still be suit proof! That is the first reply here I've ever seen to a sub 200 jump wannabe cam flyer that was useful, as opposed to "go see the frequent questions" or "your trolling because you want to jump with a camera under 200 jumps".... I'll go back to lurking now Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment.

OK, it was ROL but converted to BOC, I've been free flying in it (ok its more like free flail when I do it) there is about 1 to 1.5 inchs of exposed bridle between the container and the BOC pouch (I'm getting this fixed this winter) other then the bridle are there any issues with this containter I should be aware of as far as freefly goes? also to the riggers out there how hard will it be to have a bridle cover put in to protect the path from container to pouch? it seems like a simple modification but some part of my mind is screaming that it could be a nice place for a bridle to get cought and give me a pilot it tow... ok I'm paranoid Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment.

I know that it needs a repack, and if I'd been thinking I'd have had it take care of during the week, however I've been a little busy and am trying to be sure it will be jumpable saturday if I cant get it repacked before then, so yea I'm looking for the most I can stretch 120days and still not break any rules Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment.

so is the day its packed counted as day 1 or day 0? Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment.

Ok so when you get a repack is that day 1 or day 0? Also is your reserve good on day 120 and at midnight turns into a pumpkin? or is your reserve out of date as of midnight on the 119th day? Just for example say my reserve was packed on May 28th of this year(05/28/04).. is it done today(09/24/04)? or tommorow? or sunday? but clucking like a chicken in free fall will clear the clouds from you sinuses, some SDC tandem masters even have a hand signal for this .. it is critical clouds in your sinuses can cause serious health problems if you take them to the ground with you Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment.

Decible levels in freefall? In the aircraft?

Unrelated to skydiving but I have a Panasonic SV-AV100 (the tiny camcorder that records to SD cards) I'm curious if anyone knows if its Possible to fit it with a wide angle lense, I dont think it has threads so it will have to be a MacGyver job, I was guessing someone in the free fall video world had come across something like this .. pm me please Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment.

I’ve noticed that we (skydiving as a whole) talk about the risks among ourselves, show some distain for jumpers who claim skydiving is “safe” always strive to make the sport safer. We each accept that there are risks, and we discuss these freely to reduce them … EXCEPT When it comes to Tandems.. I can’t count the number of times I’ve overheard 1st time jumpers talking about how safe it was, how they were convinced (by the training/jumpmaster) despite the waiver, (which most pay only slightly more attention to then paying for their jump) that it was as safe as riding a bicycle. Is this something people do intentionally? Is it a conflict of interest? Tandems keep jump prices low; keep the planes flying etc .. or is it about introducing people to the sport? Getting our friends/family to understand what we do? … or am I wrong and in most cases first time tandem jumpers are by and large well informed about the risks both before and after their jump?? We talk a good line about personal responcibility but in this case someone being asked to pay for what they use (jump slots/useful load) is complaining and people are siding with him? I understand his position but isn't there some concept here of paying for what you use? To those who attacked him personally grow up, talk about the issue or go somewhere else Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment.

Typical wingloading at diff. experience levels
Praetorian replied to DZJ's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
my first student jump at SDC was under a Saber2 210.. I did most of the rest of my jumps under a 190.. finished off under a 170, and if I had not already bought a 170 I MIGHT (probabally not) have considered a 150.. I'm happy under my 170 at just over 1:1.. typically they tell students to take their body weight add 40 and then grab the next size UP from that for their first AFP jump (in my case 160+40 = 200 so I started at 210) I think the longer coaching period in AFP(18 jumps) vs AFF(7?) and the great skill and attention of the coaches makes this safe .. safer then people learning on Manta 288s and then jumping imeditally to 200s or smaller Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment. -
Typical wingloading at diff. experience levels

for me and a healthy female to be loaded identically she's likely to be on a smaller main (as women are USUALLY smaller then men) 1:1 under a 170 and 1:1 under a 135 are not even close to the same thing 1.2:1 under a 190 and 1.2:1 under a 107 are night and day, unless I miss my guess that is why women are usually loaded lighter for same experience/skill For example you and I are loaded almost identically but I bet you can fly circles around me ... skill and chute both Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment. -
quote] "Make sure one of your nuts are not under one of the leg straps". Walking to the Cessna for my 4th or 5th jump ever I stopped to "adjust" and the jump master saw grabbed the two other guys on the way to the plane (other students) and said "The dropzone is one place where it is totally accetable to adjust your shit.. because the first time you need to and you dont .. will be the last time you need to" Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment.

Typical wingloading at diff. experience levels

Ok I know I'm asking for trouble here but as "rules" is this a hard and fast thing or is it more of a guideline? I was at 1:1 still on student status at skydivechicago at 70 jumps (and for the last 40+ and probably the next 200+ ) I've been jumping at or just over 1:1 (170 main, I weigh 160 without gear) I dont think I'm riskie, I can already do most of bill's famous list, still working on refining and getting more comfortable with some of it, and I'm in no hurry to downsize I paid a lot for my main and its fun to fly but in no way do I feel foolish or riskie to be at the loading I'm at.. I don't think I'm anything special I just think that the training at SDC is better then most dropzones. Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment. -
from my experience stoping and starting... go as far as you can, save money in the off season and start again, the more experience you have to think about during the off season the more use you can get out of that time. Actually with the exception of the newest shuttle (and thats only because it has a docking port for a laptop) my TI 85 calculator is a match(or close to a match) for the entire shuttle fleet's computing power Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment.
