  1. I think your right people do take their rigger for granted, I really don't care how it looks as long as it opens when I need in and not before Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment.
  2. I picked ~1.1:1 but keep in mind I had MUCH more extensive training that 7 aff jumps. and had been jumping with coaching progressively form ~.8:1 to ~1:1 to ~1.1:1 while on student status Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment.
  3. Don't know about the neptune or vigil but the paper work on the protrack notes their own special way of tracking speed (skydiver speed) which assumes a constant air pressure of 7K and uses that to calculate from .. I think ... I've only read the paperwork once and don't have it with me... might want to be sure both devices are doing the math based on the same assumptions before you try to compare them.. alt and speed are interconnected when you are doing the measurement based on pressure change Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment.
  4. sex was only "safe" because the world was not yet aware of the dangers ... some still are Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment.
  5. I've seen this a lot, I asked a very experienced jumper about AADs, got good advice then asked if he had one... the answer.(paraphrase) "It's only real purpose on a senior skydiver is if I get knocked cold/incapacitaied, my reserve is so loaded that I probabily would not survive a landing under those conditions anyway" REALLY MADE ME WONDER Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment.
  6. The long day thing (most likely) includes other factors, carbonmonoxide from exaust, dehydration, and redcell turnover ... redblood cells "die" faster when you blood goes acidic (too much CO2). These same things still occur but to a lesser extent when you run on O2 all day Breathing O2 will drive CO out of your blood faster than just normal air, will also HELP keep your blood PH from dropping Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment.
  7. I threw a Phat 360 R front Riser HOOK and swooped that FOREVER ... Cuz the ground was still 6000 ft below and for a LONG LONG while thats as close as its gonna be when I play with my front riser turns. I'v done 3 or 4 HAHO (well the civilian no oxygen carried versions anyway) GREAT view, You can really really really push your main as hard as you've ever pushed it. You LEARN a ton, just don't make the mistake of thinking because you tried it up high you've got any chance of surviving it down low. ASK YOUR INSTRUCTORS. I did my first High opening to find the limits of my main, A Deep Hard Stall, knowing this could end in a cutaway. First time I tried flat turns, riser turns, rear riser flair (up to the stall point) the difference in feeling between slowly bringing the toggles all the way down and STABBING them down hard. I spooked myself with one or two of these but I was last out, open High, had the air to myself (lookout for Traffic anyway) and had tons of alt to fix any problems I might have caused.... I hate snow, I hate cold, I miss the sky Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment.
  8. NOTE THIS IS NOT AN ATTACK JUST AN OBSERVATION IT IS NOT DIRECTED AT ANY ONE, BUT I AM USEING THIS QUOTE AS A CASE IN POINT Karma is a copout, if someone is intentionally bad (legally or morally) to me or mine ... which I like to think includes all skydivers ... I want them punished, or made to make right their wrong, in this life in some real tangable way ... not some mystic mombojumbo karma or heaven/hell next life I see this karma thing a lot on here, and it's lame if you don't want to try and fix the problem (and trying to fix the problem is what I see the original seller trying to do .. even though the mistake was honest and not intentionally "bad") don't make the failure of the system or the lack of attempt to bring justice feel any better to yourself or others by invoking the mystic warm fuzzy Karma poliece ... sorry for the rant Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment.
  9. Now I'm gonna ask a dumb question (you have been warned) give me one good reason why given the choice between a 109 and a 143 Reserve (or a X reserve and a reserve 60-90% bigger) that will fit your container you would go with the smaller reserve ... for the purpose of this price is not a good reason unles the price dif is 2X or greater and ASSUME they are both PD quality in construction/lifetime/flight profile Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment.
  10. by the time you decide you've messed up and move to open you Reserve you have already hit.. or if you have a LONG arching chute your reserve MIGHT me at line stretch... besides its against human nature your gonna try like hell to pull yourself out of the corner Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment.
  11. Had a jumper (I'd post his name but I can't remember it) trying to sell me a Sabre2 135 I think.. maybe smaller, when I was looking for my first set of gear. I told Him what my experience was (30 jumps smallest main to date 190) and his responce "you'll be fine the Sabre2 only starts to fly well when loaded over 1.3 to 1 anyway" Even at that level I knew this was BS. but due to that experience I was considering a SAM 150 as a first main and actually thought that was a good idea for a while .... then I pulled my head out of my ass. Thankfully I got my head clear before I ended up by chance talking to Brian Germain, what an ass I would have sounded if I had told HIM I was thinking of a sam loaded 1.2:1 as a first main fresh off AFP Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment.
  12. (nitpick and tease) of course you can "terminal velocity " is just the point where the drag on an object equals the pull of gravity. A slip of paper dropped whole or crumpled will reach terminal velocity, it will just reach it sooner (and slower) uncrumpled. (end nitpick and tease) Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment.
  13. ITS GREAT, I love the emphasis on training, am a little worried about the limited supply of coaches to begin with. I also like the idea of being able to test to a higher wingloading before the next lisence. HOWEVER, I feel you wingloading chart begins slightly too conservative and then jumps to too liberal at the end. I would have been over my limit till I got my B, with no test out I would have had to UPsize after my afp course... and why allow someone to jump to unlimited? is it the theory that by that time they will have the judgment not to kill themselves? why not continue with the prove you can fly it stratagy up into the 2:1 range? say you cannot fly a main until you have completed the A-D skill requirements on a loading within .2 of your intended main? Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment.
  14. The answer is education, REQUIRE some formal flying/landing skills for each lisense beginning with A. I was SAFELY under a 1.1:1 before I was off student status BECAUSE I WAS PROPERLY TRAINED, my instructors had finnal say over my progression. My 1(beer) main is about 1.12-1.15:1 depending on what I've eaten and what I'm wearing, due to weather in the summer the field at SDC (skydive chicago) can have a HUGE apparent altitude shift (hot and humid) which I took serious note of on those days. Give the wingloading chart as a suggestion, require certain skills be demonstrated to exceed it by different amounts, say up to .2 over with a course, up to .3 over with a course and X, Y and Z skills demonstrated. No exclusions, let people demonstrate those skills with the main they have in order to keep flying it. Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment.
  15. You pays you money (or not) you takes your chances. I jump one, I got it used. The people who are fans have reason and are willing to pay the price, hell I'd love a nice new Porsche for the price of a KIA . . . don't think its worth it don't buy it. But when you start a conversation about what a simple BACK UP device is worth don't get pissie when that discussion has a lot of voices who think differently then you, thats why its a disscussion Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment.
  16. I'm in the wrong hemisphere Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment.
  17. while I realise your comment was a shot at his position, I'll keep my AAD and my 170 for the time being thanks. Oh and I won't feel that I'm doing so is cuz I'm a fuckup . . . in fact I think this choice is a good arguement that I'm not a fuckup. Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment.
  18. ***Avoid inhalation of the dust from the cremated remains, since there may be health risks.[/quote What health risks???? I mean as long as you don't huff the deceased, I don't see how you could accidentaly inhale enough ash to do measureable damage. Any one who claims biohazard status for ash really needs more time with a basic biology text Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment.
  19. had it happen once, wearing gloves, took only a quick second to realise what was happening, fortunatly I pull a little higher then some/most. cleared my airspace and used both hands to clear it ... two seconds later it hit me I had moved to fast and not watched what I was doing, if I had needed to cutaway it would have been a bad day, second time I had hand problems, second time I cleared the problem and then thought about how bad it would have sucked if I had needed to cutaway. The first time my main started twisting up and I grabbed the risers to fight it, sure enough it twisted my hand into the risers and trapped it. both times I kept altitude awareness. Lessons learned after the second time 1 slow calm and careful would have prevented the problem 2 I should have learned that on the ground, or at least after the first time Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment.
  20. Done it once, my 1st(beer) 12way at the end of a long training camp weekend, my 1st(beer) jump with a B lisense (jump #70 total) the planed break off had everyone of the less experienced jumpers pulling by 3000, when I started tracking one of the other novices was tracking right with me so I turned a little, Traked "harder" a "little" longer and pulled just over 2500ft. Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment.
  21. I have a small 2" by 3" patch (Gir from Invader ZIM if your curious) I'd like it on the reserve flap.. Is this safe/in no danger of voiding the TSO I'd have a rigger do it so it would withstand freefall and no stitch would accidently go where it shouldn't Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment.
  22. Set my ego aside, listened to my coach (THANKS Nanette) ASKED every question I thought of to the point of annoying everyone at the DZ (Thanks everyone at SDC) and on this websight (thanks DZ.comers) Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment.
  23. 17 to 20 you should be OK, cold but ok... 30K... how long is your bail out O2 gonna last, can you spiral off enough alt in that time? oh and its gonna be damn cold. . . the OK from 20 is assuming you werent already having problems on the plane. . this also assumes some personal experience and calm about jumping Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment.
  24. I'm Supprised that you would put looks(1) ahead of Safety(4)(5) and what you can afford(2) by your list of 5 for my first rig my order was 2,5,4(limited choice here as mine was used),1 3 Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment.
  25. wow, I'm gonna get torn for this but here goes... WHAT ABOUT NEVER GIVE UP? Don't get me wrong I'm very glad he's alive and hopefuly will recover fully Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment.
