First Time Traveling with Rig !!!??
dharma1976 replied to skygypsea's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
BEER!!!!!!! I have had absolutely no problems travelling iwth my rig, in fact I usually carry it onto the plane over my shoulder...the TSA guys are either like so what (arizona) or intrigued (New York) I also dont have a cypress in my rig so it is a little easier. But when I did they did this funny swab test where they rubbed the entire backpad of my old rig, untiil I said hold on a second why dont you take a look at this and explained to them the flaps and what not to ever cut. Downwind Landing vs. Low Turn
dharma1976 replied to jumpjunkie2004's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
downwind crosswind in wind is better than a low turn....unless the low turn is done in a manner that keeps your canopies lines at stretch on both sides... this can be done by doing a "flat" turn or by even keeping both toggles used in the turn keeping the canopy pressurized...but a flat turn at your jump numbers is probably the safest way...but when in doubt (and having not played with these methods up high) downwind or crosswind is better than pounding into the ground. cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing. -
I'm pretty sure Stu knows why Of course, it's entirely canopy dependant. Blues. Ian I am sure stu knows as well, but I am a wise ass and couldnt help myself...l. do a search for mooth ;-) dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.

On a Navigator I am sure it will.... on my canopy I find that it will go further if I plane it out myself...and i think I might be able to get a brian germain diagram showing why you go further if you do it ;-) Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.

My rotator cuff is hurting just thinking about using rears on that http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.

Ok what canopy should i buy from this list
dharma1976 replied to airborne82nd's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Right, so would you agree that the Sabre2 was a good canopy to learn on? Do you feel like you would have done as well if you had gone to a canopy like the XF2 in the first place to have learned on? Absaposalutely I think it was a great choice and then was told after about 240 jumps or so and a shitload of coaching by my DZO that I could move on but to remember to walk before I ran :-P Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing. -

dharma1976 replied to airborne82nd's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
See, that's what I'm talking about. The Sabre2 is one of the best all around canopies on the market. Its not hard to make the canopy fly with just a little bit of trying. see but now on my crossfire after learning all that stuff on the sabre2 I can clear 1/2-3/4s of the eloy landing area...ooo I cant wait until I finally implement al of what I learned from Brian Germain last weekend ;-) Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing. -

It was something like 1.3 or 1.4. Not an unusual wingloading for a Sabre2 jumper. I was taking a sabre 2 170 150 feet at 1.2... And a sabre 2 150 at abotu 1.3-1.4 200 feet Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing. -

dude you could swoop a 170 at your weight...it isnt the canopy it is the pilot Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing. -
WHy dont you call Brian and have him put on the swoop lineset :-P that might be a good start that will keep you jumping the same wing for a while... and jumping a wing at 1-1 is not such a bad idea...I would load that 170 a bit more than you, but would be able to show you what a 170 can truly do... I knwo that Brian will be in Lebanon Maine this weeekend if you are located nearby...why dont you go talk to him ;-) Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.

Because he wanted to know where to get some in Florida...or maybe he likes john and companies style... Johns a great freeflier and instructor and he will let you know how mooth you are if you fuck up... experts? which swoop canopy is the most docile?
dharma1976 replied to airborne82nd's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I know it is a bit of a drive...but Brian Germain is teaching a course in Norway, I definately found the pilot to have a positive recovery arc whihc is really good for your average everyday flier...you can get it to do things...but it definately takes work... see if you can get a demo Sabre2 150 I switched to one after jumping the Pilot and plowing myself into the ground on it.... experts? which swoop canopy is the most docile?
dharma1976 replied to airborne82nd's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I agree...sabre 2 is a much better learning canopy for swooping...shit I did most on my learning on two different ones...and now the crossfire... I like the Xfire 2 a lot I think it is a great all around canopy...not for the faint of heart though...so perhaps a sabre2 is the way to go for the author of this thread... cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing. -

dharma1976 replied to airborne82nd's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
With the right technique you can make it dive....just ask my titanium ankle....I had no idea what I was doing and I thought the same thing you did...until I dove it into the ground... technique technique technique oh yeah and a shitload of coaching.... Max Wingloading for 280 jumps
dharma1976 replied to KevinSpencer's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
you know whats funny I just watched a guy loaded at 1-1 destroy his pelvis on a 170 sabre 2... those sabres turn awful quick when you start jabbing at things... you know its amazing to me that people dont understand what can be done with larger canopies...it comes down to "its not the shoes that makes the basketball player"... it helps but it really is the pilot that makes the canopy fly and not the wing. so maybe your buddy needs to go through the downsize check list and then when he has completed that...then he should take brian germaines advanced canopy course and see what he can really do with his canopy... Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing. -
yeah this is what I have been doing on my Xfire2 Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.

Max Wingloading for 280 jumps
dharma1976 replied to KevinSpencer's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
jeff should totally buy the 150 sabre or the 149 safire that would be a sick as hell canopy for quite some time... I used to get like 100-150 feet swoop easily out of the sabre 2 150 loaded about the same then he should seek out scott miller or brian germain and get a lot of coaching so he doesnt have to buy one of my "got titanium?" shirts Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing. -
Max Wingloading for 280 jumps
dharma1976 replied to KevinSpencer's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
so he has 280 jumps under the turbo z at 1.33 how many total.. what is his canopy flying experience/wish... and by the way the DZO knows his flying and is mosty likely making a wise decision based on what he does under it... Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing. -
okay I just put in 4 jumps on a samruai 120... I dig it...but now I might just go try those same techniques I learned jumping the sam....and apply it to my crossfire and see what happens...and then go back and try it again... Definition of a Hook Turn
dharma1976 replied to BrianSGermain's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
seems kinda semantic to me.... I would say a hook turn is what broke my ankle and the stab out was what saved my life... but then a hook turn has also afforded me some fun landings when I have the appropriate setup and execution.... how about we go with "pull and pray" and well planned and modified while turning high performance landing Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing. -
unless you hit a pine tree with a double mal then you get the nickname miricle mike or you have someone elses main wrapped around you with the lines twisted around you but you magically get 3 cells open and you land it and only break one arm... then your name gets changed from bubbles to hand of god.
