I am with you on that I demod the 120 last week and I dont like tampering with it I will stick to my crossfire :-P on a sidenote ... dave I am getting ready to throw down a 666 jump complete with iron maiden as the soundtrack you on? yay a pissing contest the thing that causes the collapses is rapid transfer from one to the other I know I have experienced it... if you do things smoothly...there will be less of a chance of this happening.... I tend to fly right before my turn in like 1/2 brakes and then while I am releasing the brakes...I start a mooth harness input and get my hands in the dive loops....then I start my riser turn.... the trick is to maintain positive pressure on the lines.... cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.

I persnally like how a crossfire lands when using a straight in approach from an L pattern which I have only done a handfull of times on mine... but I will say this... there will be times you will need to slide this thing likes to fly...and has a lot of low speed lift in it so if you dont mind flying it all the way to the end you might need to flare it a lot more than you are used to in order to have tippie toe touch down landinds even straight in... LEARNING how to swoop, long or short recovery arc?
dharma1976 replied to jheadley's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Truthfully stick with a semi tapered (sabre 2 safire 2 Nitron etc) while learnign how to swoop they will be a lot more forgiving...and believe it or not you can swoop a sabre 2 170 I did it for 150 jumps...got I watched my friend hippie swoop a sabre1 170 a shit load every day he had like 1000 jumps on it before he decided to downsize to a 150 elliptical and you know what he was consistant... so before you think you need to go and buy some crazy swooping canopy to learn how to swoop...remember the sabre2 or safire 2 are great canopies to learn to swoop on...shit a 7 cell like a specter or an omega will do its not the canopy its the pilot... (Does anyone else remember the whole basketball shoe phenom in the 80s where all the kids you were friends with felt like if they got better basketball shoes they could play better basketball????) Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing. -
Ah, but that way you run the risk of them finding out when they discover you're in hospital with a couple of broken bones. I didnt tell my mom I had broken myself until like 5 days after :-P jsut didnt feel like dealing with the noise until I had filled the scrip.... dharma1976 replied to adventurechick's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I had my first one in eloy and then had some at the ranch soon thereafter in the 90's I have landed off a total of I think like 10 times in my 600 jumps... Your lack of knowledge or experience doesn’t change the situation. Let me give you the number of the rehabilitation center where one of my friends is spending the next year of his life and let him talk to you about under loading a modern cross braced and it collapsing on him at 50 feet. A cross-braced is a little different animal than a simple elliptical. The XF2 is not a cross-braced canopy, but it is a HP canopy. If the manufacturer is recommending a minimum of a 1.4 there is a reason for it. I’d give them a call and ask why if I were looking at jumping one extremely under loaded. And as for under loading a X-braced, knowing what I know now I’d never do it. Just a quick FYI... johnny1488 is one of the best resources I know of when it comes to questions about Icarus canopies so his responses to this question are probably the most valid on here... johnny1488 is also the guy I go to when I want to demo icarus canopies btw Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.

Crossfire 2 flight Characteristics Questions
dharma1976 replied to aneblett's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I have flown this crossfire 129 with... 18" risers easy to turn but short as recovery arc 21" risers fun as hell had to use a bunch of harness to get it to turn easily 24" risers no longer pulling on risers to turn, harness turns with hanging on front risers in a crunch position what I reccomend is this try em all and fly what you like man.... some are harder to find around the dropzone to borrow the 18s were a borrow...I own a set of 21's and a set of 24s the 24s are what is on my canopy now...I may wind up putting the 21s on the 119 when I find one for sale and then try the 24s on it... Cheers and safe swoops Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing. -
Nope. Pins sometimes slide on their own. Sometimes they get moved by users when they do a pin check. Pin seating is one of those little things we should be checking before we use the rig. It's part of my morning pre-jump check, and when I see a tandem or student rig at the boarding area I always take a casual glance through the plastic window and check the pin seating. Maintenance issue like this are one of the reasons I don't want to see the repack cycle extended for commercial users. . These are reasons I really like tom http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.

Crossfire 2 flight Characteristics Questions
dharma1976 replied to aneblett's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I use 24's and had my brakes lengthened like 5-6 inches when the canopy was almost brand new...(moved in 2 inch increments)..this took care of the buffeting etc... I have put 150 or so jumps on the canopy and I think it is time to add some more brake line especially with all the high pull fun I have been doing... Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing. -

Technique technique technique.... you know its funny...at first coming from the sabre2 platform to a crossfire 129 I was like woah the riser pressure is heavy... but what I discovered was that it really has to do with technique...try this and it worked for me really well... set up your turn in deep brakes...on a crossfire deep brakes is like hip or lower... then when you are reaching for your risers kick the harness and kick it hard...I am usually like sideways in my harness...then steer the rest of it with your fronts... I was clearing 1/2-3/4's of the eloy landing area using that technique.... edited to add...I also switched to 24" risers recently so instead of pulling on the risers I am hanging on them while doing a crunch into the harness turn... or maybe some of us actually fried way too many brain cells in the nineties on acid, e, cocaine, heroin, k, freebase...etc and really truly like the stuff.. Dave PS: I gave all that up and used skydiving and beer to cope http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
