  5. two in the door one in front float gives countlet the two out drag the inside person down the hill while he gets smaller... Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  6. well if you are flying the 135 right now (which I think you are) you shoudl try the canopies in the size you are currently jumping, it will giv eyou more of a reference point in what you are doing. I just dropped a size in the same canopy type, and it was a huge difference so dropping a size and changing platforms can really throw you for a loop... 7. listen to this so that you dont do stupid stuff and unload your lines http://archive-b02.libsyn.com/andueMh2bXaWeZR2l3mdqJelZXKX/podcasts/skydiveradio/sr14_11_08_05s.mp3 Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  8. there is no hard definition of this, there are different canopies... for your experience however there is a rule of thumb... dont make anything but minor adjustments on final. read that book I told you to buy... listen to brian Germain on skydive radio old episodes. He talks about this here http://archive-b02.libsyn.com/andueMh2bXaWeZR2l3mdqJelZXKX/podcasts/skydiveradio/sr14_11_08_05s.mp3 Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  9. welll duh talk about difference from sea level...of course you cant start your turn as low as John and Mike... So Johnny what altitude do you start your turn in Eloy, with an extra 1000 Ft (appx) from us ASL... Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  10. its good to drill up top for dropped toggles... practice grabbing your rear per one side after initiating a front riser turn up top.... so that way the muscle memory thing happens when you drop a toggle and it probably will happen at some point, be prepared, my buddy does this and I have watched him grab his rear in a panic and not just save his ass but have a nice swoop... 11. BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER!!!!! http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  12. yes, I would like to see. I can vouch for this as well...they are definately not in the corner at all...I think I start my 180 higher than they do, wierd... 13. Changes can be good (ie. the new weight restriction rule). Which rule changes don't you like? if you read the entire posting here, it is the fact that although he was on the PST previously based on merit, and has won medals at nationals, Jims new rules require him to go through the CPC which is located 3 hours from his home at one dropzone (Crosskeys), and for some reason the Ranch refuses to host CPC (I think it is personal rift in swooping) SO therefore having lost his pro status due to a rule change, he is no longer allowed to swoop in the PST or any higher level events other than ones that are not thrown by Jim Slaton Thats what I am reading into it. 14. I said all of these until one day I got a little turf surf by accident to get myself out of a puddle and was like hmmm that is fun so I tried to start doing it at like 200 jumps at 260 I left a divot and wound up with titanium upsized to a sabre2 170 jumps 261-265 I swore I wouldnt swoop again jumps 266 decided I would and carved a 90 and got some nice swoop out of a sabre2 170 jumps 266-425 learning to swoop under a sabre 2 170 jumps 426-495 swooping under a sabre2 150 jumps 495 - 680 swooping under a crossfire 2 129 somewhere in there I got a shitload of canopy coaching and instruction by brian germain and was told maybe it just might be a good idea to downsize one size 680-693 (current) learnign to fly the 119 crossfire2 and all of this after I swore swooping was going to be much later in my career... so my reccomendation...wait hone your skills get coachign on pattern accuracy and general flying of your canopy...learn how all of your control inputs affect how your canopy flies...and ask a shitload of questions...remember you do not have to rewrite the book, many people before you learned the hard way so perhaps you dont have to... Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  15. I love my XF2, I just sold one of em and bought another one after demoing a few other canopies.... I load mine a little under 1.7lbs per sq ft and it flies like a champ, digs out quickly, flies nice on rears, flies really far and I love it a whole lot!!! I would say that perhaps coming from a triathalon you might want to fly a safire2 or sabre 2 or lotus or somethign of that ilk as they give you a huge amount of buffer if you screw up and it can happen, I learned almost everythign I know abotu swooping on a sabre2 170 (up until I took brian germains advanced canopy coure which I cant reccomend enough) cheers and safe swoops Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.

  20. Oy. I used to be one of those freeflyers. Then, after not getting into a couple belly formations, I made sure to devote at least a jump or two a weekend to it. I was swooping down to belly formations within 20 jumps or so. It really doesn't take much to learn. If you have freeflyers who can't devote a jump or two a weekend to learning how to belly fly down to a formation, then IMO they are not current enough to be standing underneath that formation. If they are current and not willing to put the jump time in, then they deserve not to get there. It's also been my experience that launching bases bigger than three people is much harder than launching a base and having the hangers swoop down. If you have more than a few freeflyers on a bigger base it tends to go headdown. Just my two cents. Brie see thats sad I have not dedicated much time to belly flying, but I can sure as hell launch a 4 way fairly easily and I can swoop my self down to a formation quickly too and I have like maybe 40 belly jumps not including student status Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  21. well you can start by telling those freefliers taht belly flying is a part of freeflying other than that you can launch a six way or 8 way from most doors if you plan it right we usually launch a 3-4way and then have everyone come down to it Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  22. whats the worst thing that happens you fall off :-P you have a prachute... get silly have fun and do silly as things... but remember all youe safety shite :-P and heres one work accuracy work it a lot...find someoen to teach you accuracy cause one day it will save your arse...(and its kinda fun to be able to land where you want) Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  23. Perhaps in not knowing better you were reqally asking if you should go to a semi elliptical cnaopy like a sabre 2 or Safire 2 the sabre2 and safire 2's are both great canopies that will fly very fast if you want to and at the same time can fly in a more docile manner a great canopy to fly at under 500 jumps... I learned almost everything I know abotu swooping under a Sabre2 170...and then downsized to a sabre2 150 for another 150 jumps before I moved to elliptical... trust me you will be happy (and so will your bones) that you fly a SEMIEliptical (really tapered, not really elliptical) canopy in this time period as opposed to moving to a heavily tapered canopy... Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  24. if you talk to Brian germain you will learn that most low turn accidents are due to people not knowing how to do low turns.... there is a way to turn quickly without plowing yourself into the ground... and there is a way to do flat turns to keep yourself from plowing into the ground... with lower jump numbers I would try to keep it to flat turns and then later on take an advanced canopy course with Brian Germain or Scott Miller, it will make your head swim for a week or two but then it really changes everything Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  25. yes I have been sneezed on in freefall, I have the video on my home computer... four way round head down, girl across from me sneezeddrove in as she sneezed and covered my face in snot...
