  1. is that when we are pulling down our sliders behind our necks??? if so it is so that the canopy will fly wider allowing it to fly better as it creats a more winglike shape to the parachute. since the slider is no longer constricting the lines at the top of the risers it allows the lines to spread otu more and let the canopy be wider and have better flying charachteristics. 2. Finally - Thanks Krisanne! Not raggin' on anyone in particular...raggin' on the entire skydiving community (I'm an equal-opportunity pisser-offer): God, it pisses me off when people get hurt because they refuse to PLF when needed....Oh, for the glorious "stand-up". PLF may not be the end-all to save-all, but bejeezus...it saves more than hurts by a long shot! man and they work for a lot of shit... I did a glorious PLF the other day with 1500 dollars worth of camera gear on my head in the middle of a swoop on my rears suddenly had a moving target enter my lane and I was like shit so I cranked it to the left on my rears and felt it start to stall and went oh shit....and plf'd a plf is an awesome way to save your ass Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  3. I jsut went back and learned from my mistakes and got coachign and listened when people screamed that I needed to finish my flare Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  4. at least it was a small dust devil looking action...I heard of a guy in eloy that got picked up and thrown over the packing area (a huge hanger) you got lucky with just the bruising... and no not much you can do but pray you will be alright (not religious in anyway) Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  5. hey the general consensus is that you should have the longest risers that make it so you can reach the slider. I myself fly 24" risers I have flown: 18's which resulted in a faster turn, you get out from under your canopy faster, and has a shorter recovery arc. 20's a little slower on the turn stil dives quickly and has a medium recovery arc. 24's have to wail on it to get out from under the canopy and a long recovery arc. basically the risers put you further or closer away from your canopy changing the radius of the turns that you do. so if you are further away, the circumference is larger so the turn is a wider turn... closer the circumference is tighter.... (a simple look at it there is mroe to all this) Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  6. yeah I jsut got the orange with royal ribs although I will look like a syracuse fan.... oh well Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  7. I really dislike all blue/grey/green canopies. They can be bloody hard to spot, especially on a gloomy day. I just ordered myself a nice bright orange canopy :-) Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  8. yeah I checked, it was a cae of blue parachute against the sky and the higher guy deciding to go even after he saw me, at least he was aware Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  9. and it almost happened to me last weekend... my buddy was well aware of what I was doing started his turn and then realized that we were about to collide and slowed his turn hit my burble but still made it out of it and landed.... I personally had no idea that it was happening... this is the problem with right hand 270s in a left hand pattern... you are turning back into the pattern blind... Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  10. I do regular high pulls... most of the time is canopy freeflying so we tend to use our toggle as soon as possible... but when we are done I like to stick my toggles back in the keeps and fly harness for a while may be a little hard for you with your wingloading but it sure works for me Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  11. stop flying lazy legs go to gym... ask a trainer what you can do to strengthen your rotator cuff (the exercises are relatively easy) and then again learn to fly your legs.... 12. Isn't the landing direction always into the wind? I see this happening at the Ranch sometimes, mainly with people who are beginning canopy swoopers. WTF? I'm going to do a downwind landing just because canopy swoopers agree to? actually we are talking about nill to extremely light wind... if we agree on a landing direction at the loading area and the wind shifts when it is light, it is not big deal. if the winds are strong and we choose a landing direction it is into the wind.... if people decide to land in whatever direction the choose after we have agreed we get what I have started to call the ranch landing direction because people would rather do whatever they want... we choose a landing direction so we dont get people faced off while landing which can lead to people getting hurt. and no I would rather land into the wind dont get me wrong... 13. I am in the dip right now cause Brian made me do new stuff.... ut I discovered I can land swooping purely on my rears cause I was so shocked I had planed ou under them that I just flew em till the end Oops Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  14. and I will teach you to pack for free if I am there ;-) cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  15. Music is always nice :-) hopefully you didnt construe that to be a vieled attack on you sir... it wasnt... just thoughts Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  16. haha mr scary camera flier...ready for me to pack your velo again Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  17. another fine examle of why I enjoy reading your posts.... fairly new but already feel your pain... people are complacent and unfortunately there are a lot of golfers in this sport... sometimes people think I am an asshole for screaming about people landing in the wrong direction of the agreed landing direction sometimes people think I offer a little too much advice... sometimes people think I pull a little high to avoid traffic. but I am in this to live and try to set a decent example... and (un)fortunately there are a lot of strong personalities in this sport...some who have an accurate percieved ability and sone who dont. and then there are the people who dont care about anyone else but themselves and will blatently tell you that they are going to do whatever the hell they want...those people usually get called assholes loudly and publically... Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  18. yeah I had soem student tell me the roll I did at the end of my swoop was pretty cool...of course it was at the end of a 300+ foot swoop with avoiding obstacles at the end on rears and wound up with my lines all caught up in my camera...but so what I lived and didnt hurt myself or anyone else... it was a very long 3 seconds or so and the PLF roll save me from injury...so I think that is hella cool... Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  19. plfs work even when swooping...trust me I had to do it twice last weekend while trying some new stuff Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  20. buy used then learn to pack...if you live around the new york area you can hit me up for some free packing coaching (I am a packer and never mind showing people the way that I do things for free I guess I am a bad prostitute) I bought my first rig when I had like like 30 jumps from my roommate who got me into jumping it lasted me about a year. I then swapped the sabre 170 that was in it out for a 179 safire ( Which I though would be larger) it turned otu to be around a 162 or something bizarre) so do your research and find soemthign that will be good for you if you have any questions ASK YOUR INSTRUCTORS.... Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  21. when I was two I jumped my first object years later after some hefty life issues I got dragged up to the ranch and found my new home Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  22. by choosing where I should be based on my downwind leg usually at around 800 feet I will be at the same place I will be at landing just appx 300 feet away from it try getting some dawn beer coachign from an more experienced jumper at your local DZ... having to correct too much in your final leg can cause a lot of traffic issues. I got like 20 hours of free coaching about accuracy from this guy at the ranch who also taught me how to get back from long spots etc... all it cost was standing around...not even the beer he came prepared with that. Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  23. myself and another person got into it with someone at the ranch this last weekend on a NO WIND DAY where we were trying to decide on a landing direction and this person stated I am going to tland into the wind no matter what anyone else is doing... I said plainly well it is the policy here that we choose a landing direction and stick to it.... to which she replied...well 20 years ago it was first man down sets the pattern..... arrrrgggghhhhhhhhh Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  24. see the way I look at it is its my groin muscle...I need to protect that area so I can get my freak on....do you want to risk that? dave Edite to fix bad typing http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
  25. I never had this problem... I usually saw it as which way is the carrot blowing away from the pole it is on.... And as far as tetrahedrons its a big freaking arrow cant f that up Cheers Dave http://www.skyjunky.com CSpenceFLY - I can't believe the number of people willing to bet their life on someone else doing the right thing.
