Roy, the older stuff that she is talking about is TSO-C. MOST not all modern reserve's are rated to TSO-D. Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman....

I dont use a same size main/reserve....a smaller wing doesn't mean high wing loading...I can have a 218 raven and put a ton of lead on and still have a high wing loading...not a good thing but still can. Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman....
-
you dont have to put them on backwards...as the regular pants have vents inthe back...the base ones only have forward vents. just more of them. Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman....

Help: Comfortable goggles for contact wearers
skymedic replied to Skream's topic in Gear and Rigging
I have been using Flex vision since I first started jumping(at sebastian of course) and have never had a problem wearing my contacts with flexvision. no problemo at all. Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman.... -
one other thing to add to your excelent advise is that modern reserve canopies are also made for modern skydiving...i.e. higher deployment speeds due to vertical flight(my favorite) Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman....

1.you can pack for yourself with out an A license...that is not required to pack. we have several packers at our DZ who aren't even 18...and they do a find job. you or someone supervised by a rigger are the only ones allowed to pack your rig. 2.obvious idea would be get your A. any reason your not? but you dont necesarily need to do that. I know DZ's that will look at your log book and then most likely request you do a check dive with an instructor/coach...I've know many people who have over 100+ jumps, jumping all over FL at different DZ's and still dont have there A license. 3. USPA BSR's for now state that you can only do RW stuff with a coach.BUT..the newly approved stuff says that a coach can "organize" the jump with other "experienced" jumpers. this is probably what you can find out there...once again depending on the DZ you are jumping at. hope this helps... Congrats dude...bout time!!! Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman....

Now on that you are partialy correct....two exact same measured canopies...one loaded more than the other. the heavier one will both have increased forward...and increased descent speed....but following the same glide path(roughly) as the lighter one.... Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman....
-
This is not true...a smaller canopy will fly faster at the same given wing loading...smaller lineset, less material drag..etc etc.... Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman....

Thing is I'm a big boy...so even my reserve is loaded at about 1.1 or so....those aren't issue's for me. plus I dont jump in high winds. I prefer no wind fast landings. more winds take's the fun out of flying my canopy.... Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman....
-
Not really scary, as long as QC is good...but that is where a couple manufacturers slip sometimes. and I'd be surprised if all those older ladies that I saw sewing away at sunpath the last time I was there were 'master' riggers.. Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman....

Here is a pic of my last one...it's a W21...made for a 218-m reserve..and a safire 189(really a 173)...fun rig...love it!!! my new rig looks just about the same and it is a a W21-1..I am the only person inthe world with a 21-1. as I didn't want to downsize to a smaller reserve, Henri cut me a custom pattern for the main container and I was able to keep the big reserve and I will be able to go down to a 135 in this container comfortably.... WINGS ROCKS!!!!! oh yeah...I got mine in about 2 weeks or so...

Kris....my wings I had this year was different than last years wings...my new one is sized for a 149 Xfire2...and it still looks clean. love my wings!!!!

Yes I have met him personaly....his GF on the other hand was very sweet....he just wasn't...maybe he had a bad day or something... Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman....

one stripe down the middle makes pro packing/psycho packing way easy. but sounds like you are side packing? I'm not sure how this will affect you....other than to rememnber to count your cells as you flake. marc

Doesn't my GF kick ass...she not only has just started teaching again...but is learning how to be a mom to my 9 yr old daughter who just moved in with us full time....God I love this woman!!!!! marc

The big thing about psycho packing is also to make sure you get a leader on your bridal...I have a 12" bridal extension so I dont have to pull the attachment point out at all. my biggest issue with off heading openins now is cause my canopy snivels and snivels and snivels...thanks to HOOK...I also noticed that over time my pack jobs have been ALOT more symetrical than they ever have when I tryed to pro pack. but at first...as andy has noted I did tend to have a slightly asymetrical pack job...mostly due to how I was lying the canopy on the floor during the 180 flip... I was taught how to psycho pack...was never taught pro packing, side or flat packing...at the time Icarus was based out of Sebastian. and one of the guys at the DZ taught me how to pack this way. made packing that 280 navigator ALOT easier... I am 265-270 exit weight...and have been since I started jumping...you will be just fine. find your self a big canopy to learn on and you wont have any worries.... marc
