  2. I jumped out of a yellow/orange beaver in the mid to late 70's at Seneca Falls NY.. for a while there was a blue/black beaver that operated there owned by Howie martin.. then a guy from the syracuse Ny area, had this yellow one.....his name was bobby Grandinetti... they jumped at a place called central square,,, near Syracuse... some of those folks did go south each winter... NOT sure if this is the same plane though... we were in Bobby's plane on the occasion of John King's ( Kinger from Finger lakes) 1000th jump..... and at 3 grand the radial engine poured oil,,, all over the windshield and fuselage.. we had to get out low..... . . . . Only time I EVER had to leave a plane due to aircraft emergency... Many of the RW lovers on that load STILL wanted to "try the 10 way"...... for kinger!!!!!!!!!! hahaha cooler heads prevailed, all jumpers and the plane landed safely.. jimmy hardcore fan of,,, " Howie's Hummers".....

Christmas day, My sister Hosted, and served appetizers and hors dourves, cheeses and chips, nuts and candy, Roasted prime rib, potatos, green beans, salad, wines and desserts... Then over to a Cousins Home for dessert. Between what They had prepared and what we all brought, there had to be over a dozen cakes, Pies, Parfaits, ( or as i learned in this thread, "trifles",
  4. great great book..... can't remember the name of the Author, but he is/was a former guide for big game hunters. the chapters of his book are broken down by "animal'. and he writes very descriptively about the 8 or 9 big animals which can and WILL kill you, if given the chance...... further reinforces MY belief that Man, is Not the highest order of animal on the planet... we may be the 'smartest', by OUR interpretation, but that's just an arrogant position to take... good read....fast paced, helps to grow the readers' respect for Hippos, cape buffalos, elephants, lions, etc... the S F zoo incident IS a sad one, for all parties involved... jmy
  5. any chance you could post a picture of what the camera itself, looks like...?? either on the helmet, or off..... or else a link to manufacturers' data??? what sort of cost??? for this item??? thanks jimmy

  7. Peace On Earth I KNOW it's a longshot.... BUT Peace on Earth jmy
  8. first concept to grasp.... is that most tape measures, rulers yardsticks etc. are marked in SIXTEENTHS....... half of one , then half of a half , then half of a quarter, then half of an eighth... and there you go... you have 16ths.... As one of 4 brothers, all close in age, and all the sons of a builder, we were driving nails, operating saws, and measuring to the 16th...BEFORE we were.... well ,,,, 16 !!!!!
  9. it IS a thought provoking subject... and as time marches on, thoughts change The early psychologists merely scratched the surface.... made a determination and tossed a label at it... death wish..... Now as "extreme sports" of all kinds have grown...and we learn about them and about their enthusiasts we find there is not any such wish.. Hell. we don't even want to injure ourselves... Understanding and accepting Risk, might be all it is... Everyones level for that varies and what is frightening to one person can be exciting to another... Most participants in such sports , ARE extremists.... extremely Careful... extremely thoughtful, extremely thorough.....
  10. it the loadstar Sweet's???..... from Stormville NY???
  11. well , in the beginning I didn't HAVE a choice... started with a 28" 7 TU.. maybe a dozen Jumps went to a 28 foot LoPo,, maybe a couple of dozen more.. 2 Jumps on a PC.... not real impressed over 1000 jumps on a French Papillon Loved It !!>>) One jump on a strato star !!.. ( wow, it was scarey) ) ( never jumped a 5 cell again ) Bought a used strato cloud,, ( heavy weight ) and put 400 + jumps, on it... Bought a rig with a Para foil 252 light...(Made maybe 100 jumps with it, including my Night SCR, ) sold it for a little more than i paid for it. Used Light weight Cloud,,, maybe 200 jumps.. Then Bought my first and ONLY brand new main... a new RW Challenger ( from New Eng. Parachute Co.
  12. .. actually the question about the weight of a HOUSE,, is an interesting one.. the pic. looks like a modern version of a Covered Bridge... j
  13. agreed... the only Good Glitter is Snow Globe Glitter..... we loooove snow globes..... i've often wondered,,, how the hell do they seal that globe??? with all the liquid,,, and those trinkets, or figures etc... in there??? and.. how do they do it without leaving some sort of air bubble??? what sucks about Christmas??? any music other than genuine old time christmas carols,,,Silent night, Oh Come all ye faithful, Little drummer boy.. etc Sales at stores,,, which double the retail price first,,,, then discount it by 20 %... the MOBS of people who respond to such sales.. The inability to find parking close by to stores, Store parking lots, , not only full of cars, but full of snow and slush, as well.... NEVER having enough $$$$$$ to buy the things we'd LOVE to get for those important people in our lives,,,, spending alll we have to get something for someone, and then have them shrug their shoulders, and toss it aside,,, shortly after opening the gift.... people who worry about "what are they getting",, instead of "what are they Giving"... and finally...... idiots, who worry about How a snow globe is made....rather than being able to JUST enjoy it !!!!! Buon Natale jmy
  14. a child.... having a child..... happens all too frequently... and announced right around the time that we honor what is apparently the last... Blessed Virgin,,,, Mary........( or so the story goes ) .... announced through OK magazine.....??? wtf??? WELL .. It's NOT Ok..... IMHO so then, is her BF over 18????? is the little girl only 16???? I thought there are statutes in place against That... And i thought there are lots and lots of "over 18's" , male and female, who face criminal charges for engaging in such " connubial" activities. with a person who they know is underaged... very sad. jmy
  15. .... 'i know a little ' ... hahaha good one...
  16. 7 out of ten mostly from guessing!!!!
  17. post # 54 in this thread , is a long and extensive , "self- defense", which you composed... it concludes... " p.s. I'll always be a dropzone bum"..... .... you should set your sights waaaay higher than that... (edited to delete a longer treatise which upon reflection,,, wasn't necessary Or appropriate) ( thought it was an opinion,,, but it came accross to at least one,,, to be a rant...) ( wasn't my intention) jmy a3914 d12122
  18. right ,,, i follow that... it's surprising that so few here, have any confidence in this idea..... It seems that wingsuiting has been evolving,, and is heading to a point where one may safely be landed... Couple that with the BASE experiences of Mr Corliss, and you have a good candidate to try it. Skydiving wingsuiters who have never flown in the same close proxity to Earth,, as do Base suiters... might likely be 'freaked out' by that very nearness to solid objects, that they wouldn't be a good choice...Corliss on the other hand seems 'within himself' in that situation... Plainly put,,, this is a technical thing.... i think it's all about slope, and distance, and run-out, and momentum arrest.... etc... When he matches the angle of the runway, and can 'touch down to it', then the tough stuff begins,,, I'd guess he had to bleed off his velocity, in a very controlled way.. it seems that the surface of the runway will be KEY... will it be thousands of 10 or 12 foot long 2" diameter rollers???? laid close to one another, and Perpendicular to the length of the 'runway' ? ( much like material handling roller runways ) Will the surface, consist of some specialty material to slooowly de-accelerate him ?,,,,maybe custom length, 'astro-turf fibers', or soft rubber fingers,,,, which can be 'gripped' with fingers or toes, much the same way that a child, lying prone on a snow sled, can 'dig in',,,, as needed..or maybe a runway surface that sloughs off, as he barrels along on it,,,, giving way as needed, but absorbing energy in doing so.....a controlled arrest, based on the composition and density of that surface itself... remember,,, the landing will be accomplished onto his chest and belly,, and I'd guess, might finish off with something of a 'track' position... in which case, the hands and feet Could be used to "grab " the runway,,,,eventually burning off all the momentum , which will require a pretty long, run out... It will take lots of finesse, good depth perception and great skills to get into the point near the entry end of the runway, where the plan can continue... it will be interesting to see how this goes... jmy
  19. whoa..... was he OK??? were You??? older caddy. or new???, since I'm hoping that it has an airbag..... did it go off?.... was there also one for You??? It sounds like you got the "shake".. did you also get Fries with that??? jt
  20. ...and Nu -CLE- ar is NOt pronounced Nu -Q- Lar... despite what the VERY Pres. of the USA says.... I also notice some pronunciation differences, based on geography... some parts of the country say. PO -Leeece. some say Pllllleese some say IN shurence some say in SURE ance and some say vee ick el . some say VE Hickle. what's with that??
  21. strange??? well you MUST consider the source( s ) .... hahaha
  22. I've been told i have nice handles - and i'm not an airplane...though technically i guess you could ride me... wasn't there something there about him and 12 of his friends.... WHAT friends????? There ain't No friends...... For such an opportunity it would just be ME
  23. hmmmphhh lucky YOU..... we should ALL be so fortunate..... what gives you the idea that this approach is even remotely sensible??? no offense... but Your naive' enthusiasm seems matched only by your 'friends' misguided willingness to bankroll you..... hell,,, tell him to buy a turbine, and rent it to OUR club... He'll be waaay ahead of the game...(at least then,,,, there will be some "RETURN on Investment"..) ( a KEY aspect to any business plan) I'm not sure how financing YOUR desire to be a cameraman, would benefit this friend???? You say he notices skydiving footage, here and there..... well sadly THOSE slots are full... and are being capably handled by others, who have invested of Themselves for years and years... Trust me there is only self satisfaction, and a shelf load of tapes along with a few dozen really GOOD images,,, that MIGHT come from a decade of DEDICATION to this field.....Many Many skydiving camera people Hold REAL jobs,,, despite a devotion to this skill which far outshines your borderline interest in it..( as I quote You,,,," i have gone uncurrent numerous times due to my unwillingness to spend everything i have on, well, anything" ) and so then,, you, with 35 jumps, and a blank check, you come along and are ready for some great career... well i admire your willingless to dream....and applaud you for having found a "piggybank" willing to back you..... But I do resent the implication that it is SO simple.... Business plan????? skydive for a couple of years, then skydive some more. then buy thoudands of dollars of camera and editing gear,,, THEN "just go out and capture Top of the Line footage each time you exit a plane"... hollywood will be knocking down your door.......... only drawback...... There is a line.... and it's a long line, and some have been standing in it for decades,,, and are financing it Themselves... BUT hey !!! you'll do just fine.... don't give up the day job... convince your pal to buy an airplane. .. now before i get flamed for being a jerk and stepping on your dreams...I'll admit to five things... 1. i'm a jealous asshole 2. i speak for LOTS of hardworking SELF made video people here, who are thinking the same as I am 3. i'm a jealous asshole.... 4. If it was EASY , everybody could do it.... 5. if it was hugely Profitable,,( enough to support you and your investor ) everybody WOULD do it... just enjoy skydiving........isn't THAT enough??? peace jt
