i don't want him to go down as anything............. i just want him to go away... i ( and Millions of others,,, ) NEVER voted for him.... i thought he was a buffoon when he was the Gov. of Texas.....he still is... jt

as to the when..... must be mid to late 1960's... did she jump style and accuracy??? j

i don't think the Antonov AN-2 is considered an "experimental aircraft"..... i sometimes see news reports about E A where sadly, something not good has happened...as can be the case with anything built in the owners garage or basement... the learning curve can be huge...structural issues, engine problems, etc...can all rear their ugly head.... i'll defer to the judgement of others, in this matter... wouldn't wanna jump out of it unless it's legal and proven as a jumpship... jt

never heard of it,,,,, so never jumped out of it... interesting website, and interesting concept... buy ALL the parts,,,, then put it together??? even so, unless i'm missing something,,, 100 grand for the airframe kit, and another 120 grand or so,,, for the turbine,,, seems preety reasonable... IF you have the shop, the tools, and the personnel to assemble it... read through the various pages of the website,,, to learn what is and what isn't included... Made in the USA,,, but the engine is Czech.??? 2000 feet / minute without pushing it, sounds nice, and 5000 feet/minute max...... sure sounds excting for a dz,, even if one selects a model which only carries 5 or 6 jumpers at a time ... ( usefull load 1300 lbs) lots more feedback needed,,,,, what are the insurance details like????? does it have a usable door for exit??? any idea about what the planes intended purpose might be??? thanks for the link... jimmytavino

i purchased a vhs tape ....years ago... called 10 Spot.... i got it from Roger. I think Bob Franzese was involved in it's production...copyright 1986 a bunch of good, and interesting shorts... including a 100 way, outta DC3's, and some other good ground footage... also some early "sit-flying" or as Roger and Carl called it, "freak flying".... still have that tape somewhere... this thread has reminded me to dig it out and enjoy it once again... thanx chuckakers for the link to the site, and the song... jmy

it's great to have many talents, and to explore all of them, to the fullest... the success is in having given the drumming a chance.....maybe not now, but maybe in the future... as long as you are happy where you ARE, at any given moment........ Those who share your love of skydiving must be very pleased to have you back at Skydive City... have fun stay safe. jimmytavino

well speaking of Redheads... i scanned the whole list and unless i missed it, Lucille Ball wasn't among those named..... She and the cast of her old B & W TV show sure did some funny and clever comedy way back then..... surprising she's not listed... SNL .... "Fred Garvin"...( male prostitute) always cracked me up and Martin Short is long on talent... lots of funny stuff over the years, though it could have been the frame of mind of the viewers which added the extra zip to those sketches..... many many good comics..... M Python....very well received by my brothers and me back when it aired on TV during the summer evenings... Unique Brit humor... speaking of which,,!!! where is Benny Hill.... ?? THAT show was Funny !! and a real hoot.... hahahaha.. busty babes, lecherous old men,,, real good use of effects and visual gags.... hahahah.. I hear the B H song playing in my head, right now !!! some of those named are new to me so i'll check 'em out later... thanks for the list .... laughter is theraputic jmy ps nice avatar sunshine

when the price of jet A skyrockets, jumpers at turbine dzs tend to grit their teeth, shrug it off and pay the price..... BUT airline passengers do the opposite, they complain, and point the finger at the airline industry if they can't fly round trip coast to coast for less than 500 bucks..... i have felt for years that the flying public has been spoiled....They take airline travel as a granted,,,, and have always expected More for less... the truth is, that the convenience of getting from point A to point B at 400 + MPH ought to cost us thousands, not hundreds....but nobody wants to hear that... Multi million dollar aircraft, Hundreds of planes within an airlines' inventory.... Airport fees, staff expenses, pilot and steward costs,,, Maintenance regulations and safety updates.... not to mention CEO salaries all these things have squeezed the industry to the choking point..... i don't fly very much, but sure,,, when i do, i wish it were simple, and efficient, and less costly.... but the reality of it , in todays economy, is that air travel is becoming less and less feasible.... people want to drop a credit card on the counter, and then be pampered and cared for throughout their journey... No peanuts???, No 3 course meal??? Cancel a flight????? ....and they are like the villagers going after the Frankenstein Monster... Bitching at staff, complaining to those workers at the gates... who have little to say in the matter, and sometimes going way overboard with demands, and theatrics.... Wanna fly from here to there? with a snap of your fingers??????,, better have some real coin, so that you can afford your own damn aircraft... me??? I guess i'll limit my travel to other modes of transportation... i wouldn't want to work in the airline industry, for any rate of money ,, especially if paychecks are gonna start bouncing..... Funny that in one of the most technologically advanced countries in the world, our general aviation planes sit idle..... while our military jets, reconnaissance drones, rotary wing aircraft and the entire military complex which supports them,,,,, just keeps burning gallon after gallon after gallon, like it's nobodies business.... and please don't even get me started about the ground vehicles which the govt. uses for warring....., which get what???? 3 or 4 mpg....... somebody ought to be ashamed of themselves..... rant over jmy

well way before the 'rating' was even available i often found myself jumping with new to intermediate level jumpers and offering 'to lay a base' for them, and let them dock and then backslide and let them dock again, etc etc paying my own lift ticket all the while, and asking nothing in return,,,,, and THEN 20 years later USPA names it a "coach" rating..... and so I attend and complete all requirements to become legally "qualified" to do something that I had proven myself capable of, decades ago..... and then i jam a shoulder, and "get layed off" for a year or so, and come to find out that if I don't make "X " number of coach jumps a year,,,,, my rating has lapsed..... so I guess Now I have been deemed no longer capable of coaching someone,,, not based on my abilities or lack thereof, but on a stipulated number of times, that i need to prove my worth, each year.... i've hesitated to bring this up, at our club, but when you have a dz with 8 or 10 coaches, and most of them do NOT do more than a dozen or so coach jumps a season,,,and many do UNDER 10 a season, doesn't that mean that most of these coach ratings have been nullified???? Are we on the honor system ?? in that regard , or do people simply ignore the "currency" requirement...? and continue to coach??, as I did for years before i was "rated"....?? I admit that i haven't checked recently to see that actual # of coach jumps one must DO, to stay current.... can anyone tell me what that # currently IS.????my guess would be in the range of 20 or so.... thanks... signed "sure I'll jump with ya' " jimmy...

Why I jumped a whole Season with a BASE rig from 13K ft...
jimmytavino replied to badlock's topic in Gear and Rigging
it's a sure bet that time spent watching your gear being assembled and/or repacked is of value... great thing about this sport is that there is always something new , we can learn... as to the O P ... good thing your main deployments all went well... HOW MANY of them, were Your own personal pack jobs, and how many of them were packjobs by others... i.e. "paid for" pack jobs...????? It can be said that many jumpers avail themselves of pack jobs by others, out of convenience, or they are too busy to pack, or they have 2 rigs, or they are 'lazy', or they are staff... and in that regard, a crew of full time packers, works well for busy DZs. but for the most part, one should learn ,know, and utilize the skill of packing often and frequently, and Especially, during their novice and intermediate stages of growth... Instead lots of 'newtimers' pack just enough, in their training,,, often with the help of others, who wind up doing most of the tough stuff...( anybody can stow lines.), to complete TLOs or fill a proficiency card... we should guard against folks at this stage of their careers, simply crossing over to a "pay for your pack job" mentality.... regardless of the reason.... I 've always loved, packing... especially in the time of cheapos, and rounds,, I can flake a cheapo, like nobody's business... did many many student rigs early on. and most always pack my own mains... I also activate my reserve handle at the time i hand my rig over to my rigger, and while not removing the canopy from the d bag, take a visual look at things... I carry a clean plastic bag with me, remove the main at the rings, and the gear to goes to the loft... i've had the good fortune to have capable, qualified careful riggers available to me . A couple have packed reserves which i had to deploy, and when I did, my faith in them was reinforced...So now I don't have to watch over their shoulder. trust is a solid part of the package. However if you're talking about new gear, a first rig, or an intermediate level skydiver, then by all means,,,, get interested..... -
What would you ask GEN Petraeus or Amb Crocker?
jimmytavino replied to nerdgirl's topic in Speakers Corner
because he is being bombarded with questions, many of which have no easy answer, i'd ask him one, which would be simple to accept.... "General, how about coming over to the house for dinner one night, at the home of an appreciative, saddened, and sympathetic American Family....??? No shop talk, no politics,,,, No Iraq Just the basics... antipasto, lasagna or mannicotti, veal parmaggiani, roasted chicken, potatoes, vegetables, salad, dessert..... and a chance to unwind from a place where 'you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't....' reminds me of a song from decades ago... " ... and we're ankle-deep knee-deep waist-deep chest-deep in the Big Muddy..... and the Big Fool says to Push On" jmy. "blindly following BAD leadership is NOT a sign of patriotism"... seen recently on a bumper sticker -
I miss skydiving - advice for returning jumper
jimmytavino replied to sandi's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
well skydiving is fun, so sure you can miss it... but enjoying the first 4 years of your daughters life, could be even more fun...and you're a loving Mom, to have set aside your interests, As have many many a Parent who enjoys jumping,,, like tbrown for instance.... ( It took me over 12 years to fill up a 150 jump log book, back in the years when my kids were little...) however , now as life moves on, maybe it's mom's time to re-visit jumping out of airplanes... -
well if nothing else this thread does illustrate that we can, and will go over the same stuff,,,, ad infinitum.....DSE thy name is "patience" PWScott, thy name is "tenacity"... i posted earlier, only cause you asked about 'samsung'. and that alone, had me wondering about your experience and credibility...... i mean samsung?? for God's sake??? so,,, when i check back to this thread,,, i see that points made by DSE and PharmerPhil are but a window of opportunity for YOU to refute, argue, disagree and otherwise reject..... yet the kind moderator here, continues with the respectful back and forth, the willingness to share his knowledge, as did others,,, still 20 of the 40 posts are by PWScottIV, and mose seem agumentative..... volume doesn't always equate to substance, and though you declare your knowledge in many other "sports and activities" that may not relate to skydiving.... wanna know ONE good thing to work on, if you'd like to succeed in this sport?????? humility........... it goes a long way... so when you do hit that "magic 200" and you do strap that samsung camera on your head, i wish you the best..... now can we let this thread , finish??? peace. jimmy a3914 d12122

What features do you want when buying a camcorder?
jimmytavino replied to sky-pimp's topic in Photography and Video
durable... reliable... under 750USD i used a few sony camcorders which had good input capability and bypass... the trv series of mini dv..... ...So bypass, for the purposes of updating real old jumping footage,,, i e vhs tapes... these sony models allowed me to input via the jacks from a player deck and then record onto the mini dv tape and even output simultaneously via firewire to the computer... It let me record old VHS tapes ( GASP!!!!,,,,,) direct onto dvd via the computer. i'm a believer in the lanc benefit, and also liked the old button switches, both for record mode and in playback editing mode.. real easy to use and to get to... oh well.... touch screen and /or remotes seems the way of today.. hmmm other "wishes" ?? -
send me some of it. I jumped old B 4's and pioneer 3 pins, and mini system, stylemaster. but lost track,, Or else wore OUT most of it. sold some.. But i have kept a few things, including a racer, an old heavy weight Para Plane and a couple of trusty main and reserve canopies...a bunch of jumpsuits... My dear wife of 27 years is always saying, "When are you gonna throw away all that stuff " ?? hahaha.. I keep it in a dry cool place, and it's actually pretty organized... So now i'm thinking it would really get her excited,

Who says Iraq was never a danger to the US
jimmytavino replied to skymiles's topic in Speakers Corner
well stepping blindly into quicksand is pretty dangerous too... and stupid... there was this 'hornets nest' of sorts, over there. we saw it , we were monitoring it, and it had Little to do with Bin laden or Nine-Eleven... so what did we do??? we ran over there and started banging on that nest, with a big stick.... using our high tech weaponry to fire missles and rockets at all sorts of targets, military AND civilian..... and basically just pissed off all the hornets, who were quietly staying IN their nest... So then, out buzzed all these angry hornets....( you'd be angry too, if you saw everything around you blown to smithereens ) .. THEY all start attacking our soldiers, and all the coalition forces... We were NOt greeted as liberators, but as usurpers, and foreign war mongers...who totally destroyed the infra structure, and way of life , of all those poor souls.. whose country was a mess, BEFORE we ever got there.... so now there are guerilla ( sp? ) attacks... IED's, hatred and resentment towards we Invaders........ only reason there are not twice the deaths attributable to the war, is the better medical and evacuation techniques in place, which gets seriously wounded OUTTA there, fast, and efficiently.... How many More have died???? AT Ramstein Air Force base???? how many have been saved, but with loss of limb (s) ,, and loss of soul??? If you think that P T S S ... was bad before... ( Korea, V.Nam ) .. just wait til wee see the full ramifications of THIS mess. on the minds and hearts of those who DO return...with torn up bodies, and psyches.... Iraq never was a danger... til WE went in there and made it so... IMHO jmy
