you WILL sense something while making your first few jumps... ONLY let's not call it nerves... let's NOT call it fear. let's call it EXCITEMENT.. let's call it HIGH ENERGY... especially if you are doing a tandem.... You'll have a well experienced Skydiver going along with you.... Concentrate on adhering to the instructions and doing what's required of YOU.... i e arch,,, head back,,,hips forward... and you'll be grinning like crazy,, by the time you land...

many jumpers also like to be unofficial safety monitors, when it comes to thier friends and the new students at their DZ. the key is Tact And Discretion... It's important IMHO to be sure Not to cast any negative light on anyone,, especially an Instructor... So loudly commenting about gear which may be out of synch, or not quite as we would like, needs to be done in a quiet and non elaborate way... NO TM wants to be chastised in front of their student, and NO experienced jumper should be OVER critical , when noticing another's lapse. Keep it low key. I have occasionally sidled up to a TM, and mentioned, " that drogue is sticking out More than necessary",,, or "can I better stow your main closing flap"? ... and their student is kept completely unaware.. ( the student does NOT need to be questioning the thoroughness of the instructors pre jump preparation, as they are heading to the plane.. right????) In the plane, a quiet comment can help someone, re their gear, withour harming their credibility. like many things,, in life, it's all about the delivery, and not just about the message.. make all such comments, in a cool and controlled way,, and Not with some Loud, or nervous, comment.. keep your eyes open pre-boarding, during the climb and prior to exit... and hope that others are doing the same for you... Praise in public, Criticize in private... jmy

fact is... alot of it is about the Brains, behind the pretty faces.... "Smarts", is what earns one the right to sit in those seats..... pilots can be of all sizes , shapes and sexes... the hotness here, is simply a bonus !! Saw a C5 close up during an airshow.. the front was open, the back was open, and we were able to walk right through it... it is Like a warehouse!! ..... that can FLY..

jumping next to a tandem jumper
jimmytavino replied to beacbmsim1's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
.... "I recently got my drivers' license, and i'd like to enter the Indy 500".. " do you think that would be OK" ? hahahaha same thing here, friend... ... the last thing a TM and camera person NEEDS,,, is a 3rd party geeker...when that person is new to the sport... Much different many years down the road... I believe that most tandem manufacturers require a rating ( Tandem AFF etc, ) a minimum of 500 jumps, or that an accompanying jumper be a well experienced camera flyer,, in order to skydive with a tandem. and even THEN,,, the dive takes on a whole different complexity... A thorough dirt dive is in order,,, including discussion of where to BE and where NOT to be... what to do, and when to do it,,, staying well within the view of the TM and any outside camera person.... and even then,,, Chances are that the Student could be so over loaded,, that when asked ,, did you see me?? they respond... " No were you IN the air with us"???? -
whoa... Bro' you know i love ya' and I'll skydive with you anytime... but this statement is reckless, at best... AND inflammatory at worst..... WHy wouldn't there be another boogie there??? we have worked successfully with the City of batavia, and with Genesee county, since the early 80's...... Some ONE person,,, ( who was likely just trying to cover his own ass) had a "knee-jerk' reaction, when told of the loss of a jumper,,, and without ANY consultation, any request from our duly designated rep. for accurate information,,,, or ANY input from those knowledgeable in the subject of skydiving.... this bureaucrat unilaterally DICTATED... 'the boogie is over"..... well it WASN'T over was it??? Fact is , our persistance prevailed and so now we need to be cool and quiet and keep our fingers crossed.. This is a federally funded PUBLIC airport.... if a pilot misjudges a landing, and totals his plane and himself... does that mean the airport should be Closed to ALL pilots??? of course not... Lets wait and see, we have Fine and knowledgeable skydivers who voluntarily serve as liason, between the club and the airport management... we shall keep our fingers crossed, and hope for common sense to prevail.. and THAT there will continue to be,,, the batavia boogie... fly safe, skydive safe. see ya' at the dz. jmy

when we were kids,, in grade school we were allowed to play softball at lunchtime during recess..... we had at the time two classes for each grade level so that the one 6th grade would play the other 6th grade, and the one 8 th grade, would play the other 8th grade etc.. etc. well one day a guy in my class says to Joey E. who was our self - appointed captain,,, "joey,,, how come when it's our turn to play ball,,, you only pick certain players, and others don't get chosen......??? Joeys' reply???... 6 th grade .. mind you !!!
